Will it have built in exchange support for outlook mail/calendar like iPhone 3G?
I had to switch from Palm to WM because of this.

Why did you switch? Palm handles exchange support. And so does the new WebOS.

Out of the box, or with 3rd party apps?
I know my 755p did not handle exchange out of the box. My understanding is you get some kind of push for email with 3rd party apps, but not for calendar and contacts.

I don't use it, but i'm pretty sure my centro handles exchange. I don't know why the 755P wouldn't. I could be wrong though because I don't use it.

The Centro and the 755p both handle exchange. I have used them both.

Gee, I hope it does not handle it like the iPhone does, cuz I don't like how the iPhone does it.

The Centro and the 755p both handle exchange. I have used them both.Yes, but neither does Exchange very well. There are all kinds of limitations to Centro and 755p support. Current WM phones have much better Exchange support.

Let's see if I can do this without coming off as an anti-Apple person...
screw it--The iPhone is HORRENDOUS at Exchange...
I know several people that complain about late emails... and little quirks about the calendar and whatnot...
Hell, the Exchange support doesn't even support folders in the inbox. WHAT? Who doesn't have multiple folders in their inbox? Pretty much everyone does-and most have auto-sorting rules/etc...
To me, the iPhone Exchange support is a joke, and I have my fingers crossed that Palm got it right this time--or I am staying with WM.
The fact that they repeatedly mentioned that if a contact is not found in your local contact list, that it searches your company directory--is VERY promising to me, because that shows a more solid integration of Exchange.
I wish Palm would release some more examples of email/Exchange use, so we can get a better idea of what it can do...

Really, Windows products are the only ones that really support Microsoft services. The Outlook Web Access in my office is much worse with Firefox than IE. I had to download the IE Tab add-on to make it worth using. Microsoft really doesn't play nice with others.

I found Exchange 2003 in our environment looks and works the same on Firefox and IE. The rendering by Firefox is a bit cleaner too.

Uh, I had extra folders for Exchange on the iPhone - which was the problem. I have all of these RSS feeds in Exchange that I DIDN'T want on the phone and I had no way to correct it - no way to exclude or include certain folders. I could care less about copy & paste, but really miss not being able to do landscape in email. But, alas, ATT signal was crap in my house so the iPhone went back after just 2 short days.

Last I had heard from iPhone owners, is it had issues reading subfolders within Exchange.
Perhaps they have fixed that problem. Also, they were having issues synching contacts, tasks, and calendar entries--and searching the company directories...

Apple and Microsoft are competitors......not collaborators. So it doesn't REALLY surprise me that the iPhone's compatibility with MICROSOFT Exchange is limited and horrible. It appears that Palm may be slightly more on the collaborator side of the fence with Microsoft than the competitor side. Clearly Palm is competing with Windows Mobile - just seems like they don't hate each other as much as Apple and MS do.

Oh I agree. I could see Palm potentially getting access to all sorts of stuff that Microsoft/Apple cannot due to rivalry.
Although, everyone has their price. Microsoft licenced ActiveSync to Apple for the iPhone.

so has anyone actually seen anything from Palm on how Exchange will work with the Pre?

Nothing other than the CES demos--which did not specifically show any Exchange stuff.. (could have been, but it was not explained.)
We just have to wait and see--but from what I hear, even Palm OS played nice with Exchange...

This is what I am afraid of. Owning a 755p and a Centro - that is not exchange support.

Regarding Exchange ActiveSync, the article at http://arstechnica.com/hardware/news/2009/01/ars-talks-to-palm-gets-under-the-hood-with-the-pre-ces-2009.ars quotes Matt Crowley, Product Line Manager of Palm as saying:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The device supports over-the-air Exchange ActiveSync for contacts, email, calendar, and tasks. "We use EAS at Palm, so we live and breath and eat it." For Google, you can get calendar, address book, email, and Gtalk. For Facebook, you can get your calendar and address book.

There are videos and information out there about MSExchange, yes the Pre has FULL Exchange support. WebOS gives you desktop capabilities.

Are regular notes synchronized wirelessly? I never saw that to be the case...
I think OneNote syncs with ActiveSync over USB, but nothing wirelessly... maybe I have just never set it up right...

Are regular notes synchronized wirelessly? I never saw that to be the case... I've seen it work on a Mogul: Exchange/Oulook sync with mail, calendar, tasks and notes. I've also done it myself on Palm OS with Moxi's beta exchange sync product.

I'll be damned... I just checked, and it even does notes...
Just never used it--since I have an SD card :)
Well hopefully Palm thinks of all these common-sense issues.

I'm looking into getting a hosted Exchange Server account with SherWeb to handle syncing of my Contacts, Appointments, Tasks, and Notes between my multiple computers and my phone.
Can I setup my account to only sync Contracts, Appointments, Tasks, and Notes to my phone and everything to my computers?
I do not read emails on my phone.

Probably you can select what parts you want synchronized. I can on my WM phone for sure.
