Anyone else going to be watching this? Bonnie Cho is doing a live blog of the webcast. Sounds like she is hoping for some more answers on timing for the Pre too.

I doubt they will answer any release date questions with a specific date. More "buzz" than anything.

Yes, but she seems to think that there might be some more substantial news on the Pre as well today....

Just a friendly reminder that we'll be live blogging the Palm Pre Webcast here, so come back to this page at 11 a.m., PT to catch a play-by-play of the event.

guess we will find out in 2 hours.

There will be "live" coverage from the invitee's during this session. Us as the public don't have access to exactly what they have. So all you gotta do is follow the link and enjoy the "show"?? :)

No new information will be given out at all. Its a regurgitation of what was gone over in the first big presentation. Its a waste of everyone's time. First quote:

They talked about plans - but only said "Unlimited data is required". Nothing about SERO or other plans with unlimited data - just that it would be required. SEP isn't required it doesn't sound like because they made mention of business accounts being able to activate it (as long as they have unlimited data). And to my knowledge, business accounts are typically NOT SE plans.

I was hoping that would change but not expecting it. Unfortunately a others have said I am fairly certain this will kill the pre for me no matter how excited I am about the phone.

It is a nice phone but i can't see paying an additional $53 a month for something that in the long run is just a phone. And no, I am not on a SERO plan, i have the Power Pack Family 1000.

Ah well. It was a nice thought while it lasted.

Zeeshan
03-12-2009, 01:42 PM
im on a SEP and personally love it. i put my whole family on it, and if you fill all 5 lines its really quite a bargain. but i can see how it could be very expensive for an individual.

ive got all 5 lines on it for 169.99 plus 60 for the additional lines, and then a 23% corp. discount. comes to $195 a month out the door after tax. thats less than $40 bucks a line for limited minutes (which we never get through) and unlimited everything. so for me the pre being SEP only is perfect.

Sprint doesn't care. But you'll still be paying more anywhere else (well, except that sweet T-Mobile deal going on for $50 unlimited everything). But that's T-Mobile.......................

Matt

That sweet T-Mobile deal is for voice only. No data, no sms, no mms.

You want unlimited data and sms/mms with TMo it will be another $34.95 per month.

"Simply Everything is not a requirement for the #Pre."

The only thing required is a data plan. Considering that the Palm Pre consistently pulls thing from the Internet, it would be alot of overcharges if you didnt.

If you have that as an add-on to your SERO plan, I think most likely you can get a Palm Pre without changing it.

A: Host of plans within Individual, Family, and Business. Simply Everything is not required. Recommends unlimited data plan since the Pre is so connected.

I know alot of us are still holding on to old plans with added perks such as more mobile miuntes or free unlimited text messaging and/or data. But the answer was only a recommendation of the plans listed above with unlimited data.

seriously...i went and shopped other companies because my contract was up some time ago and i was thinking of switching providers...but the honest truth is that pricing does not even compare to sprints.

your money goes a long way through sprint. at least its that way for family plans. we have 5 lines, and the CHEAPEST company was tmobile, and it wasnt 3g, and it was still going to cost more than im paying for all 5 lines on my 3000 min SEP family plan.

so really, as long as the palm pre does what its supposed to, i'll have the device i want, and the service i want...so sprint will have a customer for life...i mean i've already been with sprint since Sept. 1999, so im coming up on 10 years with them as it is...and im 26...so they are actually the only cell phone company i have EVER had..haha.

wrong.

you guys are getting the Simply everything and everything plans mixed up.

SIMPLY everything is not required..but the basic everything with data is.

In a webcast, Sprint's Director of Consumer Acquisition David Owens and Palm's Product Line Manager Matt Crowley said that the wireless plans are based on Everything Data, Sprint's unlimited data and messaging plan, and Simply Everything, Sprint's all-inclusive wireless package.

Individual plans will provide either 450 or 900 minutes with an Everything Data plan, or individuals can choose the Simply Everything option. Family plans will provide either 1,500 or 3,000 minutes with the Everything Data plan, or a Simply Everything all-inclusive plan. Businesses will be able to pool minutes, similar to current business options on Sprint's network.

Sprint also confirmed that no other Sprint wireless plans will be available to Pre customers.

Ok this is getting ridiculous.

I understand some people not wanting to stop paying their insanely cheap plans...but please understand this.

1. Sprint is a company and your $30 you are paying a month is probably not whats keeping them afloat (hence why you are not a Premiere member).

2. If you don't want to give it up...then don't. But the threats of leaving Sprint is absurd. You will not find a better deal than Sprint. Bottom line. So why on earth would you leave? Spite?

Anyway, I have a corp. Simply Everything account and i'm a premiere member so I get my phone discount in July instead of next year July which is nice. I'll be picking this up then.

I think this is correct. It's the same with the Instinct isn't it?

You know I was thinking.... all their plans are called "Everything" now. Maybe that's why they're saying that, cuz it's based on what they currently offer. So we don't really know if it'll work on an older plan that has unlimited data or not.

as of this moment we can assume that the following plans will work:

Individual plans:
450 or 900 minutes with an Everything Data plan
Simply Everything

Family plans:
1,500 or 3,000 minutes with the Everything Data plan
Simply Everything

as for the disclaimer about the data overage, i am guessing it refers to the business side.

Anyone who honestly thought that they could use some old plan with 10 different freebie perks added on to it is nuts. Of COURSE its gonna require a Everything Data plan! Sprint would be stupid if they didn't do that. Its gonna be just like the Instinct. I am sure the new $60 Everything Plus plan will work with it, but not the $30 SERO and not some other old plan from 2002.

I would also expect a June release for the Pre. Its not ready yet, and I dont see it being ready til June. Even in June, it will launch with at least 1 or 2 known issues/bugs I bet. You dont want Sprint to rush this at all. Thats just a bad idea.

All this talk about what plan is required to have the phone is as useless as the posts that say "My friend who works for sprint says the Pre will be out in the middle of March". The phone is NOT out, Sprint obviously has no clue of an exact launch date otherwise they would be advertising the hell out of it and since the phone is not out they have not released what plans it will work on. I don't know about this plan crap anymore. I'm just glad I don't have to worry, and feel sorry for all who have to. :(
What I am paying:
1000 Anytime Minutes $50.00
Sprint Unltd Power Vision Pack (2 lines)
Unlimited Text Messaging (2 lines)
500 SMS MESSAGES (2 lines)
Add a Phone $10.00
Monthly Plan Cost $60.00

What I should be paying
1000 Anytime Minutes $50.00
Sprint Unltd Power Vision Pack (15 each for 2 lines)
Unlimited Text Messaging (20 -- family texting)
Add a Phone $20
Monthly Plan Cost $120

Everything Data Family/Share 1500 --- $170 for 4 lines

at this point in time..that's a $110 jump. if wasn't getting the discounts, it would be $50.

only thing i can do is get a new line on my own and pay $70...instead of the $110.

Have you tried the SERO Family plans? Providing that they actually do work with this phone?

my gf has the $30 sero plan..i wonder if i can get it switched to the family plan and add a line. hmm.

the instinct works with the everything plus plans right? so i am guessing the pre should also.

If you watched/read the webinar carefully, it does not sound like, as of now, they are going to force certain plans with this phone. It's still possible they decide to, but it was clear to me, at least, that they were not committed to the idea of going the Instinct route.

So am I going to need to change my plan or not?

We have a Free and Clear 6000 Minute Business Plan which we will not change. We are nto charged for any of the additional lines, unlimited text is 5.00, among many other low fees or no fees at all.

I'd say for the most part, you should be thinking that you'll need to change your plan. Like I always say, Prepare for the worse, hope for the best

there is no way my brother will change the plan...even the customer service reps tell us not to when we call for stuff.....we only pay 320.00 a month for 7 lines and an unlimited data card....6000 minutes, 7pm nights, unlimited text on every line for 30.00 total, and free roaming. So is it safe to assume that I cannot get the Pre?
