I know what U saying....I had that problem as well. What U can also try is....launch INSTANT MESSAGING on ur phone...and log into ur Yahoo pager. Once u do that...Ur status will show as "Im mobile" on pager list of ur friends. And u can send and recieve IMs just like u wld on ur PC.

Hope that helps.

Then u might wanna give this a shot...follow the instructions....this way u can have ur status as "mobile" and not incur charges.

If accessing yahoo IMs is giving an error that "sprint is not supported", I was trying to help with an alternative...which worked for me. Thats all!

Was just trying to be helpful !!

sooo when you click on yahoo messenger, and click sign into mobile device and put your sprint number, it takes it ?? and if someone sends you a yahoo message, you get a text on your phone????

K let me clarify a bit here:

1) When u try signing ur no. on yahoo, it says "sprint is not accepted carier at this point of time".

2) You can achieve the same thing that u wld by signing ur no. with yahoo....ie. send / recieve IMs by 2 sep. ways.

Method A - Sign into "Instant Messaging" from phone...and it will change ur status on yahoo for ur friends to "Im Mobile". That needs a Data plan OR extra cost can be incured.

Method B - If u dont have data plan and yet want to achieve the same thing...which is recieve and send Ims from ur yahoo friends...U can use SMS to IM and vice versa....and for that I posted the above link. And that wont have additional data charge ASSUMING u have Free texting in ur plan.

That was the whole idea of suggesting the above route. I understand the moot issue was "can u put sprint no. on yahoo or not"....but I went an extra mile...cuz i also was in the same boat a few months back and this is all what I found out.

Was just trying to help here to achieve the goal to be able to IM w/ friends.

Cheers!

method A - the poster already told you that he does not have a dataplan, and wants to know how to do this without one ( and for someone like me, my treo doesnt have "instant messaging" - so even with a dataplan, i do not have that option, but would like to text with my yahoo friends list when i am mobile )

Method B - "use SMS from the link you posted" - yahoo does not support sprint and you will get the same message "your carrier is not supported"
(yes i went and tried to make sure it still says that) not sure how you are using this Method, but glad going the extra mile has made it work for you .. perhaps you should share you secret with the rest of us ???

Yes - The poster told me he does not have a data plan. The reason I typed all the options was because someone else suggested that the intent of the post was wether u can sign into yahoo using ur sprint no. or not. And that's why I elaborated my extra mile.

Also I am assuming.... u missed the link posted by me above. Let me help u.
================================================== ========
1) Signing in from your phone:

Using text messaging, address a text (SMS) to: 92466

A) Then, text: in [Yahoo! ID] [password]. Do not include brackets
example: If your Yahoo!ID is chatsalot77 and your password is 123456, your text should read: in chatsalot77 123456.

B) Your contacts will now see you as mobile

2) Receiving and replying to a message

A) Your Yahoo! Messenger for SMS messages will look like any other text message. The number 1110440003 is just a sample number. Your number will vary.

B) Select Reply and type your message

C) Click send/OK

3) Initiating a message

A) Send an instant message to your Yahoo! Messenger contacts using their Yahoo! ID. To begin, address a text message (SMS) to: 92466

B) Type: to [Yahoo! ID] [message]

Example: If your contact's Yahoo!ID is johndoe85 and your message is hello john, your text should read: to johndoe85 hello john.

C) Click Send/OK

================================================== ===

Hope that helps...and yes...the above instructions and examples is assuming that the poster has free texting in his/her plan. (as the poster hasnt mentioned that clearly in the post)

Cheers!

hmmm it doesnt exactly work

i have 2 IDs xxxx1 and xxxx2

i have xxxx1 logged into messenger on my laptop

from my phone i sent a txt to 92466 and the message was xxxx2 password

i get a text back as follows:

(Y!)
News: Buffett To Top Fortune's Wealth List
Reply 'm' for more
GOTO
http://m.yahoo.com/ and some more of a link

if i click the link, my user name and password come in in a yahoo search box with the message no results found

so then i sent another text to 92466 with message xxxx1 HI - that message has not popped up on my screen - but i did get a reply text that looks identical to above -

i then sent a message from xxxx1 to xxxx2 and i receive no text message at all

what am i missing??

It's working very fine for me....however..this is what I suggest....if u follow the link and click "How to" ...u will see the examples and real important that u put proper spacing etc...they have pictures posted on what the format should be.

Also...yes...yahoo will send u an occasional SMS which is like a spam...just ignore that. Here's that link again.....

well i dunno it must just be me - - i followed the steps exactly, and still - ALL i get is the spam reply txt from sprint .. when i look at xxxx1 on my laptop, xxx2 never shows signed in as mobile ... when i send a message from xxxx1 to the xxxx2 on the mobile, i never get a text that i have a message - - when i sent a txt ( exactly as the instrutions say ) my xxxx1 never receives a message on the laptop ...

oh well ... i have a dataplan and this prompted me to find a program to do it! so i purchased Mundu IM for 11.00 and now i can have Ymessenger and any other IM app running!

I just want to say, that I can successfully use Yahoo IMs on my Sprint phone. I don't know if it is because I signed up my number way back when I was on AT&T, and now it just works even though it is ported to Sprint or what, but "Sign into Mobile device" works just fine for me.

well you suck LOL ... just kidding - it would make sense that its because of porting - but then who knows, what ever really makes sense with sprint - lol

glad it works for someone!!

As u said u tried it with 2 Ids....one u tried signing from phone and the other was logged on ur pager, correct? Assuming that... let me ask u a few questions..

1) is ur ID on phone on ur pager list of the second ID (the one on PC) ?
2) If so...do u see ur Phone ID logging on the moment u log ur phone ID onto yahoo using phone?

That might help narrow things down.

yes - i have my 2 IDs added to each others lists
no - when i send a text to log myself in on the phone - i do not see my ID come online on the laptop messenger -

i assume that means it doesnt work lol

mundu seems to be working pretty great though - so its all good for me now - i dont have to waste text messages to yahoo lol

O well....right there seems to be a glitch...cuz the phone ID shld appear "Im mobile" right when u sign into yahoo.

Anyways...lets not waste more time since u already have a data plan and u r using mundu. On a different note...just curious...as u mentioned u paid 11 dollars for mundu?..have u tried "palringo" ? (google it, ull see it's free download).
