so based on some info in this news release (http://news.google.com/news/url?sa=t&ct=us/0-0&fp=486bc8a9245dee9d&ei=SsRrSIaqDI6aggPu5LSrAg&url=http%3A//www.foxbusiness.com/story/markets/industries/industrials/corporation-wins-contract-kyocera-corp/-271466924&cid=1225578240&usg=AFQjCNGh0AsYlJA3I9zjde1HayInBe9d3Q) it looks like we should be seeing some full QWERTY Sanyo love hopefully sooner than later. the news release talks about Kyocera licensing predictive text tech for some upcoming new handsets on the Sanyo brand. So we can speculate that said handset(s) will be heading over the Sprint way. Nothing concrete, but at least it's something to keep the dream alive.

CALGARY, ALBERTA, Jul 2, 2008 (Marketwire via COMTEX) ----Zi Corporation (TSX:ZIC)(NASDAQ:ZICA) (the "Company" or "Zi"), a leading provider of solutions for mobile search, text input and advertising, today announced that Kyocera Corporation, a leading global handset manufacturer based in Japan, has chosen Zi Corporation's eZiText and eZiType predictive text technologies for select devices within its advanced mobile phone portfolio.

This deal not only sees Zi Corporation continue its relationship with Kyocera, but also includes a license to use the award-winning eZiText and eZiType products on Kyocera's Sanyo-branded mobile handsets worldwide.

Zi Corporation will supply Kyocera with eZiText and eZiType in English, Spanish and several other languages to be implemented in the near future based on customer demand. Kyocera states that it will be integrating Zi Corporation's text entry solutions into upcoming Sanyo-branded foreign model phones with QWERTY keypads. eZiType is now considered by many to be the most advanced predictive text input solution on the market for handsets with QWERTY keypads.

"We have worked with Zi Corporation for many years and have great confidence in the quality of its text-entry solutions," said Kyocera Corp. "North America is an important market for Kyocera's Sanyo-branded handsets and we must have a robust text-entry solution. In eZiText and eZiType, we believe that Zi Corporation presents an excellent combination of advanced technology, development support and after-sale service that is a strong fit for our keypad layouts."

Since the Eclipse is real, maybe the Elite is too. This might even mean an Elite and Pro 900 could be seen, not banking on it though

well since it's keyocera that is licensing Zi, i would think we will see a qwerty sanyo. but not until keyocera has there influence in the product so it might not be sanyo quality.

I feel the same way..... sanyo may not be as good now... but that will really put sprint in a bad position if it goes down that way..

I see Sanyo falling to the wayside if quality changes, Sprint has moved on it looks like. There is no big push for Sanyo coming for thier behalf or any other ( not including the Instinct) for that matter

i wouldn't fall into the pessimism just yet. sure the sanyo mobile div has a new parent in kyocera. but it wouldn't make sense for them to kyocerify the sanyo line. it would seem to contradict them acquiring the division in the first place. one would hope that keeping the sanyo brand would also mean keeping and continuing with the sanyo quality. but until we see some new products that prove it one way or the other it's all speculation.

The last highend phone was the M1 and before that the 9K and 5600, all of them had a max shelf life of 8 months before those the 1st ptt/pic/vid phone last years before getting yanked. It's been a 2 year wait for the brand I rode with to get with it, the Eclipse is nice but I'm not waiting anymore.
