Heres my problem. I have two line that have free unlimited data and text messages. I called sprint a few weeks ago because I want to upgrade both my phones and they told me that I would have to get the simply everything package to use their newer phones. Is this true? Im paying $59 right now for 550 min and unlimited data and text. I really don't want to increase my bill to $130 for new phones. What do you guys suggest?

It would depend on what phones you would want.

The Pre, and the Instinct would require a diff plan

Sux to be you. This has happened to me, oh 3 or 4 times over the years. The thing that really pisses me off is that when I TEMPORARILY swapped phones to send one in for repair, Sprint on their own switched me to a new plan because the old phone couldn't have the old plan. Then when I got the phone back from repair they claimed they couldn't shift me back because.......you guessed it....that plan isn't allowed anymore. So I had to change 5 plans on 5 different lines which resulted in me getting 40% fewer minutes for the same price.

Sprint is a bunch of pirates. And if you can't make money by stealing it then you are a retard.

that's BS....unless you're trying to activate the Instinct, you should be able to add any phone you want on your account

try doing an online switch instead of doing it over the phone

Well all the phones that I want to upgrade to need the simply everything plan. Thats where I'm stuck. I already have the unlimited data and text. Why change my plan to the same thing that almost costs double.

at this point, there should only be 1 phone that is out that is restricted...that is the instinct

What the original problem probably was, is that phones with vision and power vision confused the system.

As of now, it does not matter, it is official within sprint the system will automatically know what needs to be used Power Vision or Vision depending on the phone not the SOC/Plan.

My sister had the same issue.....her old krazr on the sero plan started malfunctioning, so we took an older phone and tried to activate that phone...but the sprint rep said the plan would change since that phone is only vision capable and not power vision capable

The good news is as of this (past) Monday that should never happen again.

Sorry to hijiack this thread... but I had a similar question and was wondering where I should post it. I will be out of contract in April and I currently have the $150 credit available. I'm saving that credit for the potential new blackberries coming out in Q3 or Q4, will they make me upgrade my plan to upgrade my phone??

are you saying that now it no longer matters whether one has a Vision or a PV plan? that either kind of phone can be put on either kind of plan, that data is data? that Sprint will no longer a plan change due to data type?

Pretty much. The system now just "uses" the needed system and does not complain. Saves the reps and us in the end, a lot of trouble.

I have a rumor that I would not activate because I did not want to take my sero plan down a step.. perhaps getting stuck there with sprint not allowing a later change back up to a PV phone. Is this for sure a non issue? It wasn't something I wanted to take a chance with... thanks!

so i have an old sanyo 5600. if i bought a palm pro, touch, pre or whatever (just not an instinct), would I be able to buy the phone and then just switch it online and my plan stay exactly the same??

For the Pre, you will most likely be required to have a SEP. For the Treo Pro, Touch, etc., you won't.

Treo Pro - yes
Touch / Touch Diamond / Touch Pro - yes
Pre - no according to what sprint is currently saying

Ouch! The pre looks amazing, but honestly I don't think there is any phone out there worth losing my plan. Check the sig.

How is the Treo Pro vs the Touch phones vs the Blackberry Curve?

It really looks like this Pre is going to revolutionize Sprint since it will be better than the iPhone!
