View Full Version : Just renewed - how to get more texts?

Yesterday I called retentions and was offered enough that I decided to commit to a 1 yr contract. I am happy with the deal, but now I'm thinking it would be nicer to have unlimited texts or have 1000 or 1500 texts; My deal lets me add 500 texts for $1.

Since I just agreed to this contract yesterday, isn't there a grace period of 2-3 days (or more) where I am able to say that I changed my mind? If yes, then I figure I should call retentions ASAP since they might be nicer now, knowing that I could just say, forget it all, and cancel?

When I initially called, I was actually going to cancel unless I got a good enough deal. Now, of course I don't want to cancel just because I am only getting 500 texts (but I could bluff... maybe).

I don't know how important they are to me, and if I would really use them, but it would be nice to have unlimited in case down road, I meet some new chat friends or end up being away from home more. (I have MunduIM but am thinking of how SMSing would save battery, and plus if I am roaming it's better? I don't know how SMS works with roaming.)

So I am speculating, what if they offer me something where I pay $2-4 for 1000 or $4-6 for unlimited, would I want to pay the extra? Those would be pretty good offers IMO. What else might they offer me re: text packages?

Any input is appreciated.

Try echat or ecare and request if you could have free 1000 texts due to renewing your contract. So use that to your advantage. free 1000 texts is the best offer I know of.

Most people now are getting (with a little help) 1000 SMS for free and that does not require a contract extension.

Please tell me you got more than 500 SMS for adding more time? If so no offense but that is... not a good deal.

Yeah I got free Pick 3 and free Vision (well it says "Data Plus Pack" so that better be as good as Vision). I also got free 7pm. I downgraded to the Basic plan (so normally that's 9pm). Then the 500 texts for $1 option.

I don't have any kind of discounts on my plan and they seem to be more willing to give when you don't. And have been paying way too much for the last 2.5 years.

I think that's a lot to give when someone is only on Basic. (Then again, for me it's too bad I am not on a 25% discount plus the 450min plan. But I don't use many Anytime minutes besides to 3 or so numbers, and could do the Google Voice thing anyway.)

Vision was a lot more important to me than texts, but now I wish I had more so that I wouldn't have to count the texts used. And I guess I'm glad I didn't ask for more texts at the time, cuz then I would not have gotten Pick 3 probably. Maybe I can give up the 7pm and get more texts? I might see if they will do 1000 texts for $2 or $3 and might just be happy with that.

Also for many months I've hardly used my phone (for calls, or texts, or data). Just used it like most people use their prepaid. I think that makes them realize I am more likely to cancel.

I think my other post is stuck in moderation... I hope so... otherwise, I guess my browser lost it.

I saw your other posts and yeah you got out pretty good then. Free vision is semi hard to get but not TOO bad, and pick 3 is GREAT and if you call 3 people a lot it will help a lot too. For what you got the extension isnt that bad a deal.
