I just got my 5300, and I'm having mixed feelings.
I noticed that the screens are definately dim compared to both the A500 (My old phone), and the 8100. The 8100 appears to have the most vivid colors and bright screen out of the three. The quality of the screen on the A500 is also clear, and brighter than the 5300.
The A500 has the best led for the keypad, and I definately prefer the blue vs. the green of the sanyo.
The 8100 seems to have the best signal strength out of the three, followed by the 5300, and A500 according to the signal strength bars (I know this is relative). I compared all three phones side by side btw. The 8100 had full signal, the 5300 had full signal, but it was going in and out of service, and the A500 had 1 bar, but it was not going in and out of service.
I didn't have a chance to compare the pictures between the 8100 and the 5300 using a PC, but when looking at them on the display, the pictures from the 8100 appeared better although the 8100 has far less pixels (I think the 5300 has 310,000 vs 60,000 of the 8100). I would like to see the picture comparisons of all three on a monitor if someone can post, including the A500 using the camera attachment.
The design, I like the samsung the best out of the three. The sanyos seem kinda bulky compared to the sleak A500. The 5300 with the standard battery is thicker than my old A500 with the extended battery.
I definately like the way ringtones sound on the A500 compared to both sanyos, and I don't understand why people compalined about the vibrate strength of the A500, unless you're a female that wants to use it for other purposes... hint, hint... j/k. I never had any problems feeling the vibration when I have the phone on my holster. The vibrate strenght might be an issue if you have it in your pocket, and you wear baggy pants.
I haven't really had the 5300 long enough to compare battery life, vision performance, etc.
So far, my biggest gripe about the 5300 is the screen brightness and screen clarity.
I still haven't even connected my 5300 yet because I'm having second thoughts. Most likely, I'll end up keeping it, but now I'm wondering if I should have went for the toshiba pocket pc phone. Does anyone have experience with the toshiba?
