Hi Everyone!

I went down to my local Radio Shack the other day to get a couple of the Boost phones. some temporary lines but didn't want to add them to my Sprint account. I settled on the Motorola i776 for both phones.

Anyway, before I made the purchase I thoroughly checked out the street level Nextel maps to make sure that the coverage at my house was good. Turns out that I am smack dab on the border of "Great" coverage and "Good" coverage. That made me very happy!

Unfortunately, as soon as I step foot in my house the signal goes waaaay down. sometimes it even drops to "No Service".

I finally got a call from a Boost Mobile rep who said that I should have coverage outside but not inside.

I was wondering if:

a) That's just the way it is IDEN service.
- or -
b) Is there a better Nextel phone which would give much better reception.

Thanks :thought:

With Boost Mobile your on the bottom of the barrel for coverage. Just like any prepaid carrier.

With boost you have the lowest priority on a Nextel tower. Most likely thats playing a big roll in your RF.

Boost Mobile has the same SAME coverage as a Nextel phone or customer ...

They have the same priority !

Thanks for the replies. I figured that the Nextel phones took priority over Boost phones (i.e. if the tower was very busy a Nextel call would be allowed before a Boost call).

So you think somehow the reception gets compromised with Boost phones? Is that what you mean by "RF"?

Cheers

Be it The government , Nextel or Boost they are all equal in normal services...

In an emergency that would be a different story

Might want to read this before you claim Nextel and Boost have the same priority on Nextel Towers... TRUST me no company is going to give a pre-paid company the same level of priority on the cell towers as its post-paid customers. Its just fact. You can tell yourself otherwise all you want. If you would like more proof of Boost being the lowest priority on a Nextel cell tower i will certainly give it to you.

Hi everyone,

My real question isn't about priority. With respect to that, everything I've read leads me to believe that Nextel users have priority over Boost users. The priority of Boost users was made equal in certain areas in order to clear up the text delays, but I can't be certain of that.

Anyway, my real question was about coverage and reception. I wanted to know if anyone had enough experience with Nextel devices to know if one was phone was better than the other with respect to reception.

Thanks again!

I was an avid nextel user up through my latest phone the i930. They were all relatively similar in coverage and signal strength. If I had to say, i60 and i90 had great coverage - as well as the i700plus (10 years ago) My i930 is pretty good on reception as well. I have owned everything in between a i700 to the i930. An again, any difference in reception/signal is not drastic IMO.

That sounds pretty normal to me. I am in the same boat as far as the coverage map indicating I'm in a good coverage area. Once I enter my house though my signal fluctuates a lot, anywhere from full signal to no service without even moving the phone. I can sit and watch it while it's on the charger and it will go up and down like that just sitting there on the table.

I have the nextel i580
