My GOD! Look where you're at man!

The MIDDLE OF NOWHERE!

j/k.

My sister is trying it out in Abeline and got told there was some service issues. Should be up any time now according to what she was told.

Edit (after thought) Hope this isn't indicative of the service, cause I knew several people in Abilene who had Clearwire before the merger and never had a problem.

I'm in Midland, TX and though service is excellent at my office with up to 13mb down, here at my house, which is all of less than a couple blocks from a clear tower, I get horrible service and signal strength bounces between 1 and 2 bars with the modem resetting itself often. Now that is how you do a run on sentence!

I was in the Woodfield area near Chicago, and Sprint Smartview showed I was connected at HSDPA speeds; however, i was only noticing rev A speeds...maybe a glitch in the software? or are they rolling it out in select suburbs of metropolitan areas?

well still 4g is down under 200 kb down and 300kb up and ive been researching and turns out people from other places been having the same issue and that like 2 month pass no fix at all but they did notice this this guy switch to sprint xohm and at his home get faster speeds and no down side at all then he uses his clear modem slow as hell so i think clear ripping off people still my service been like this for 16 days they say we still in a soft roll out but september 1 is they go all the way and that when sprint xohm is here so if it still like that im getting the sprint xohm better

The only thing you can say is it ISN'T the modem, since "at night" the rate goes up to 3 mbps.

A lot of experimentation will be needed to help isolate the problem.

Can you have something take a download speed sample ever half hour during a couple of 24 hour periods, to see when the download rates increase and decrease?

If so, you have a chance at finding out what's going on.

If the rate drops, suddenly, at 8 AM, and goes back up at 5 PM, that suggests something CLEAR is doing. If the rate starts to slow down around 6 or 6:30 AM, and gradually starts increasing after 10 PM, that suggests there's a subscriber generated problem.

How many sites are you going to to get the download rate? What kind of internet load do those site have during the day?

If you can find a site that's one network "hop" away from CLEAR's local link you can really isolate whether it's a CLEAR specific problem, or the site(s) that you're accessing.

(The traceroute program will help find how many hops and where the traffic load starts to "hit".)

Where does traceroute show the slowdown? (Longer ping times...)

No, I need the traceroute.

All you can say, at this point, is that the link between you and your destination (there's a lot of network in between) gets loaded by traffic. Without the traceroute there no way to tell if the network is loaded at your destination (where and who is that destination?) and the Clearwire network.

TRACEROUTE!

I talked to a very knowledgeable field tech today that knew exactly what the problem is. Some towers in West Odessa and Downtown Midland are over capacity! Some people aren't even able to get online because of this. He told me that it should be cleared up by the end of this month and that Odessa is the main priority because of so many users. He said that each "box" on a tower can accomodate roughly 100 users. It's just a matter of adding extra boxes. BUT...there are weight capacity issues with the boxes...they are in the process of taking down Clearwire boxes and replacing them with Clear boxes to provide more capacity.

when I first connected my Clear WiMAX, I did a speed test and was getting 3.8Mbps, now I'm not getting anywhere near that number :( I live in Abilene, TX. I don't understand how we have WiMAX here and not 3G for our Sprint phones... what?!

That is supposedly in progress. Having talked to Sprint, they have said that 3G is pending regulatory approval. We shall see how long that takes. It still doesn't explain why it took this long for them to try.

It's not your modem. According to the previous poster its the tower site equipment.

Sounds like a provisioning or interference issue with the Clear modem. Is it fast during the night every night or just every so often?

They are saying by early 2010 (around Feb) but I've had heard by a friend by the end of this year so I guess we'll see.
