how is wimax service?? speed?

hi everyone im hard of hearing i need to know how is clear (wimax) service im thinking buying so how fast is it and download?was is worth it or no, how speed is good or no for up to speed and upload.

I live in the northern suberbs of Atlanta and have tried the U300 between there and downtown and have to say that the speeds are WAY overhyped... in the heart of downtown the best I was able to do was 4mbps.... I've posted elsewhere on the site.

I live in Austin, Texas and on average I get around 6 mbps down with my home modem and around 10 mbps with the usb. I am happy with the service and you can't beat the price. I have seen a few people knock Clear on the forums but my experience has been great. My best advice is to have a rep come to your house and test out the performance.

Overall though, it's much better than my dsl that Clear replaced. It's also a cool trick when I tell people that my work truck is a "wifi hot spot". In the afternoon you can find contractors sitting around my truck. They are all regularly impressed by the speed; especially when we are on a job site with no other source of access.

hmmmm.... well from Suwanee to GA Tech I have NEVER gotten speeds that high...typically around 3mbps and I'm thinking the most at 4mbps... Maybe there's something wrong with my U300?

Just installed Clear house modem today. Nearest tower is 0.25 miles N NW of my house. I get between 3-5 bars. Pretty consistent download of 2.9-3.75 upload is between 0.6 and 0.8. Pings range from 55 to 175 depending on the speedtest server I choose. Slightly underwhelmed to be honest, but I only played for it a whole 5 minutes before leaving the house.

Currently have it in a room on the SE side of the house so that may have something to do with it. Will have to try moving it around to see if I can get better speeds elsewhere.

I don't want to say it but I almost fully agree with Tech on this post.

Clear for some reason is limiting their 4G while Sprint is seeming to allow full access as long as your device can handle it lol.

I have a U300 that I can swap and use on either of the two 4G networks (which crazily are both one in the same) and when in the exact same spot will pull down 9 - 11 Mb with Sprint while pulling in 3 - 8 with Clear. And I have the unlimited Clear pack which should not be capped, except for uploads.

But from time to time Clear does do right by me and you can't beat their prices with a stick. I pay $50 (for life) for Pick 2 Unlimited which effectively makes my home service $25 and my data card $25. I then use that same data card with Sprint for 3G on an old data card plan.

Tech that site that you keep posting has a lot to do with the old clearwire, not the new clear.

They are brand new and are doing quite well, which is something we can't say about Sprint. Not to mention that any time in the future Sprint might decide to cap their bandwidth as I doubt Clear will do. But that is purely IMO.

Not to mention that there is a huge difference in price between Clear 4G and Sprint 4G.

So to the OP, decide what works best for you. Slightly slower speed but great price value with Clear or higher speed with higher price from Sprint.

Also keep in mind that Clear's ETF is much better than Sprint's if you decide to cancel.

Don't forget the Pick Two Plan gives you two access points. The home modem that can be attached to a home wireless router and the USB modem, for 50/month.

Joined Clear at the beginning of the month with no issue. I'm able to stream movies from Netflix to my Mac and my Series 3 TiVo in the living room with out issue. Good enough for me.

and i was pointing out that they have different prices for different products which is not what you said. see the second quote. i was negating the idea that they have a huge gap in pricing for the same product...because they do not offer the same product. so we are saying the same thing then. but saying they have a different price for 4g is incorrect. if clear offered a 3g/4g plan i am almost certain it would be on par with sprints and comcasts current offerings for the same product. and vice versa for sprint if they had a 4g only. which btw, comcasts offer for home/mobile 4g only is pretty comparable to clears, so there is another option for people too if company name is important.

Very true nomolos but keep in mind that in order to get the 4G only pack from Comcast you already have to be a customer of their products (I believe one of their internet packs) so in essence you are just adding on to services you are already paying for which would make it more like Sprint.

Clear offers a straight up 4G only plan for those that ONLY want 4G. No other provider is offering that right now besides Clear, and definitly not at the price point that they are offering seeing that they are the wholesale provider of the service.

$25 for 4G service for life which is only going to continue to spread around the US... Thats better than 3G if you ask me since in a few years the network will be larger. Only thing that worries me is whether they will pull a "cellular" type move and make it so that those of us on special pricing or life plans will have to upgrade to utilize higher speeds (for uploads since downloads are unlimited) or "lte" if they every switch to that technology.

So, we're all fully aware you've an issue.
I have clear. 2 devices (both fully unlimited!) @50/month for life. I can stream 3 netflix movies to 3 tvs at the same time, no problem. There are 2 known factors affecting clear's home modems by the way - 1: Location. If it's not near a window, you're toast.
2: Energy Efficient windows (typically laminated with copper film inside, etc) - they reflect too much of the signal.

If you don't have those problems, you're going to get great service. Oh, and Tech... FYI - Sprint owns 51% of Clear.

i dont have issues every day like clear does sprint 4g sometimes goes slow but not sow like u cant barely see stuff or go to a site or watch youtube videos the only issues i had so far just loosing some speeds from 2.2mps on average to 700kb that when downloading file for streaming and stuff is fine but me im a big download user and i hog the bandwith but im fine with it beacuase i know sprint does fix the issue clear doesent when iwas with clear 2 months of under 200kb and still my brother has it same speeds still and he lives next door he complains every day

I don't mean to revive a month old thread, but I have a question for you.....

Do you have 3 netflix accounts? Because Netflix does not allow simultaneous access of a single Netflix account with multiple devices. I have Netflix access on my 360, TiVo HD XL, and LG BD390 BluRay player, and have never been able to view, even the same movie, in different rooms in this manner.

But, my guess is that you pay for 3 separate accounts...?

not to mention time warner now in san antonio is offering 4g. all the same shared access?
i'm getting 8-12 down at home, 7-9 with the stick and 1 up consistently from both, which is better than my dsl was getting me (which is sad).
