What software version do you guys have on the VM 4500? This should be under phone info.

I need to get its device rdf some sprint so i can make more sense of its native video file format. Its not 3gpp or the quicktime we see in videomailings. :(

Sweet :) Got the software version, so i was able to dig up the hardware profile and determine a little more on what it expected for video content.

http://device.sprintpcs.com/Sanyo/SCP5500/1008SP.rdf

The Sanyo MM player 1.0 expects an MPEG4 file, 128x96, 15 frames per second, QCELP audio encoding, at a 64kbps data rate.

The xml doc descriptions for streaming abilities (both receiving and transmitting) are blank, so no native streaming video players in the near future at least. Its still MIDP 1.0... :(

The interesting part is, there are no mime types described for this streaming video content. Maybe it just wants an mpeg mime or a GCD with an mpeg linked inside. *shrug*

The phone does boast to support MO-SMS, Videomail and Picturemail support. The Sanyo 8100 profile does not say this for picture mail -- maybe web-based picturemail's days are numbered?

I got mine yesterday around 3:30pm... Ive been using it non-stop pretty much, (switched from an 8100) And I can say its WELL worth the money... The phone is great, I think the ringers sound a lot better, andits just plain cool.

BTW, Im in Richmond VA. I work a Radio Shack... so if anyone wants to see it, stop by Chesterfield Towne Center. Look for the guy with the pony tail. :)

To sum up, its like I tell all my customers... You CANT go wrong with a Sanyo...

So has anyone succesully sent a video NOT taken w/ 5500 to the 5500?

Last week I left my 5300 on top of my car and drove off, by the time I went back to get it, it was run over by another car. Needless to say, I needed a new phone (good timing hahaha).
I just picked up the 5500 and must say that I love the speaker phone. I will use the camera every once in a while, it is nice to have every now and then.
Anyway, last week a rep at one of the Sprint stores told me I HAD to hook up Ready Link if I bought a 5500. When I actually bought it today they did not make me hook it up. I guesss I will once more people have it, but right now it is not worth the extra $. I have the $10 unlimited vision plan now and have heard a number of different things on how much it would cost to add Ready Link. I thought it would be an extra $10 a month, but one rep told me it would be $5 and another said $15. Does anyone know for sure?

Interestingly enough if you look at the 8100, 5300, 5500, and 7200 they all have the same processor. I guess this "technically" means they are more than capable of running RL. (This is in response to a post by I don't remember who who said that the processors were different.)

I wasn't around when this thread started, but it's funny to see how many people were going nuts about this phone back in November and then how many of them have already switched.

man i can't wait until the MM 5600 is finally released and a thread like this one is started... the 5500 was out for less than half an hour when this thread got started, and the next day is when SU hit a record for number of users on at the same time. that was a golden age of sprintusers.
