Joined sprint about 34 months ago. Haven't made any changes since original account setup, so past 10 months have been out of contract. I have 3 lines, 550 Shared Plan ($60) w/ third line ($10) and Power Vision 40MB ($25)for $95 before fees and taxes.
I plan to get the Touch Pro, possibly at Best Buy on Sunday. My wife will be getting her first smartphone. My mother-in-law will remain with a basic clamshell for voice only.
I'm seeing that the SEP for two lines is $130, and then I need a third line for $20. Increasing monthly bill by $55 is a little painful, espcially when my wife will use data rarely and my mother-in-law never. And we will never use 1500 minutes, we don't even use up our 550 minutes. But I don't see any other way to get all the data features on the Touch Pro and retain a shared plan for the other lines. Any leverage on plan pricing when out of contract? Earlier in the year I got a 10% off card in the mail every month, but they stopped coming.
I've seen mention of a $70 credit/line when out of contract, but some say only main line, others say all lines. Some say you have to call first before upgrading, some say they will do it after. It makes sense that they have no incentive to give you the credit if you've already upgraded and locked yourself back in. But if I renew contract first, then my isn't my leverage gone on phone and plan discounts?
The other sticking point is I don't know yet what phones my wife and mother-in-law are getting. My mother-in-law will be out of town this weekend, so she can't be there to pick one. I'd like to get the Pro at BB and use the 20% off promotion for reward zone members, then take the ladies to the sprint store later and get their new phones. On the other hand, when we signed up initially, they gave us a pretty good deal on the phones since we were getting three at once. I think theirs were supposed to be $50 each but they gave us one free.
In the end, I'm just looking to use whatever leverage I have right now to take some of the sting out of the upgrade. I'm looking at $300 for a TP, $200-$250 for whatever my wife gets, and $0-$50 for mom. Then a hefty increase in monthly bill. Not sure whether to spring for the TP at BB now, or wait until I can get it thru the store and do all 3 phones at once. Not sure what to do about the $70 renewal credit. And with all the different deals people seem to get, what else I might be able to do.
So, for those of you who know more about this than I do... how would you proceed if you were me?
TIA !
