Just noticed that Sprint has updated their website to now show the Palm Pre's specs. http://now.sprint.com/pre/
These specs are on Palm's website, but haven't been on Sprint's site until now, so let's hope that this is a sign that the Pre will be released soon. Goodness knows we've been biting our nails and wondering when we'll actually get our anxious hands on a Pre. I'll have to wait until June 'cuz that's when I qualify for an upgrade discount!
And there IS some new information for us:
7.4GB will actually be available from the 8GB included, possibly implying the size of the OS is somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 megs or so (though it's still unclear what the relationship between the 8GB of storage and RAM will be, and whether or not the Pre will use Program Memory RAM/Storage ROM/Mass Storage like Windows Mobile or have a simpler RAM/Storage setup like other phones).
Also, MMS is CONFIRMED. So is Phone-as-modem via bluetooth or USB tethering. Yes!!

If you read the fine print at the bottom it says "Requires activation on everything plan with data" but then the next sentence states cost of data without data plan. Not sure that clears anything up on the SEP requirements

They would probably push the SEP for the phone, but not require it.
Does that make sense?
In other words, new customers would get SEP, and old customers would just have to add a data plan if they didn't want SEP.

IMO, if this is a web-centric phone, it only makes sense to have an unlimited data plan.
All I can say is that having the $99 SEP has really reduced my Sprint bill. A LOT.

And it would more than triple others' bills. Savings is ALL in the eye of the beholder!

50 megs is not used for the storage of the os. an time you purchase any storage device the advertised capacity and actual capacity are always different. Just for comparison The 8GB Iphone only has 7.4GB of storage as well.
Here's a link to someone who can explain it better than I can http://forum.pcmech.com/showpost.php?p=833171&postcount=1

50 Megs?? How do you figure 8 - 7.4 = 50 Megs? The remaining .6GB = 600 Megs. Come on people...basic math
But to be exact its 614.4 MB since 1 GB is 1024 MB

or he was actually using that table (8GiB ~7.45GB - 50MB = 7.4GB)
oh the joys of drive makers NOT using powers of two

Yes, and that would literally triple the cost for me. I don't use more than 300-400 min/month, and mostly just data/txt msg. If I did get a new plan, I'd go with the cheapest SEP and use my corp discount (28%) which would still leave me $22 over what I pay today for more minutes.
Is no one here frugal anymore?

You are absolutely correct!
Where I saved huge was with my daughter's line ... 5,000 texts a month were costing me big time! Don't these kids ever talk to each other???? ;)
Now for me, it's 5,000 minutes a month ... Can't I ever text anyone??? :p
To each his own on their plans ... find one that works and use it. That's why we have choices.
I still can't wait to get this phone. I so want to go back to Palm.

I understand completely. Before I switched to SEP, my bills were $600 to $700 per month. Today, $250 (damn taxes!)
Now, how do I get that 28% discount? That would be truly sweet for me!

I don't see anything going to the fine print that looks like it requires SEP

Isn't this thread supposed to be about the Specs being posted? There is already a SEP thread for the Pre.
