Well, I thought I would start the official 09-10 thread for this upcoming season. Here are my thoughts on the season.
West
Lakers - obvious
Spurs - new trades really made an older team a little bit younger
Nuggets - No trades made but that experience should help
Blazers - finally a reliable PG who will make right decisions and make BRoy
handle the ball less.
Clippers - If they can stay healthy this year they have way to much talent
Hornets - Emeka/West/CP3 more of a threat then Chandler/West/CP3
Jazz/Mavericks - A toss up
East
Celtics - KG is back, 'nuff said
Magic - Even though they lost Hedo they still my #2
Cavs - Lebron and Shaq will need some time to adjust
Hawks - Young team still getting the grasp of things
Raptors - Hedo + Bosh
Chicago - go rid of some key players
Miami - DWade needs some serious help!
In the West Conference I see Lakers vs Spurs and East I see Celtics vs Cav's with Lakers vs Celtics in the Finals to win it all. Lakers are way to stacked to bet against them and Vegas odds are still in their favor. =)
Well, Lebron and Shaq will have 82 games to adjust before they put the whoppin' on everyone else!

Lakers need to resign Odom to be the favorites out west but deff upgraded by signing Artest over Ariza
Portland can be as good as the #2 seed with the addition of Miller
SA will be up at the top as long as they stay healthy and they stacked there bench pretty good
Denver will take a step back this season I think
Either the Clippers or OKC will make the playoffs I think probably OKC
Dallas got better with Marion
NO will lose alot of defense by tarding Chandler and may be the odd team out for the playoffs
Jazz are up in air depends what they do with Boozer
Suns got worse and won't make the playoffs
nobody else in the West really matters
Celtics if healthy can take the East
Cavs got Shaq but will that be enough??
Orlando is gonna be a whole new team by getting VC and losing Hedo but they have they best bench in the league IMO I'm not sure if they got better
Toronto will be improved alot by getting Hedo
Miami needs to get some help for Wade
Atlanta is solid and should be atleast a 5th seed
Chicago lost Ben Gordon and hasn't done anything to replace him
Detroit made alot of moves but still won't get out of the 1st round
Knicks will only be worried about signing Lebron in 2010
There might be a sleeper team in the 8th seed like CHA
Lakers get payback for 07-08 and beat Celtics in the 09-10 finals is what I would like and could easily happen. I don't see Orlando making the Finals again and I'm sure the League would LOVE for Lebron and the Cavs to go up against the Lakers. Either way Kobe will be making a 5 Rings Tshirt

Trust me my Suns will be back in the playoffs :D Last season was a joke. They had to go through 2 different style of play coaches. No chemisty. Amar'e injured half the season. Shaq clogging the lane for Nash. They (in my opinion) had the worst defense in the league. Yet they still missed the playoffs by only 2 games.
I put them up as high as the #5 seed because they will be back to the run n' gun Suns of old. They will put up 120 on any given team come next year. The defense will still be the problem of holding them back, but it'll be fun watching the best offensive team in the league again :tu:
No Wizards love? I think they are going to be another solid team with the additions of Foye and Miller in the East and if Arenas is healthy

I don't see the Suns doing much sorry. And I knew I was forgetting someone in the East, the Wizards should deff make the playoffs if healthy.

Nothing else really matter much now that LA resigned Odom. All we have to do is worry about injurys *knock on wood*
I want revenge for 07-08 against Boston, that or beating Lebron and Shaq would be almost as good.
bball1011
07-30-2009, 07:00 PM
I would love nothing more than to see a Lakers vs. Celtics finals too. Yea Lakers vs. Cavs would be nice , but I don't see the Cavs even making the ECF, *cough* ----> Shaq.
On another note, I predict the league MVP will be Kobe Bryant of course :D

I can wait for revenge next year! Right now I just want a Kobe vs Lebron matchup. Especially while Kobe still has some gas in the tank. The man isn't getting any younger.

I can definitely see Kobe being the league MVP this year. I really believe that the Olympic games took a toll on his body, not having the ability to rest during the summer.
SprintMamba
07-31-2009, 02:37 PM
This is Kobe's 1st summer completely off so he should get tons of rest, just imagine how well he should play next season. I hope Kobe gets another MVP but I see the league pushing Lebron even more this season so it will be tough. I see Kobe having another 3 great years left before he starts to decline, he has played alot of ball so far in his career.

Last year was the first year I could honestly tell Kobe was gauging the season. He was just doing enough to win games and save himself for the playoffs.
KG is another player who also has a lot of miles on him.
bball1011
07-31-2009, 03:48 PM
Kobe is in his prime. His game will get even better now that Artest has joined the team and has Pau believing he is unstoppable. I can see a few 15+ assist games for Kobe next year. Just like wine, his game will get finer with age :p
SprintMamba
07-31-2009, 05:21 PM
I wish the Lakers would feed Gasol the ball more, he should/could easily average 25+ points. I just hope Artest knows he is in LA to play D not to be a #1 or 2 scoring option
bball1011
07-31-2009, 06:47 PM
I think that is exactly what we are going to see more from Pau in the next couple of years. We saw how hard Kobe was on Pau in the playoffs and that's because he knows Pau is a force and can become better than what he already is. With the mental toughness that Kobe is trying to put on him, Pau can easily put up 25/10 numbers.
I'm pretty sure Artest knows his role and if he doesn't then Kobe and Phil will let him know. He wants a title and that is the reason he came to L.A. All Artest has to do is be himself, which is play D, play physical, and be Kobe's bodyguard lol Ron is not the crazy guy who went up the stands punching fans anymore, but I still wouldn't wanna mess with him as we all saw how he will still get in your face like he did in Kobe's grill in the playoffs.
I don't think the Lakers have nothing to worry about, except for injuries like SprintMamba said. Now the Lakers are a more solid complete team as they now have the toughness they needed in Artest.

NBA Schedule just came out: NBA Full Scheule (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/schedule?date=20091027)
Highlighted some of the important games
Oct. 27: Opening Night (TNT)
This is a replay of sorts of last year's opening night, when the then-defending champion Boston Celtics received their championship rings before hosting the Cleveland Cavaliers. This time, the venue is The Q and there will be no rings, but there will be some "Diesel" power, with Shaquille O'Neal making his Cavs debut. The Lakers gets their rings prior to TNT's nightcap against the Clippers. Those who purchase the NBA package also can check in on Washington-Dallas and Houston-Portland.
Oct. 28: Opening Night continued (ESPN)
What is this -- the Worldwide Leader showing an overt Left Coast bias? The mothership beams two games from the far side of the Mississippi into your homes: New Orleans-San Antonio followed by Utah-Denver. The burning question here: Which will end first, Jazz-Nuggets or Game 1 of the World Series?
For this Opening Night, Part 2, there are 10 games in all on tap, including the defending Eastern Conference champion Orlando Magic, with Vince Carter now aboard, hosting Philadelphia; the Cavs playing the second night of a back-to-back, in Toronto; the Celtics also getting the early back-to-back treatment as they host Charlotte; and the Pistons deciding whether it'll be Rodney Stuckey, Richard Hamilton or Ben Gordon coming off the bench as they open at Memphis.
Oct 29: San Antonio at Chicago (TNT)
Richard Jefferson is expected to attend, wearing black. If he changes his mind, expect to be notified by e-mail.
Oct. 30: Chicago at Boston (ESPN); Orlando at New Jersey; Golden State at Phoenix
Based on what happened between the Bulls and C's in April, we should expect this one to go two or three overtimes, at a minimum. Also, Vince Carter returns to The Swamp, and several hundred witnesses are expected (when Jason Kidd played his alumni game at the Meadowlands, the place was maybe half-full, prompting Kidd to say it reminded him of his first home game with the Nets). For the Warriors and Suns, it'll be a night for both teams to wonder what might have been had the Amare Stoudemire trade talks on draft night moved forward. Over/under on Stephen Curry's playing time (Don Nelson has this thing about rookies; just ask Anthony Randolph): two minutes.
Oct. 31: Philadelphia at New York
On Halloween night, the Knicks come disguised as an NBA team with high hopes for the immediate future. The "We Want LeBron" chants should start about midway through the second quarter.
Nov. 1: Orlando at Toronto
Hedo Turkoglu's old teammates will get an up-close look at why he spurned Portland to sign in a more international city. The 1 p.m. local time tipoff means the game will be on in prime time in Turkey, where the folks can listen to their expatriate brethren in Canada go nuts for the Raptors' new small forward. (Interestingly, the teams play another Sunday matinee at the Air Canada Centre on Nov. 22 and finish their season series Jan. 6.)
Nov. 3: Washington at Cleveland
We'll see what Gilbert Arenas and/or DeShawn Stevenson can come up with between now and this particular Tuesday to restoke what was recently one of the East's better rivalries.
Nov. 4: Boston at Minnesota
Another homecoming of sorts for Kevin Garnett, who hopefully will have said something for public consumption by then. For the record, KG has not spoken publicly since March 25, violating the league's media access guidelines.
Nov. 6: Cleveland at New York (ESPN)
This is LBJ's first appearance at what Knicks fans hope will be his future home since he had a triple-double in February that was later rescinded when the league ruled Ben Wallace should have been credited with what was initially called James' 10th rebound.
Nov. 11: Cleveland at Orlando (ESPN)
The last time these teams faced each other, Dwight Howard went for 40 and LeBron James stormed out of the arena without saying a word. This time, it'll be Shaq, not Zydrunas Ilgauskas, getting the defensive assignment against the youngster he feels stole his nickname.
Nov. 12: Cleveland at Miami (TNT)
It'll be Jamario Moon's homecoming, but the real action should come beforehand in the visiting locker room, when The Big Cuyahoga likely will have something new to say about Stan Van Gundy and/or Dwight Howard and their meeting the previous night.
Nov. 13: L.A. Lakers at Denver (ESPN)
It'll be Friday the 13th, and if we know Denver coach George Karl, he'll be wondering what sort of bad luck will befall him. If he chooses to defend Kobe Bryant with Arron Afflalo, Karl will find out quickly.
Nov. 14: Oklahoma City at San Antonio
Both teams are off the previous night, which means Spurs general manager R.C. Buford probably will take his former assistant Sam Presti out to dinner and Presti will get carded. (The guy looks about 19 years old.)
Nov. 19: Chicago at L.A. Lakers (TNT)
This will be one of the defending champs' nine appearances on TNT. They're also scheduled to appear six times on ABC, 10 times on ESPN and zero times on NBA TV (although it's a safe bet they'll turn up on quite a few Tuesdays, when fans get to vote for the game they want to see). Other teams getting the max treatment of 10 ESPN appearances are the Cavs, Celtics, Spurs, Suns and Trail Blazers.
Nov. 22: Oklahoma City at L.A. Lakers
TiVo alert. If we are correct in our above reference to the Thunder being a sleeper team, this will be one to watch: Kevin Durant versus Kobe (unless Scott Brooks makes the unwise decision to let bearded rookie James Harden check No. 24).
Nov. 26: Orlando at Atlanta (TNT); Chicago at Utah (TNT)
For your Thanksgiving feast, we offer Dwight Howard back in his hometown and the Bulls on the next-to-last stop of their annual early season road trip, in which they will not play any home games between Nov. 14 and Dec. 2.
Nov. 29: Memphis at L.A. Clippers; New Jersey at L.A. Lakers
Busy day for the work crew at Staples Center, as they will spend the late afternoon changing the floor. Probably a busy day on StubHub, too, as local season-ticket holders look at the caliber of competition and try to find something better to do with their Sunday.
Dec. 2: Detroit at Chicago
Ben Gordon's alumni game, but you'll need to purchase the NBA package if you want to watch it. NBA TV is broadcasting nationally that night and has chosen to televise Sixers-Thunder and Rockets-Clippers (NBA TV also passed on Suns-Cavs, Shaq's first game against his most recent former team).
Dec. 3: Boston at San Antonio (TNT)
We've been hearing all summer how the league has morphed into the haves and the have-nots. Well, then, it should be a delight to have two haves going against each other in the national spotlight.
Dec. 15: L.A. Lakers at Chicago
You can expect some speculation about whether this will be the final time Phil Jackson coaches a game in the Windy City -- unless he makes that speculation moot before then by announcing his plans for 2010-11.
Dec. 16: Toronto at Orlando
It'll be the third meeting of the season between the teams but Turkoglu's first in his old building.
Dec. 21: Cleveland at Phoenix (NBA TV)
Shaq plays another alumni game, and we can all wonder along with Sasha Pavlovic and Ben Wallace just why Suns owner Robert Sarver sold so low on one of his prime assets.
Dec. 25: Merry Christmas to the fifth degree
For the second straight year, the NBA serves up a quintupleheader: Heat-Knicks at noon (ESPN), followed by Celtics-Magic and LeBron-Kobe on ABC, and Clippers-Suns and Nuggets-Trail Blazers as the nightcap doubleheader on ESPN.

Rashard Lewis tests positive for steroids
I think this is really bad for ORL. Lewis will be out the first 10 games of the season and this could make a big difference on which seed they end up being in the playoffs.
Brandon Roy agrees to $80 mil extension
Very smart move by Portland. I can easily see Roy being the league MVP in the future.

Big Baby resigns with BOS, if they stay healthy they might just have the best rotation in the league. They are the only team I think they Lakers should be really worried about

When a fantasy league starts up, there's a draft among all current players in the NBA. This is usually held in a 'snake' order. After the draft is done, for each day, you set a line up. In a head to head league, it's split into several categories (points, assists, TO, rebounds, etc) and if your players combined have more points, assists, etc than your opponents, you are awarded one point. At the end of the week, you move on to a different opponent. (Your the categories you won and lost for that week are you W-L record, respectively, for that particular week.) Sorry if this seemed like I was rambling since I just woke up. :)

LOL@the SU's , yea i lost quite a few SU's in the playoffs.. but this season i shall regain them and more:haha:
With all the change we had on our team, this season can be a make or break to us, if the chemistry is there, then we can go all the way, but if the chemistry is not there, then it will break us and probably have us eliminated in the first round of the upcoming playoffs. So Overall, i cant make a sound judgment on whether we will be better, cause i have to give credit to our squad last season for the tremendous effort they put in, we were the underdogs, and came out on top in the East. so this seasons squad has some pretty big shoes to fill.
So with the Loss of Shaq and ineffectiveness of grant hill, how will the suns do? better or worse then last season?

The loss of Shaq is actually a blessing for my Suns :music: He just wasn't a good fit for the team's style of play. He clogged the lane for Nash and his pick and roll defense also hurt us.
Grant Hill was a blessing to re-sign. He is co-captain of the team and is playing really good ball. For the 1st time in his career he played all 82 games this past year. He averaged 12 points/5 rebounds/52% field goals in 29 minutes a game. So there is no worries on Hill.
My Suns will be better this year. Slow Shaq gone, young bench players showed promise 2nd half of last season, Amare will be a beast if healthy, and they will be back to the 7 seconds or less offense. Its gonna be a fun year, you'll see on Nov. 4th what I'm talking about. :Popcorn2:

I think Houston has a shot for the 8th seed. They are still a good team. I like the inside play and hustle of Scola and Ariza will be helping them with his youth and length as he helped the Lakers. If Yao and T-Mac wouldn't be hurt all the time, I think they'd be up there with the Lakers. I wouldn't mind seeing a 1st round matchup between these 2 teams as HOU makes the Lakers play harder. I agree that's complete BS. Ricky Rubio after all these years has been begging to play in the NBA and now that he has his chance he rufeses. The kid is already acting like a pre Madonna thinking he can choose want team he wants to go to.
On the other hand though, his family did warn the T-Wolves that he didn't want to play there and he would more then likely still in Euroleague if they did draft him days and even I believe weeks before the draft. I'm sure the T-Wolves took that threat a little serious because they drafted 3 point guards.
That's the way the cookie crumbles....

He was the last of a dying breed back from the 90's when players actually were aggressive on defense and less about finesse. I hated when he played against Portland or Los Angeles(mostly because I was affarid Broy or Kobe would get hurt) but he was a tough defensive player despite what people say. He always got the job done(no matter what the cost, lol).

Summer Forecast: '09-10 East standings (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?page=OffseasonPredictions09-EastStandings)
They've got Cleveland then Boston and finally Orlando. I don't understand why people keep putting these guys at number 1 in the East. I really believe they overachieved last year and won't repeat that performance again next year. I think the Celtics are going to do what the Lakers did after losing in the Finals and come back stronger. Their toughness has been challenged and I think they are more then capable to respond especially with K.G coming back and Rondo single handily keeping them alive in the playoffs.
I got Celtics, Orlando, Cleveland in that exact order.

This season looks very promising. A lot of great teams out there! Love it! :tu:
The Lakers are 4-1, but they do not look like a 4-1 team right now. Especially since they bearly beat the Rockets last night by "1" point?!? Come on now Lakers! Get it in gear and show the rest of the NBA that a repeat IS possible!
Kobe does NOT have to be the work horse each and every night! Also, Lamar get cho head in the GAME and not that UGLY *** OGRE(!!!) you call a "wife"!
Its all about them Houston Rockets :tu:

Well it's getting a little heated here.. I, for one would take that $1000 bet on the game. But it's hard for me to choose which side. IF O'Neil can contain Howard, then I believe that the Cavs can take the game. But who will take on Carter? There's still around 50 mins until tip off, so I'll have to evaluate the game.
BUT - TIFFY! I'll bet you on TOMORROW's Lakers/Suns game. Wanna go??? =P

Let's go lol I'll put 1000 SU$ on my Suns. I'm a Lakers fan as well, but PHX is my 1st love :)
I'd bet more but I'm already down 1000 and its the Suns 2nd game of playing back to back and we saw what happened to the Magic tonight after playing back to back.
Yes, thats my excuse for ORL losing :p

Cavs clicked on all cylinders last night. I think Mo new he had to pick his game up after not playing good in the playoffs last year plus West was out. I like Mo's game but at times he just needs to shut up and play ball.

Thank you, Thank you ma'am! I don't have cable, so I had to follow the game on espn.com. Which is totally fine with me. Just a HUGE delay. LMAO! But yeah, the Lakers are NOT 100% and they're playing this well. Remember, this is Bynum's first game back... can we say monster?

I picked the Lakers to win the title this year, but yea I didn't think they would be this good. I know my Suns are tired and the Lakers haven't played in a while, but their D looks awesome. I think Artest is the reason for that nasty D.

Yah, and there doing all this without Pau, that's what's really scary!
Other basketball news, Byron Scott got fired! That's total bull! It's been only 9 games into the season and they already let him go for a mess that's not completely his fault! He had no say in the trading and picking up of certain players and now the GM is interm coach. Well, I hope the GM takes control of the team he realizes first hand what a mess he created down there and it wasn't Byron's fault.

I feel bad for the Hornets fans. They are going to have a horrible year.
As for the Lakers, Friday's loss against the Nuggets proved they can not win without Pau OR they were just tired from playing back to back. I think its a little bit of both, but would like to think its more of the tired factor, which might explain why my Suns lost so bad against LA :p
Tonight's HOU/LAL game should be good. I see it being a close game.

Well the Suns really took it out of the Lakers. Plus traveling is never good after a hard game.

Yes true true and thats why the December 28th game will tell how good my Suns really are, since Amare should be 100% by then, Pau should be back for the Lakers, and both teams will be equally rested for that game.
Just hope Bynum doesn't get hurt ... again :fingers:

Good win for my Suns over the Rockets. I knew I shouldn't have second guessed myself to have done a bet lol
All we need is a center to get over the top, but PHX doesn't believe in centers grrr lol

Since recently put into the starting line up J.J. Hickson for the Cavs is playing good ball. He was a perfect 9-for-9 from the field last night. He's scored 18,20, and 21 in his last 3 games and he's only 21. :)
