i just fount this on Palmpreblog.com

i thought it was too cool, i could not resist sharing as i did not see this on here yet. the last paragraph cinched the deal for me, completely

"New Location Aware Palm Pre Features Revealed
Roger McNamee of Elevation Partners, who invested 20 percent of his private equity fund in Palm, has revealed some pretty cool new location aware features that come as standard with the Pre.

The first thing he mentioned is that it “does stuff for you,” which in this case he used the calendar as an example; McNamee said that when you wake up in the morning, it will have already had a look at your calendar and downloaded things such as maps and Wikipedia entries for the people, places and organisations you are going to visit for the whole day, all in advance without you having to do anything other than turn the setting on. Wow, pretty cool, right?

It gets better!

It knows when you are going to be late. No, seriously. Using the Pre’s GPS, Clock and Calendar functionality, the device will check the calendar to see where you are supposed to be and at what time - it will then check where you actually are (i.e, 5 miles away from where you are supposed to be) and then warn you that you are going to be late, calculate roughly how late you are going to be, and email all of the involved parties to let them know you’ll be however minutes late. Awesomeness."

That's so bad ass.

That stuff was already known a while ago but yea...that function is pretty good. Too bad I'd be using my Pre for personal use and not business but I'd still play around with that function.

Nice business feature....but I can see it now.... Palm's CEO starts adding up all the bells and whistles their offering... and ching ching ching...there goes the $$$. Can't see this being good to the average phone buff unless you have deep pockets...There's a lot more here than i will ever need, or want to use, or want to learn how to use.

What? You didn't get my automatic email I was going to be late for our wedding?

is this a feature the phone will do automatically out of the box, or is it a subscription or added monthly fee to be able to use? like the turn by turn gps sprint has or sprint tv?

i think its outa the box, but i'd imagine an everything plan would be required...just my guess tho

I find it suspect that this guy is the only place we have heard of these features. We haven't heard anyone anywhere else discuss this in any demonstration.

In my experience, listening to him is very much like listening to someone that just left a meeting about "planned features we hope we make some day".

the way th article reads there is no extra charge, minus needing internet connection. it says you can turn the feature on or off.

as far as believing the source, all I did was copy and paste it from the website I put right at the top of the post. go there and check it out. I have no idea. but is is a great concept, I don't know how often I will use it, but I know once I do I will not be able to live without it.

Pretty sure Engadget or Gizmodo or some other techie site listed those features before so it wasn't new news to me.

Sounds like it's a cool feature if you need it...

Really? If this is true, I would want to turn some of features off... Will it make up an excuse for me being late as well?
I hope our excuses match up when I get there.. :)

^x2 hope there's some customization allowed....There's almost a hint of a privacy issue on that one. If 'm going to be less than 5 minutes late big deal....maybe if I could set it so that it could alert people if I'm over 30mins late.....or perhaps have one of those "notification reminders" pop-up and give me the option to send the email out or not.

If I'm meeting jane, joe, john, jessie, jim, julia, and jeremy for drinks at 10, and they're all there, and I'm 15 minutes late......they're probably not going to care....and might just think its a little arrogant of me when they all get emails at 10:01 announcing "his lordship will be delayed"

privacy issue... in theory this phone could also alert you (or someone else) when you are speeding...lol...

lol... "his lordship has arrived." emails too. soon you will have no friends willing to meet you for drinks...

Scenario1
personX: "Um, the.traveller, that was a pretty weird text you sent me last night"
the.traveller: "I never sent you a text last night"
personX: "ugh, yea....you know about how you had feelings for me"
the.traveller: "look I'm married...why would...."
personX: "well it came from your phone so...."
the.traveller: "maybe my phone as a thing for your phone...."
personX: "that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard in my life!"

Scenario2
the.traveller: "WOW, did you see that dunk, lebron james just POSTERIZED dwight howard, I'm going to use that as my background pic on my phone
................2 days later, the phone rings.............
the.traveller: "hello"
lebronjames: "yea, um.....i was just notifed that you've got a picture of me on your phone that I haven't received any royalties for..."
nbacommissioner: "that picture is the property of the nba and cannot be copied or rebroadcasted without the expressed written consent ...."
the.traveller: "oh snap"

Edit: Just to clarify, I actually LIKE the feature...I'm just making fun of the possibilities...ie. the personifcation of the PRE in Scenario1 and it's quest to find love, and also it acting as a stool pigeon in Scenario2.....

I love the phone, just wondering what other features/possibilities it's capable of.
Of course it can't read your thoughts.
yet.
