Anyone out there giving up on waiting for the pre to drop?
I've been sitting here waiting for the pre hoping it would be the answer to all my dreams and well...LOL I caved in....I ended up just buying a vaio ultraportable to tether my htc touch to while i'm away from home.
I had to pay full price for a pre so I was looking at 600-700$ anyway. :( Knowing my luck the pre will drop 2/15 LOL!!
I'll still end up picking one up, just probably not on launch day.:headbang2

The buzz and hype are definitely dying down quite a bit. I haven't seen anything on here lately. Maybe I can figure out a way to make my old Treo 700wx work and not spend any money to buy the Pre. The longer I wait, the more rational I might get...
Come on and announce something real already. You've given us a month at this point, and the "coming soon" has been on the website way too long...
Nope, I'm good on everything but a phone. Need to upgrade this Instinct. Lucky I just RMA'd the last one, so, this one should last until the Pre comes out. I hope =p

They said first half of 2009, it could be June 30 or April 28.
Who knows for sure?
I am anxious as anyone but I can wait another 4 months (then again, ask me that in June if it isn't out by then, lol).

Yeah but I've seen a few places that state 2nd half of 2009 now. Then again there is so talk about it starting to get stocked in warehouses in march...
I think there has definetly been a decline in posts on the topic probably b/c since everything has been said, there's not much more to post about. No price info, no release info, no plan change info no nothing.
Unfortunately it sounds like the answer to those last 3 points are, A lot, Late, & SEP which is strikes One Two and Three for me.

would be nice if palm could drop some breadcrumbs of reassurance for those like me who are feeling the withdrawls set in.
"can't give someone an ounce of crack then string em out to suffer when they want more. that's just wrong in so many ways.

Yeah, but until the 755p stock is exahusted, no Pre.
I really feel it's going to be May. The 700p and 755p each came out in May.
That's my gut hunch.

I don't like waiting any more than the next guy... but shoot, look at it as an opportunity to build some patience. We have really become an instant-gratification society.

I dont think this is a factor, everybody @ sprint knows that this could be the savior and if it is in stocke and cleared for release then just pull 755 until pre stock is gone, put it back on the shelf as a place holder, until more come in.... also they could always ship out all their 755p stock to resellers

I talked to a Sprint phone rep who said that it will be released around the 14th or 15th of February and the Treo Pro will be released shortly before or shortly after the Pre's release. He said that they aren't informed about the release of new products until it is within 30 days of the product's release. In other words, they wouldn't have known when it was going to be released in January. But now that the release date is nearing, they were given a pretty good estimate from upper management about the actual release date. If it isn't going to be February, Sprint is going to lose a lot of anxious customers wanting to get a new advanced phone.

The EOL date of 3/15 helps, but so did the widely rumored date of 2/15 to whet my appetite. I doubt Sprint will be able to get rid of their entire 755p stock to be able to release the Pre at a decent time. Realistically, I can see Sprint releasing the Pre before all the 755p's are gone and selling those Treos at a significantly discounted price.
Personally, I haven't given up waiting on the Pre (its only been a month or so). My frustration is the very little news we've heard about the Pre as well as the possible delay in its release date (from 2/15 to 3/15).
I'm a pretty thrifty person, so I don't jump from phone to phone too frequently. I wait until my 2 year contract is up, then I switch phones. I initially was going to get a Centro (back in October, when I was OOC) but heard about the the Treo Pro, so I decided to wait for that. But then heard about the Pre. I've been sitting on my out of contract status for about 4 months now, first waiting for the Treo Pro, and now waiting for the Pre. I was so set on getting the Pre on 2/15, but now that's changed. So now I'm waiting until 3/15. I also wouldn't be completely surprised if they pushed the release date back one or two more times. I am really hoping it doesn't though :fingers:. I'm getting tired of waiting and I want a new phone!

They don't need to get rid of their stock of 755p's before 3/15. That's not how EOL works.
EOL means the phone won't be offered anymore, anything left in stock will still go for sale, and will even be discounted. They did this with dumb phones.. And even with the Q9c too. You'll even see on Sprint.com, sometimes they'll have a "blast from the past" for sale, just to get rid of stocks.
This in no way will hinder their goal of a 3/15 launch.

With all the bad news I've been hearing about the economy and layoffs... it sure would be nice to hear some great news about a new product's successful sales and a company's HUGE sudden comeback/boost in the mobile market. I know I'm being overly optimistic, but I hope that this phone will not only generate huge numbers in sales but also bring Palm's lineup of new WebOS phones to the next level - which will generate more jobs in hardware, software development, manufacturing (hey someone's gotta put the things together), marketing, and customer service. 600,000 lost jobs in January alone is very sad.

right now my hope is on the 3/15 date which is probably why sprint said first half of 09 since the data falls close to early Q2. so if there is any delay they can still claim it was still on time..instead of saying Q1, then saying Q2.

Oh and one more thing, They can't push a release date back, if they never officially announced a release date to begin with. Thus the reason they gave such a broad 6 month time frame. BUT, with that being said, you're statement could hold water if they push it past "1H, 2009". :)

I have a hunch it will come sooner than later as it is always on the Sprint homepage. When the Instinct was advertised, it didn't take too much longer for it to be released. Either way I will wait as long as I have to because I have no problem with my current phone :)

I would think they would announce a release date a month before its set to release to give them some time to stir up hype again. 2/15 release date has (for all intents and purposes) come and past. Its my own fault for, not so much believing, but hoping the rumors to be true in the first place. I agree with the original poster - the excitement I had when it was announced has faded considerably as I'm not hopeful we will hear anything about it for a while. I'll still probably end up getting one whenever it comes out - I just won't be as excited or feel like I HAVE to have it on the release date. If I have to wait for 3,4,5 months, I might as well let the first adopters get theirs and read-up on all of the drawbacks of the phone (and there WILL be some) to see if I'm willing to deal with them. What's another week after 5 months?
Although, nothing I see in 2009's line-up (or have heard about) really interests me all that much - I'm just kind of *meh* about the whole situation.

I think I'm going to go to my local department store, try and find some crazy sales clerk named Morty that I can buy the Ultimate Remote from and just fast forward my life to the day the Pre is released :thought:

Lol! I would skip to the day before,so I can start an argument with my wife so I wouldn't feel that bad when I take her debit card and buy the phone with her check

Giving up on it already? Not I. If they said it would be out by mid-February, maybe I would give up (but probably not even then, really). But they said first half of 2009 and we're only halfway through the 2nd month of the year. I typically don't give up on things just because I want them before they're available. For me, the longer it takes for it to come out the better... to me that means they're taking the time to get things right and, you know, finishing design and production, period. I'd rather they did that than rush it to feed the desires of all of us waiting for it, and deliver us a buggy phone. In the long run that would do more harm than good.

I guess i'm just not like everyone here, I actually enjoy tinkering with stuff. I love having the latest and greatest now and then spend the next coming months flashing, upgrading, tinkering etc.
Each time I unlock a new feature, or fix a broken one it feels like i'm getting a new phone all over again.
Well what's another 2 months anyway :)
Here's to the wait. :Puter::boohoo:

Actually, you're just like everyone here. We all love doing these things (that's why we're members of this forum). But you can't tinker with the latest and greatest if it's not even out yet. I think all we're saying that we're not giving up on the phone just because it's not available yet.

I'm waiting...
My contract was up last week. If I'm going to spend the next two years of quality time with a phone, and the Pre is coming anytime soon. I'll sit tight.
I just saw a mention of "waiting lists"!!! Is this a set number of initial releases per location or what?

I have a hunch it will come sooner than later as it is always on the Sprint homepage. When the Instinct was advertised, it didn't take too much longer for it to be released.
Instinct was four months from announcement. it was on the home page and previewed fro four months.
If anything nothing more close resembles the instinct launch than the pre launch. Unlike 99% of handsets they wee both announced at huge industry events with the the top executives of the maker and carrier in aj oint announcement. At teh Instinct announcement Heses followed the Samsung presentation immediately noting ARPU and "everything plans," exactly like pre There were allusions to iphone like with Pre.
I am not saying it will be exactly the same, but nothing so far has been different than the Instinct.
The release of the Instinct depends on factors neither Palm nor Sprint fully controlled. there is no release date, there is a window. almost always releases are toward the end of window if not past it. I think anyone expecting to get this phone before april or may is kidding themselves. it may happen but it is unlikely.

Ummm.. Just look at he history going back years -- and no need to be rude when somone is point out a historic fact. I that been pointed out by others like on Treo central and sprint employees with long histories. :)
