Sprint Speaks on Upcoming SMS

Reported to be here in the 'coming weeks' will be a new handset-based messaging system allowing all upcoming phones to compose and receive short messaging service (SMS) messages without the use of a WAP browser. "The carrier’s new Nokia Corp. phone, its Treo 600 device and the new walkie-talkie Sanyo Corp. handsets will support the service once it is officially launched. So when it says new walkie talki style handsets, do we think that means the VM 4500 only since its not out yet, or is there going to be some sort of software/firmware upgrade for the RL2500 and RL2000 also?

MY QUESTION IS WHETHER SOME OF THE "NEWER-OLDER PHONES" [PART. THE 8100] WILL RECEIVE SOFTWARE UPDATES THAT ALLOW THE NEW TEXT FUNCTIONALITY. THIS PHONE IS REALLY ON THE CUSP OF THE "NEW" SANYO PHONES AS OPPOSED TO THE OLDER ONES AND IT SEEMS LIKE SOMEWHAT OF A RIP IF THEY SAY NO GO TO THAT MODEL.

all the RL phones have the software for it now but there is no system support that's coming in Jan if looks like

When is this going to happen? I went to my sprint store and they didnt even know about it. It is about time they got normal text messaging. Using the WAP is so annoying and slow.

i agree with you phone junkie. they should have a software update available for the 8100 and 5300 since they are fairly new Sanyo Phones
