[Pre] Notification Light

Based on the end of this video (http://www.palm.com/us/products/phones/pre/index.html#video), it looks like the main button might be an LED notification light. If it's not, I sure hope they have some sort of notification light somewhere else on the phone. Most, if not all, recent Palm devices have had one, so I don't see why the Pre would be any different.

The LEDs in the gesture area could be used for notifications.

I really hope the Pre has a notification LED. That's one of the features I'd miss leaving my Blackberry.....

There are two lights on the sides of the gesture area to give some feedback when you're using it. I don't know if there's actually a notification light in the button itself or anything besides that though... besides the fact that's just a render.

I feel like if the center button lit up for notifications they'd have shown it already, though that wasn't final hardware, and it could just not be finished yet.

-No indicator light (that we’ve seen, though one of those lights in the gesture area might do this, but I wouldn’t count on it)

Anyone know if there will be a way for you to see if you have messages/missed calls, etc without turning the screen on?

I personally find indicator lights a nuisance so if the Pre is sans indicator light I won't be disappointed.

After using a Treo, the misuse of the LED on the Centro (not displaying notification for missed calls, voicemail, etc) is my biggest complaint with the phone. I'd be disappointed if the Pre also lacks this feature.

Yes, the Pre establishes a telepathic link to your brain and screams "YOU HAVE ONE MISSED CALL" over and over until you check it.

How about an indicator light that is customizable to the individual user? That would be something AMAZING. Could it be something similar to the HTC Touch Diamond perhaps?????

As I mentioned in this thread, http://sprintusers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=181012, the video (which is now a totally different video and no longer shows the center button glowing at the end) made it look like the center button could also have an LED notification light. I think this would be perfect.

Personally, I think all phones should have notification lights (with the option of disabling them). However, for some reason I think this will be a feature that is lacking on the Pre.

I would like an indicator light, but I have to have the ability to turn it off! It would be very annoying if i get a text in the middle of the night and the light just kept flashing.. On the other hand, I won't be too disappointed if there was no indicator light..

I just want the phone!!!

it'll most likely be integrated with the center button, and you can see on some videos that there are several more lights to the sides of the center button to show when you're doing a gesture. i'm sure that if it's not included at launch eventually someone will make these act as indicators

With Palm's focus on non-obtrusive notifications, I have a feeling that it either won't have indicators, or will be easily turned off.

I see two options for notifications:

1) Turn on the main screen, or section of the screen, (this would not be as power-hungry as you think, if they can light individual sections with LEDS. Hey it's a possibility.)

2) Use the gesture area. Why not? They are there. Different patterns could mean different things... random movement = voicemail, moving outwards = text, etc...

Update to the new software version CA10...now when u get a text messages the hard keys flash...one of the maintence fixes...if instinct can do it may be Palm can..gesture area below the screen sounds like the way to go. It should flash like Kitt's(knightrider car) front LED does.

I still think the best option is to have the center button be an LED notification light. It would be even better if it could do multiple colors like my old Sanyo 4500. It was so awesome to have different color notification lights for calls/voicemail/texts.

wow, I didn't know they did this.. Hmm, See, Now I want the instinct back again, damnit.. But I keep thinking, if I waste the cash on the Instinct now, I know i'm going to use it to level the legs on my table when the Pre comes out, so why not just save the cash.. but it's sooo tempting lol

Anyways, I think with SDK soon to be available to everyone after launch, not just retailers, etc.. That someone will come out with a program, if Palm doesn't.

The Instinct upgrade that has allowed for the blinking indicator is really cool.
