I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me out. I have a Sanyo M1 as well as a Sanyo SCP8400 that I would like to try and use with Alltel. Since Sprint and Alltel both use CDMA, I was wondering if anyone help me get the unlock codes for these phones? I can't be clever and try to call Sprint tech support and telling them that I need to reprogram the phones, because I haven't had service on those phones for a couple years. If anyone can help me, I'd greatly appreciate it. Feel free to respond to this post, or email me at veilofdisdain (at) gmail (dot) com

I removed the ESNs from your post ... with just those numbers someone could commit insurance fraud and you'd be screwed out of the use of your phones. Be careful. Good luck getting info on how to use your phones on Alltel. :)

Okay thanks. Well, in that case, can anyone tell me what steps I might take to try and figure it out for myself? I heard using bitpim will do the trick, but if so, how would I actually go about doing it?

Unfortunately free USB drivers for both of your Sanyos are hard to come by. Which are needed for Bitpim to work. You would need to download Sprint's Smartview programs for the mentioned phones to get the drivers needed that may work with Bitpim.
Plus, even if Alltel (now Verizon) were to accept the phones into their database the best the phones would do is voice calls and no data services nor SMS..
Alltel doesn't have any Sanyo firmware of their own to reflash the phones to make them work on their BREW data and SMS network.
Good luck.
SMS should still work(?). No data or java.

I may be wrong on this, but I don't think the MSL is the same code as what you would use to "unlock" the phone for use on another carried.
Either way, I think your best experience with Alltel/Verizon is going to be with a device they support.
Sanyo is a Sprint (and some MVNO's of Sprint) exclusive.

The MSL is needed to reprogram the phone to use on another carrier's network. The MSL is the main unlock code to do any phone programming regardless of the CDMA carrier.

Nah, SMS is tied to the network SID and NID protocols which are different for each carrier. In order for SMS to work the phones would have to be reflashed to work on Alltel's system protocols.
hmm It seems like the SID could be changed without the phone having a complete reflash. Cricket can flash Sanyo devices.

But, does SMS work afterwards????
Cricket has a open JAVA system much like Sprint's so I can see data working with a Sanyo phone on Cricket's system.
Well, I can't speak for all Sanyo devices, but SMS worked on the 9000 my neighbour flashed.

Well, if the OP wants to use Cricket he has running info to use now.
As far as Alltel goes that may be a different story tho.
I still stand by what I said earlier.

Hey everyone, thanks for all your input. Seems like unlocking the phones and finding out how limited the functionality would be with the phones on another carrier's system is going to be more of a hassle than I care for. I think I'll just stick with the alltel phones I already have. The only reason I was considering doing it was because my sprint phones are far superior to the alltel phones I have, but if I'm only limited to basically voice functionality, it probably wouldn't be worth doing. But anyway, thanks again to everyone who responded.
