Ok, so I broke down and got the RL2500, mostly because I was able to get 2 of them for a really good deal. Coming from my A620, I was expecting some differences, based on the different companies and various things I had heard around here. Well, I have used the 2500 for a few days now, and here are my thoughts.
Not as impressed with the Sanyo. Flame all you want, the only thing that has impressed me about this phone is its weight. It feels almost fake, like a display model. Maybe its because I am used to a heavier phone with my Samsungs, but this is a bit too light for me.
The UI sucks. It is entirely too many things to push to get where I want/need to go. Samsung wins on this issue hands down IMO.
The speaker is a nice touch. Its pretty clear, as long as you remember to let the other person finish talking before you start.
The address book. Let me try to explain this as best I can. On a Samsung, any call that comes in, that is *not* in your phonebook is considered a call with out caller id. These calls can be assigned a separate ringer from those that are in your phone book (which are considered calls with caller id). Sanyo determines a call that shows ‘private’ as a call with no caller id (like a regular telco) and is given a separate ringer from any other call you may receive. I like the Samsung way better. (hope I explained this in a non-confusing way)
Last numbers called. I really liked that I could press ‘talk’ on my 620 and scroll through the last 10 calls I made. Sanyo does not offer this feature.
The external screen. I wish it showed the date along with the time, versus the time only.
Charging. It would be nice if the light came on to let me know the phone was charging. Like red for charging and green for done.
Sound quality. I cannot tell the difference.
The key lock feature. Lets just say its enough to drive you crazy trying to figure out the right combination.
The answering machine feature. I tried it out last night, but I couldn’t figure out how to answer the call while the flip was closed. However it was a cool feature, that could come in handy while at work.
Overall, the RL2500 is a really nice phone. RL is a cool feature, assuming everyone you talk to has Sprint, and a RL phone, and the RL service. It was a pleasant change from my Samsung, but I am not sure that I will keep the phone activated after my 2 month free trial of RL is up.
