What exactly is meant by this short of the device being in pieces?

I received a replacement device due to the original no longer provisioning correctly on the network - likely a software or OS issue.

Will I receive any fees if the casing has scratches or dings from normal wear and use?

What about deliberate markings such as engraving (ran it through a laser and etched a custom graphic)?

Damaged beyond repair basically means damage to the circuitboard, snapping the flip off, water damage.....things like that.....cosmetic things don't factor in to your coverage....and you can't get the phone replaced for cosmetics reasons as well(scratches, dents, etc.)

Cracked lcds and damaged charging ports are now considered physical damage and incur a charge of $100 or $120 to be replaced if done through service and repair even with TEP or ESRP on the line or $50 currently if replaced by Asurion. Some phones (PDA'S and smartphones) will incur a $100 deductible through Asurion starting on April 19.

Just an FYI.

The scratches and etching won't be a problem or considered DBR.

I see alot of phones come in through service and repair and just because the customer has insurance on it the customer thinks they can treat thier phone any way they want and they think it will be covered under insurance. Most of the time we will mark a damaged phone dbr if it has liquid damage or if there is damage to the board, IE dents in the board, pieces broken off the board, stuff like that.
