What program do you use to burn DVD's?
Nero. I think it is version 7. I know it is not the latest version because that one was too bloated and slow.

Ya I had Nero 6 but my new laptop has Vista and it doesn't work with that, and I'm not really looking to spend $50-70

Wirelessly posted (some touch: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 7.11) Sprint PPC6850SP)
what kind of dvd you wanting to burn? Vista has basic Dvd burning already in it. For burning iso's I use a free program called infracorder, just do a Bing search for it.
To burn home movies try the free Windows Live Movie Maker, its downloadable at download.live.com, and free.
I also use Real Player Plus Sp Beta, in addition to burning dvds i use it to save youtube videos and convert them for transfer to my Zune Hd...
hope that helps..

Well so far I have been using DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink and both programs are FREE and work great!

For "Ripping": RipIt4Me (uses DVD Decrypter & DVD Shrink); and if that doesn't work then it's DVD Fab. But I use both all the time.
For "Burning": Nero 8

I just recently became involved in backing up my xbox 360 games. I want to do the same with my dvd movies. (I have a large collection and I'm sick of loaning out dvds only to have them never return.) With the xbox games it's seems pretty easy. The program works. I don't need other programs to read, write and burn the game. The one program does it all. Is this the same concept with DVDs? It seems some of you use two or three programs to complete the task of reading, writing and burning. I simply want to backup my current dvd collection on disc. I've heard about and researched several recommendations. I have Roxio Easy Creator 7 but that is rarely recommended on most sites. I see a lot of people enjoy Imgburn, Burnaware, and Ashampoo Burning Studio. I'm a novice and would like to become more advanced in this area.
1. What makes these software programs better than Roxio or Nero?
2. Do I need more than any one of these programs to complete the copy, write and burn process?
I apologize in advance if these questions make me appear clueless. I am. Thanks.

No worries, ask away. =)
As for Roxio, the reason why they are NOT recommended on most sites is because the software is trash. That is the reason why they come FREE is majority of burner on the market. Nero, for the most part is better than Roxio, but ONLY if you get a FULL VERSION. I've used Nero for years, it's not the best, but it's what I am used to so I go with what I know. Currently I am using Nero 8 Ultra, and it does the job.
ImgBurn from what I've read and heard is a great program. It does everything you want it to do, and best of all... it's FREE!!! I am actually thinking about playing with it to see if it would make things faster and easier for what I do.
As for your question about multiple programs, it depends. Personally, I use two programs for anything DVD related. DVDFab to copy the movie to the HDD (either DVD5 or DVD9) and NERO 8 Ultra to burn the movie to a DVD. I would love to start ripping and burning Blurays, but as expensive as it is, it's NOT worth it atm.
