The Cavs will even up the series tonight and they'll get home court back. I wouldn't bet against Lebron James if the series was 3-0. I know the Cavs got swept against the Spurs a few years ago but Leborn and the Cavs are a lot better now.

Did anyone read the article about the Chinese investors to buy into Cavs? If Lebron stays with the Cavs and they get another superstar (Chris Bosh) they'll win at least a few NBA Championships.

West got knocked down with 6 seconds and a Cavs 1 point lead and then Varejo gets tackled right before the OT. I guess it's a good no call but damn. I just don't understand why they call touch fouls all through the game but not in the last seconds. Well I guess Lebron got a call with .5. lol

I'm surprised the Cavs had a chance considering how well Orlando shot from the 3-point line. I thought that would cost them the game but Lewis was able to hit a wide open one in the last seconds. Every game has come done to the last few seconds and I know you guys think I'm crazy but I still think the Cavs have a shot even being down 3-1. 1 game at a time.

For the exact same reason I've said in the other thread in the beginning of the season. He is a power forward who doesn't know how to play with his back to the rim and his jump shot is mediocre! If he's not taking it to the basket he's not scoring. PERIOD.

Not looking good for my Cavy's but 1 game at a time. As i said before I would never count out Lebron James. The Cavs problem isan't Mo Willams. They need a center. Looking back the Shaq trade might have been a good trade. He's old to but he at least would be able to foul Howard.

Yeah, Cavs are in good shape still for playing 4 pretty crappy games. They'll win game 5 and make it 3-2. If they can squeek out a game 6 win (should be able to do since they came so close twice playing bad), then that takes them back to Cleveland for a game 7!

Cavs are good, but lets face it ,orlando is a better team. Lebron keeps doing well, 42+ points in this series, however 1 man cant do it on his own. Game 5, Orlando will beat the cavs on their homecourt. we should of had game 2 anyway,so just like we finished the 76ers and Celtics on thier own court, so shall we do the cavs:haha:

Thank goodness we didn't trade Shaq to CLE. We need to get Tyson Chandler not big slow zeek :D Anyway thats not for here, but yes that would've meant an easy ring for the Cavs this year lol As for CLE, they have a center, they just gotta get Howard in foul trouble. He fouled out a lot in the regular season, I wonder why he isn't fouling out in this series *shrugs*

Hmmm, the series could just as easily be 3-1 CLE, but it just seems like ORL wants it more. CLE is being outcoached, Lebron isn't taking it inside more (yes I think he needs to take it way more inside), and CLE is making horrible decisions. Someone needs to slap the "coach of the year" across the face to wake his team up. He's coaching each game like its a regular season game. Where's the adjustments being made "coach of the year"??? The only thing Mike Brown changes are his glasses. :icon_smil

Yea, we been in situations like this, with the 76ers and Celtics. cavs never had a team challenge them like this. tomorrow game has a big pressure on them, because every shot will count. if they shoot poorly in the 1st half then their confidence will be gone in the 2nd.

I'm pretty sure the coaching has something to do with it. I'm not saying its all of the coaching. I know the rest of the team has to step up shooting, but how are the players gonna defend mismatches. The match-ups on D that CLE is playing is horrible especially when I think Lebron should be playing Hedo. Hedo plays well when he has the ball and can see the whole court when little 6'3" West is guarding him. This matchup doesn't make sense to me at all.

w7excursion
05-27-2009, 07:36 PM
Even if he made the change the rest of the magic team is ready to shoot. Thats why the rest of the team needs to step up. They just put hedo on lj because hes big. Its smart to have west there on D cause he checks turg all the time. No need to change that IMO.

tbakergobuck
05-27-2009, 09:41 PM
I'll give Orlando credit, they made a few more clutch shots and that's why there up 3-1 but it's not like there blowing the Cavs out. Even with the Cavs inconstant play and mismatch issues they still had a chance to win every game they lost. It's to bad the Cavs have been missing open shots they hit all year long not to mention I thought they were better closing games then Orlando. I don't care for LA so if my Cavs don't pull of a miracle come back I would like Denver to win it all.

Note to CAVS fans: you can have the MVP, we here in L.A. will take the best CLOSER in the GAME! So all the witnesses, can witness missed free throws in crucial moments of the 4th quarter. Witness extremely low three point and perimeter shooting percentage. Witness your supporting cast withering away in hostile post season play. Witness all the marketing ploys your star gains with a resume thats not battle tested nor proven. You so called "King" supporters make us in L.A. laugh. Your boy can't be compared to the legends. To all you Lebron haters. lol Didn't it take MJ 6 years to win a Championship?? So how long has Lebron been in the NBA?? 5 years people. Lebron will have a few rings before he's done, he's only 24 freaking years old. I just hope he wins a Championship in Cleveland. The Lakers, Denver, Orlando all have more then a few players that are stars. The Cavs don't really have another star other the Lebron. When they get another star player they should be great.

It's funny how everyone wrote off the Cavs and gave them no attention during the regular season. As much as I love KOBE and the LAKERS. I cant say I dont love LEBRON too, he is a young man who is doing his thing in the NBA. And he has handled his success off the court like his nickname KING JAMES- In an era of pro stars having major legal issues off the courts. Did he deserve the MVP...yes. He has played well and although his team might not make it to finals doesnt erase what he has done up now. I wanted to see LEBRON and KOBE go at in the finals....LEBRON still has my second second pick if I was creating a dream team of active players, KOBE would be my first pick because he is the man and he proves it when he goes hard EVERY DAY win or lose.

I still dont count Cavs all the way out....HOWEVER THE FAT LADY IS IN THE BUILDING PRACTICING TO SING!!!

I don't think his hype will ever go away. Like TB said he's ONLY 24. Most players don't really develop their game until around 28 and that makes him scary. I do however think those Kobe/Lebron commercials were a little too much/premature...

Shaq's rings? What are you talking about?

Those aren't shaq's rings? It was combo situation. Each could not have done it without the otehr person. BUT, if you were going to go purely by numbers the argument could be made that they are actually Kobe's since he had more of an impact on the team stats wise then Shaq.

I think thats because everyone used the hack-a-shaq strategy. So kobe and the rest of the team had more opportunities to score and get their hands on the ball.

In both situations, neither Shaq without Kobe or Jordan without Pippen would have rings if they didn't have them. So you can't make that argument. I won't argue that Jordan is the best of all time and that Shaq was freakishly unstoppable, but Kobe did have a lot of clutch shots and plays made during the Lakers championship years which without those, I doubt Lakers would have won 3 in a row.

There haven't been any titles true, until...oh yea there will be one this year just keep watching :D

Shaq has 1 more because he was paired up with another great shooting guard. While Kobe was stuck with Kwame, Smush and Luke Walton for three years. Shaq has never won a Championship by himself yet alone get into the playoffs by himself. He has always needed some kind of dominant shooting guard around him. Penny --> Kobe --> Wade

xStriderx
05-28-2009, 05:57 PM
I think thats because everyone used the hack-a-shaq strategy. So kobe and the rest of the team had more opportunities to score and get their hands on the ball.

Hack-a-Shaq had no bearing on Kobe's performance off the ball. Hack-a-Shaq was to prevent Shaq from scoring late into the 4th quarter to stop the clock and send Shaq to the line, that's it. A side effect of that was not an increase of assists or points to another player, in this case Kobe. It was meant to remove Shaq from the floor so the opposing team can go back to single coverage instead of having to send a double down to Shaq and then freeing up one Laker player to shoot.

You've got it backwards.

bball1011

^ Exactly. That 06 Heat team was also stacked with talent: Wade, Posey, Kapono, Haslem, Mourning, JWilliams, Payton, etc...and Shaq hardly even played in the 06 Finals, so he really didn't have that much of an impact to why he has 1 more ring than Kobe.

Not if Mike Brown can actually coach!

Geezus, I was so mad when he recieved Coach of the year. I seriously thought there were better coaches more derserving. For one, Nate McMillin, he did a lot this year with a lot less talent. He actually COACHED! Mike Brown, when things are going sour just says, "everyone continue to play defense and on offense just give it to LBJ!" Obviously, that strategy isn't working and we're quickly finding out that Mike Brown can't matchup players worth issh! Seriously, Lebron on Alston!?!?! ***! Put him on Hedo or Rashard and take away one of their weapons. ugh! Hopefully he makes some kind of adjustment worthy of being Coach of the Year today.

It wasnt only for the fourth quarter. And you proved my point:TO FREE UP ANOTHER PLAYER WHICH WAS KOBE A LOT OF THE TIME. The double team is a no brainer. Nobody was willing to give up the easy dunk for two. I have it forwards. On any team, one person cant do it all. I could easy say that shaq made kobe better, look at his stats. But that would be an opinion and everyone is entitled to one. goodie goodie

I think thats because everyone used the hack-a-shaq strategy. So kobe and the rest of the team had more opportunities to score and get their hands on the ball.

Hack a Shaq was rarely used in any other part of the game other then the FOURTH QUARTER. It was a desperation move created by Don Nelson to stop the clock. Hack a Shaq in NO WAY created open shots for other players because it sent Shaq straight to the line where he would miss free throws and the opposing team would get the ball back. Again, in no way did it create open shots. Eventually after a team would slowly creep back into the game Phil would be forced to take Shaq out creating a level playing field on defense. Now the defense no longer had to crash on Shaq but every man could play straight up D making it HARDER for people like Kobe and team to get shots.

The birth of Hack-a-Shaq

[edit] Nelson's innovation

Although there are a number of game situations in which it may make sense for a defense to commit an isolated intentional foul, from its inception, the strategy of intentional fouling repeatedly, on each and every possession by the opposition, was used only as a desperation measure. It was thought to make sense only when time was so short in the game, that a team trailing in the game, when they were on defense, had to make stopping the clock an even greater priority than stopping the other team from scoring. The strategy was not thought to make sense at most other times because, as mentioned above, allowing a team to shoot free throws typically will generate more points for them over time than does playing a standard defense.

When Shaq was with the Lakers, he would miss the free throws when teams would use the "Hack-a-Shaq", and Phil would have to take him out. This put more pressure on the team and this is when Kobe would excel and carry the team. More pressure was on Kobe to sustain the team's lead and close out games. So, Kobe deserves just as much credit as Shaq for those rings.

We saw the "Hack-a-Shaq" here in Phoenix too by Pop in last year's playoffs. He was scared of the Suns offense and settled for fouling Shaq when the Spurs would be down and because he knew Shaq was a poor free throw shooter, the Suns would not score on the Spurs. D'Antoni would leave Shaq in because he was making at least 1 of 2 free throws and could live with that since Shaq was needed on D.

Good find on the rediculous "hack a shaq" :tu:

Nice to see the Cavs finally play a good game vs Orlando but the Cavs need to stop blowing 20+ point leads. LeBron James recorded his fourth career playoff triple-double on Thursday, tying him with Tim Duncan for second-most such games among active players. The Mavs' Jason Kidd heads the list with 11.

Well if we learn one thing from this year’s conference finals is that NOTHING is set in stone. Just because two teams have been "slotted" for the NBA Finals, doesn't mean it's going to happen. And being a Lakers fan I can really appreciate every game that has been played thus far (most have been nail biters). I will NOT take anything away from the Nuggets, as they have proven that they ARE the team to beat. And the same goes for the Magics! I would have to say that this year’s playoffs have been the most intriguing since the 80's. It's pretty much come down to a coin flip folks and any one of these four teams deserves to win the NBA Championship. So buckle up your seat belt kiddies, cuz this is going to be a VERY bumpy ride! :D

Gonna be a great Series. Will be close in game one, Lakers will win but not by much. Lakers will take control in game two. Orlando will win the first game back home, and the Lakers will respond with a hard fought win in the 4th game. Orlando will force a game 6 on a last minute shot by Hedo, and then the Lakers will dominate in the close-out game back in Staples, just like they did to Denver. Lakers will be the champs on June 16th.

Lakers in six, unless they play every game like game six at Denver, then Lakers with the sweep!

PS...Sorry tbaker, you're a good egg, and I know you love your Cavs and it hurts right now. I was there last year and every year since 1988 till last year with my beloved Dodgers.

Obviously he should have taken lesson from the book of Kobe. If anything Lebron didn't do his team justice by playing the way he did. An espn article I read earlier reffered to him as having an old disease called, "Kobe Syndrome." Where you have to score all the points and create all the plays because you don't trust your teammates to do anything. The ball was stuck in his hand way to much and after awhile all the players just became spectators. He should have learned that doesn't win championships. It's great for your individual stats and all but nothing more. Reggie Miller during the post game wrap up after the night Kobe played decoy actually commented that he was surprised Lebron didn't follow suite after that peformance and get his team involved in the same manner.

The Cavs only have one superstar but hopefully next season they'll have a few. :fingers:

I do agree with you to an extent. It wasn't like they went ice cold. The simplest explanation of why they missed those routine shots was due to Orlando's hustle, height and length.

You are right about the fact the others have multiple stars and Cav's only have role players but people forget that those role players got them to the Eastern Conference finals, the best record in the NBA and a terrific home record we haven't seen in years. During the season people were touting how great the team was and how Mo Williams was the missing piece and how everyone plays team ball. Now they lose and Cav's fans now want to turn the coversation around and say it was because he doen't have another allstar to help him. You guys can't have it both ways.

You guys can't have it both ways.I thought the week off after the Pistons and Hawks series would help the Cavs but after seeing the Cavs miss wide open shots against Orlando I think it hurt them. Mo Willams was a great addition but still that's only 2 superstars if you call him that plus it was his first playoffs. The Cavs are probably thinking that they should have made that trade for a center considering how bad Ilgauskas and big ben played against Orlando. It will be interesting to see who the Cavs pick up next season.

^What you guys need is another floor general who doesn't bend easily to Lebron's will. Someone who can direct things without the ball having to be in his hand 24/7. A stability factor which we got when we acquired Derek Fisher again. That and an obvious center like you mentioned.

I think Lebron needs to just learn the game more. He has the potential to be right up there with MJ and better coaching for James would do it. All the greats have had good coaching and I don't see CLE winning with this year's "coach of the year".

After seeing Orlando have issues closing a few games against Boston I thought they would do the same against the Cavs but they didn't. I think it might come down to who shoots the 3 - pointer better. I know most LA fans think they will win the Championship but I think it will be a good series that could be decided by a few last second shots.

Jameer Nelson coming back would probably do Orlando more harm then good. For one, there is a good chance he's not 100% and on top of that he's not in basketball shape.

I think Orlando will be smart about it and only have Jameer Nelson play limited minutes so I doubt his conditioning will be a problem. Who knows if he will help since he hasn't played in awhile. I was surprised Anthony Johnson played pretty good against the Cavs.

Its called reality dude lol ORL hasn't faced a team like LAL. LAL went through much better teams than ORL. LAL went through a solid defensive UTA team, tough defensive players in Battier and Artest on Kobe, and the high scoring Nuggets. I just don't see how ORL can win. 3 points is a low percentage shot and that will not win a title.

xStriderx
06-03-2009, 03:29 AM
^Couldn't agree more. Orlando and Orlando fans benefited from playing a team which matched up horribly with them. Everything Orlando did was embellished a tad bit because of it. The Lakers on the other hand strengthened a weakness they had going into the playoffs playing Denver which was toughness.

It may be a low percentage shot but when you shoot it at 40-45% like they often do, that's better then many teams shoot from the field!

LOL..we shall see if they did. Gasol and Bynum still have some work to do and may not be able to handle a young and healthy Dwight Howard. fisher wont keep up with rafer. if the lakers really expect to beat us, they will need bynum and gasol to step up in the paint. because so far neither one hasn't been a dominated force in the paint that would steer away the opposing team from driving to the paint.

ORL beat LAL on the 2nd game of the Lakers back to back games both times and both teams were a different team than they are now. I think LAL got better since then. They adjusted really well this last series and are in sync exactly when they need to be. I just hope ORL does make those 3's so the games are close. I can't wait!!

If Orlando is making there 3's and playing good d on Kobe the games won't be close, Orlando will blow LA out. The Lakers sometimes have issues blowing big leads which Orlando can score a lot points quick. If the games are close then LA has the advantage with Kobe but Orlando is playing with a lot of confidence and they proved they can hit big shots against the Cavs. Bynum seems up and down and he better get back on d since Howard runs the court well. Boston played good d on Howard not allowing him to catch the ball close to the basket. Hopefully it's a good series which I think it will be. :fingers:

bball1011
06-03-2009, 06:52 PM
Lol LAL will not get blown out by ORL.

LAL will probably make Howard beat them straight up rather than double team him like CLE did so that there will at be some pressure for ORL to hit the 3.
There is just no comparison with CLE and LAL and just because ORL beat CLE the way they did, does not mean that's how ORL will play against LAL. Even though ORL hit 41% of their 3's, Howard dominated down low, and Lebron's team mates couldn't hit a shot in the series, it was still a close series and that alone will make things very hard for ORL against a hungry LAL team.

That's what I've been saying. They dominated in the East but that's because they benefited off horrible mismatches. Now they plan a team with a lot more length and they are going to see a lot of contested shots and even the shots that aren't contested they're going to see a 6'8+ person running at them unlike Cleveland. Only 35 points in the 1st half. I'm sure the Lakers fans think that's there great defense. Orlando is starting to make open shots now. Orlando needs to push the ball more.

Why does a rookie take the last shot? He had two chances to win this game. Good game though.

I can only imagine how pissed Kobe and Jack would be if the refs called Courtney Lee's basket good with .5 left in the game since Gasol did hit the rim/back board. I guess Orlando had there chances but the officiating still continues to be inconsistent.

He not only hit it he put his hand through the rim, but it only shook the basket a little.

Youre right because at my calculations both Dwight Howard and Hedo Turkoglu should have fouled out in the 3rd with all the elbows they throw on each touch of the ball.

Lakers showed some heart tonight and we will win the series...:tu:

He not only hit it he put his hand through the rim, but it only shook the basket a little. They replayed it and the announcers said the refs missed it. In the rule book if a defensive player hits the rim or back board during a shot then the shot is good no matter if the player misses the shot. Who knows if Gasol affected the shot by hitting the rim/back board. Majority of the time refs will not make a game changing call no matter what. Youre right because at my calculations both Dwight Howard and Hedo Turkoglu should have fouled out in the 3rd with all the elbows they throw on each touch of the ball.

Lakers showed some heart tonight and we will win the series...:tu:As I said the officiating has been inconsistent. At times they call a touch foul on Turk when Kobe pushes off but when Turk does it, it's a offensive foul. For what I saw it was nice that some touch fouls weren't called. I'm surprised they didn't call a foul when kobe got swatted by Turk.

Blah, blah...Howard went through the rim earlier to block Pau's shot with his fingers through the net and the refs clearly missed that so the Pau backboard touch on the Lee layup attempt cancels out. Howard and Hedo throw elbows and push off like crazy and they call it maybe 2 times the whole game so yea...blah, blah :p

It is about time I see other fans besides Lakers Fans. Everybody knows that the NBA corporate office wants the Lakers to win it all. The Lakers have been getting calls in the paint that should not be called. The NBA wants Kobe to be the next MJ not going to happen. I say the magic in 6, not a magic or laker fan but I like underdogs

Enjoy the lucky win last night and I know a win is a win.

It's OK, Lakers fans are always confused with nicknames. They still chant MVP for their idol everytime he's at the free throw line. Can't accept reality...

Sadly this series is over, I think it will end 4-1.

The NBA wants Kobe to be the next MJ not going to happen.

That will NEVER happen. Unless MJ goes a little too far in Denver too...

I do like Lebron and I do think he deserved the MVP award, but I started calling him Queen James after his performance and lack of leadership in the ECF. He's been crowned as "king" and "the chosen one" and all the reporters and experts are calling him better than Kobe and this is just not true. I was about to be a "witness", but I'm not a true believer yet. He has to win a championship 1st (which I thought he had a very good chance to do this year) and again show true leadership, which he didn't show in the ECF, then and only then will I call him King James again.

As for the refs, I've said it time and time again, they always make bad calls. Its not even worth blaming the refs. Its always gonna be that way. Call it luck or whatever you like, but true champions always come out on top no matter what :D

I know it doesn't matter now but I'm bored. I wasn't really blaming the refs but if it was turned around and Howard did the same thing with .5 left in the game and Kobe missed a lay up then all you LA fans would be *****ing, right? It really was a huge no call. I disagree about the Champions always come out on top. As much complaining Van Gundy did in the Cleveland series I'm surprised he hasn't done that in the Finals.

Hedo Turkoglu Big Block on Kobe - Courtney Lee's Key Miss to End Regulation. At then end the announcer said is that goal tending and Magic Johnson said no his finger got caught in the net. After seeing this is slow motion you can clearly tell the backboard moved when Gasol hit the rim.

So much hate towards the Lakers and Kobe. And when they win it this year they still won't get any love from all the haters.

Magic are losing this series because of the defense being played on Howard, he isn't even a factor and without him they have no chance at winning. Lee proved why you always want your best player taking the last shot.

Magic was a great player but he is the most biased "announcer" ever. Lee should have made that the basket moved but he still would have missed...I'll agree about Magic being the most biased announcer and that's why I had a laughing smiley after what I said. If you know for sure that Gasol didn't affect the shot at all let me know the lotto numbers. lol I think most people know when a back board is moving there is a chance it could affect the basketball. Now I'm not saying Lee missed the shot because Gasol hit the rim but regardless if that affected the shot or not the rule are the rules.

RULE NO. 11-BASKETBALL INTERFERENCE-GOALTENDING
Vibrate the rim or backboard so as to cause the ball to make an unnatural bounce.

Lee made some important shots against the Cavs and he will be a good player, he's only 23. It was a great play and you can't have the same players taking clutch shots all the time.
