i just read about that my curiosity is how smooth would the wimax evdo handoffs be my guess is they would sever the connection and possibly require a reconnect which is kinda lame but livable

To my understanding it will be a seamless transfer, just like 1X and EVDO.

I just read an article on CNET about it and thought I'd poke my head in here and see there was any mention of it. I'd love to try this baby out. But... I just signed up for EVDO Rev A 3G access with my Sierra 597. This device would be perfect for those waiting for Xohm to arrive. I live just outside the range of a local WiMax tower (near the Mall in Columbia, MD).

For anyone interested, here is the link for the video of the speed tests they did between 3G and 4G. http://link.brightcove.com/services/link/bcpid1243645856/bctid5071348001
From what I watched 4G got speed well above 6mbps/2mbps NOw thats AWESOME!
Can someone post some pricing info for the 4G?

From DSLReports -
Sprint this morning announced that they'll be unveiling a dual mode 3G/4G modem on December 21, giving users the opportunity to access either Sprint's EVDO or Mobile WiMax networks. The U300 will retail for $149.99 after a $50 rebate, if you're willing to sign a two-year contract. Of course you'll have to go to Baltimore to really make use of it, since that's the only market that's seen a commercial launch of Sprint's XOHM mobile WiMax service (though Chicago, Boston, Dallas, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Northern Virginia are online and in testing). Oh, you'll also need to shell out $79.99 a month if you want access to both networks.

So what's going to happen for those of us on the 3G SERO data plan? Will we be able to keep our plan and use 4G speeds if we acquire one of the dual band cards or will we need to upgrade our plans as well?
If we can't use the faster speeds... this new 597 will be going right back to the store. I'm not going to lock into a 3G contract for two years when WiMax will probably be in my area within the year. And then I would be forced to upgrade my plan from $49.99 to $79.99 or cancel my contract if I don't want to continue on the slower speeds.

I'm still convinced that WiMax is going to be the carrot that they try to use to lure all the legacy SERO customers onto more expensive plans. It's comforting that we're already getting 3.5G speeds without issue and without being pushed onto a new plan, though.
Hopefully I'm wrong, though. If there's one thing I love to be, it's wrong about Sprint trying to squeeze more cash out of me.

Hmmm very interesting...
Maybe someone could help a newbie on this, I have an old SERO plan with (of course) unlimited data. Could I buy one of these and use it with no extra charge? If I was charged would it be very much?
Thanks ahead, any info at all much appreciated!

You could use it for the 3G but not for 4G

Thnx,
hmmm almost seems too good to be true. I'd love to find something to replace the expensive comcast cable, that had decent speed. Doesn't seem to be much other options.
Did check the website and these things have esn's. So I'm guessing there *may* be some difficulty doing an online swap to one... Anyone done that and used it on their power vision plan without issues?

I went to http://3g.sprintshops.com and called in to see if they could get the U300...they said they could and that the service will be 47.99 a month. I haven't pulled the trigger, as I'm waiting to see how far the service expands.
