I am due for a new phone and have been trying to decide which one to get. I read on here that there is so post to be a Katana Eclipse phone released in the summer. Does anyone have any more info on maybe when it is going to be released? Any info on what type of phone it will be? Is it replacing one of the other Katana's?
Thanks
Annette

There is no information about it on google, only one user on these forums talks about it. I've asked him before what the eclipse was, and he never responded.
Personally I think its just bad info that was passed to him.

Hmmm, Ok. I googled it also and couldn't find anything either and so that is why I wanted to ask.
Thanks for the feedback

I was looking at an internal document for accessories we can get for phones and I found "Katana Eclipse (SCP-6750)" listed as one of the phones. Didn't seem to be there a month ago. No other information can be found on it.

A google search does confirm as well:

The only reference I've found for the 6750 is a game compatibility listing on Namco for a Sanyo 6750 for Bell Mobility http://www.namcogames.com/games_phone.php?pid=1184. I'm not familiar with Bell Mobility so I don't know if this is a different phone, but I don't see any reference on Bell Mobility for a 6750. Maybe it's the same phone as the Katana Eclipse SCP-6750?

I'm hope Sanyo comes out with something soon to replace my M1.

so im glad i found this thread on here because i just got to hear about this phone today and i was hoping to find someone talking about it.....its called the eclipse obviously, i dont know that it will carry the katana name with it but it is the replacement for the dlx. i work for best buy mobile and my sprint rep brought his sanyo rep to the store today as a little treat(we dont get to talk to manufacturer reps too often) the phone looks a lot like the lx with two swooping curved lines on either side of the face and underneath those lines lie some pretty impressive LED lighting that produces i think 15 colors and i guess you can color code your contacts, pretty cool feature....that on top of all the regulars, evdo data, 2mp cam, gps and the whole sprint tv thing. sanyo guy didnt give us any release info but the phone looks sweet and should sell well....and dont forget the still legendary sanyo build quality

Ah. sounds nice. maybe i will wait for more info as i would like to replace my DLX. My DLX is fine, just want something new and if the Eclipse does everything the DLX does and more, that will be a good thing, (i may delay my Touch purchase:)) as long as the build quality is there.

i was at the sprint store and saw the sanyo LX but it felt kind of flimsy. i was not looking to purchase but my Mom was interested. did not like the build quality, at least from the outside. it did not seem to have that old quality feel of the Katana line. we will see how the Eclipse is regarding build quality and features. looking forward to seeing what this is all about.

That's cool your rep showed you the phone. Our rep just teased us about it coming out soon and didn't tell us much more than that. Is it a QWERTY phone or just a flip like the DLX?

its a flip phone, no qwerty yet(tho i did read something on phonescoop about keyocera's Zi predictive text that it will use on future sanyo branded phones) no word on release yet, i wasnt even supposed to see the phone so i didnt push too much, and im gonna doubt that it will be a best buy exclusive unless we get some deal for an exclusive color, i was actually surprised when we got the instinct exclusively for 60 days....as for size from what i could tell without having a comparison right next to it, its pretty spot on with the LX, its pretty thin

the LX is not that thin. no where as thin as the DLX.

That's interesting, cause the specs as listed on Phonescoop show that they are almost exactly the same, but the DLX is 0.5mm thinner than the LX's 17.8mm.

I'll stick with my M1 in any event...for now.

i did not put both phones side by side in the store as the LX did look thicker and may have visually looked thicker more so than the measurement describes due to the convex shape of the flip top.

i will take another look next time i am in the store and may bring a millimeter ruler.

the phone looks a lot like the lx with two swooping curved lines on either side of the face and underneath those lines lie some pretty impressive LED lighting that produces i think 15 colors and i guess you can color code your contacts, pretty cool feature....

I remember having the different LED colors on my MM-8300! It wasn't 15 colors, but I do remember being able to select different colors for incoming calls w caller ID and w/ out, Vmail messages, Text messages, etc. And the LED also doubled as a flashlight/camera flash with the white LED! I was surprised when Sanyo abandoned that feature.

Sanyo has come a long way in features though. Too bad they really don't release a "hey come and buy me" kinda phone every year. I'm totally willing to trade the wow for their reliability to be able to get a handset, have it last two years, then get something new. I just got a Katana DLX off of eBay for $150 and it's my 5th Sprint Sanyo phone in about 10 years. Until I see some concrete specs/pics for the Eclipse, I'm sticking with my DLX for a while!

Anyone know whether Sanyo Eclipse (great pic, btw) will have QChat? A memory card slot? It looks from the pic that it has a camera. :D

I LOVE my QChat on my Pro 700s, but I miss my camera and media slot from my Sanyo 9000 (NOT missing the Ready Link, though).

Would love the info sooner rather than later, as I need to decide by 7/15.

Don't know. This is how i see things.

The LX replaces the 3200

The Eclipse replaces the DLX and the katana 2, hence the 6750 model number. It's not going to be a high end phone, probably another mid range phone that looks sharp.

I know for sure this won't replace the LX. It just came out recently

i guess so. if it doesnt have ptt. but 2mp cam, media controls on the outside. most likely it will have 262k 240x320 screen resolution. its evdo. i think its pretty comprable to the m1. now onlyif we can figure out if it has flash lite feature. but i assume the led color changing lights on the outside could do that.

the m1 with it's 2.5mm out, i can use for making calls. the blackberry curve could do it with it's 3.5mm out too.

I said Kyoceraish. The phones will still carry the Sanyo branding. They'll probably remain Sanyos at heart too.

is it in the Katana/KatanaII/Katana LX class

presumably is a replacement for the DLX, no ? since the LX is relatively new (although I still consider the K II to be superior to the LX)...

I would lean more on that because its bumping the camera from the DLX 1.3 megapixels up to 2.0mp. The Katanas I, II were VGA. That would suck to bump up the camera but short the bluetooth.

Says 1.3mp camera. other sources have said a 2mp camera. still 500 entries with 700 numbers. i am at capacity with my DLX.
cant tell if it will have the structural strength of previous sanyos.
i did not like the feel of the sanyo LX when i took a look at it at the store. My Mom has the blue sanyo katana and she liked the blue LX but i advised against it as the LX felt kind of flimsy in addition to not looking as solid as previous sanyos.

i wonder if the eclipse will follow in the LXs footsteps.

Yeah.. I noticed the 2mp vs 1.3mp... I also noticed the price in Canada wouldn't be outragous.. I still don't think this is a valid replacement for the DLX.. I would expect a big "upgrade" from the DLX, IF it were to be the replacement. then again, thats just me.. maybe i'm expecting too much from Sanyo/Kyocera.. A real upgrade would be a qwerty keyboard (even a shared qwerty keyboard like the Pearl).. Wish we had some insight from a Sprint Employee on how they are pushing the phone. Even though it is the next in the Katana family, I don't think it is following in the footsteaps of the 8000 series. Will I consider this phone? Yeah, so far... Will I miss my 8400 if I do.. HELL YEAH... Maybe I'll use it as a stepping stone to the Curve... (draggin my feet on changing plans)... Has anyone had any luck "asking" telesales about it? or even gettin more info in-store? I still dispise visiting a local store (see my other posts)... I just don't trust "salespeople" especially "3rd Party Sales".. on a honsest opinion...

I am friendly with the reps in my neighborhood sprint store. they are all very nice and honorable. the one problem is that most of them are not very knowledgeable regarding the devices they sell. they have, for lack of a better term, surface knowledge.
As a purchaser, I would advise to gain as much knowledge about what you are purchasing and not to rely on just the sales reps (this includes anything you want to purchase including tvs, air conditioners, etc.) as you alluded to in your post.

Some reps may have certain reasons to steer you towards certain devices. To be fair though, this goes on in alot of industries.

Of far greater concern for me personally than the 1.3 vs. 2.0mp camera issue is that the specs on http://www.sanyo-katana.ca/ say the main display is 176x220! I assumed a replacement for the DLX would be QVGA. I've been watching this thread closely since my beloved 8400 died and this is bad news if true. All I want is a decent clamshell with EVDO and QVGA...I can't believe I had several to choose from nearly 2 years ago when I got my 8400 and now there are no options. :-( Here's hoping the specs are wrong or there's something else on the way very soon...

Yes, let us punish people because they want convenience in their life. Seriously, do you believe that everyone wants to be like you and carry a camera and a phone wherever they go? People might find themselves in situations where they weren't planning on taking pictures, but might want to. In those times, they want quality pics. Heck, there is apparently a demand for such convenience since there are 5-10MP cameras in Europe and Asia. It's people like you that are keeping everyone in the US in 3.2MP and less range instead of expanding into the high range camera phones available nearly everywhere else.

Wow, that was a little uncalled for. I have to agree with Marlon, a 1.3 is good enough for me. And how much would they charge us for a 10MP camera phone over here?? I bet it would be outrageous.

Harsh.

Nowhere in my post did I say that I carried around a camera with me every single day. (Assumption)

I didn't mention anything about punishment.

I'm not holding any Americans down.

I was just stating my opinion. Isn't that what forums are for?

For your information I am a gadget freak. I can't go a long period of time without new stuff. I just bought a new GPS, before that, a new iPod. If it starts to lose its smell it needs to be replaced. :)

I just do not feel that a 3.2MP camera is necessary in a phone (nor do I really feel that a camera is necessary, but like you said it is a "convenience"), when a good quality camera will STILL take better quality pictures. Megapixels have NOTHING to do with image quality anyway.

Of course many people prefer a higher resolution camera, and it's handy to have one built-in the phone. I think 3-5MP is good enough (for me), but since we know we are not getting it (yet), 1.3MP vs 2.0MP doesn't really make a big difference.

Like what Marlon said, what bothers me is the screen, I was hoping to see at least a QVGA 260k screen like the DLX, otherwise, it's just a Katana II with a 1.3MP camera and A2DP and music player upgrade (this is what a mid-end phone should have anyway). Maybe that's why they named it SCP6750. We will have to look forward for a true DLX replacement (SCP8600 maybe?).

Thanks buddy, I seriously didn't know what a forum was for. I guess it's just to state opinion without any possibility of disagreement...at least that's why I would think you seemed "surprised" and had to state the meaning of a forum.

I should have probably have been more clear. I understand one can have an opinion; however, to call a group of people "insane" because they want to use their phone as a primary camera is where I had the problem. This is the same thing years ago when people said others were "insane" for wanting to browse the internet on their phone. It's comments and limited thinking like that that limits innovation and expansion, which is why we're still stuck in the 1.3 - 3.2MP range...

...oh, wait, my bad...forgot Megapixels NO effect...:hee:...okay, going to try to do this with a straight face, NONE, ZERO, NADA effect on image quality...that we could change the resolution from 12MP to .1MP on a Canon Digital Rebel XSi and it'll look exactly the same...I mean, I understand that there are other factors (lens quality, CCD sensor quality, ISO-capabilities, etc.), but thanks for telling me that Megapixel has NO effect. We should seriously drop to .05 to help minimize noise...yea...

...on our phones with crappy lens, ***** video capabilities, etc. with only one exception to the latter two, the LG Dare. I'm not saying that your opinion is wrong, no opinion is wrong; however, I do not agree with it and I have a problem with the label your assign to people who would like this to come into fruition in the US.

It doesn't surprise me that Sanyo is dropping the ball on this phone, as they have on so many in the past with their constant track record of providing minimal features at an over-inflated price. The only thing Sanyo's had going with them was this false since of superior reception and reliability that Sprint imposed on their customers because it was exclusive to them. Sanyo's with always be over priced crap in a fugly design (granted the Eclipse is less fugly than the others...more like promoted to ugly).

To the guys arguing about the cameras, both of you have good points. More megapixels doesn't necessarily mean better quality, but if all other aspects of a camera's performance are equal, of course it would be nice to have greater resolution, and it's surprising that US phones lag so far behind what's available overseas. The 1.3mp vs. 2.0mp isn't a deal-breaker for me personally as I seldom view photos taken on my phone anywhere but on my phone. But I'd certainly be excited to see a phone with higher camera resolution, autofocus, a real flash, etc. -- a phone that could really compete in quality with a pocketable digital camera would be exciting! We can all agree to disagree without making it personal.

Yeah, the screen kills this phone for me. Even the Katana II had QVGA didn't it? (No EVDO though.) It's been mentioned since the beginning that the Eclipse is a "mid-range" phone but with the specifications floating around it seemed high-end enough for me -- until learning about the screen. The Eclipse looks like a great phone for the mid-range market, far better all around than the LX IMHO, but it doesn't make much sense that the DLX (which has been around far longer than the LX) is being phased out with no successor in sight. So is a replacement on the horizon or is Sanyo (Kyocera?) taking a different direction and not targeting that segment of the market?

The only QVGA flips on the radar for Sprint that I know of are Motorolas -- the VE20 and the V950 -- but I don't care for the styling and I've heard awful things about past Motorolas on Sprint (maybe that was just the earlier ones?). And where's anything comparable from LG or Samsung? -- they have phones in this class for other carriers. I'd wait to see what's new in Q4 but I'm stuck in 2004 with my SCP5500 after the untimely death of my 8400. I don't know whether to take a chance on a Moto or get a DLX from eBay.

XUI seems like it would be used for some kinda of widgets, or a SDK or something for a phone. I'm pretty excited because I know sprint has been tossing out SDK's for employees to mess around with on phones for a while now.

ANNNDDDD...

I played with this bad boy today. Our store has it in only Silver right now. The phone is very very slick looking. It has the same outer coating as the LX does, nice and shiney. The controls on the out side are solid buttons, and easy to press, but do require some pressure. The screen is back to the resolution of the DLX I believe (thank god). The Illumination thing is badass, it looks really sweet. If anyone has questions I'll gladly answer them!

From the pictures and the specs, it looks like it might finally be time to replace the trusty MM9000.
The lights are pretty retarded, but the basic phone looks like it has everything of the MM9000, plus bluetooth.
On the upside, it has a real headphone jack.
On the downside, it uses the micro-USB to charge instead of the traditional Sanyo jack.

Ok I read some of the last few pages but not all of this thread. I have the DLX and this phone seems kind of cool to me. I like the colored lights that is going to have. But this isn't the upgrade to the DLX is that it? And the screen is better on the DLX right? Maybe I shouldn't upgrade. My DLX is fine but I do want to go look at one of these in the store. I may end up liking it. My boyfriend has the Samsung M520 I think it is and he thinks it looks asnd sounds like a cool phone. Sadly, you may not get the sanyo that you are waiting for due to the merger with kyocera.
I have had sanyos for over 8 years but all good things must come to an end. hopefully there will be some good model sanyos coming out but i am doubtful and not as confident as i have been over the years when i used to look forward to the next new sanyo that was about to come out.
Sanyo has undergone one of its biggest changes in years and there is a saying, "if it aint broke, dont fix it."
Only Time Will Tell if the Sanyo quality we are used to will remain untouched or bettered.

Rollin how you can compare this with the M 1 or the 7400 if you remember that particular phone, the keypad is blue or they went back to green and the speakerphone and ringer are really loud

we got one in this morning... pretty similar to the LX (Cheap) but the light show would be cool if you were a 15 year old ecstacy eating raver (hee)

I can't really compare it to either phone, because I haven't had either one of those phones. The keypad is blue and the speakerphone and ringer are pretty loud. I keep the volume down on about 5 and it is plenty loud.

As far as the colors, my local sprint store said that silver was the only color available and it is the only one on Sprint's site.

It sounds like the Moto VE20 (which has a 2.0mp camera, for those that care) might be a better phone for the same price:

I looked at the Eclipse and the Moto VE20. I became more interested in the Moto but I have a fear that it might not have the signal strength and quality of the Sanyo. I really dont know anything about Moto phones, I've heard some complaints about the previous razr phones being junk.
I dont like the keypad on the Moto VE20 but the display was much nicer than the Eclispe. The screen on the Eclipse didn't seem to have much more detail than my Sanyo 2300. The lights on the Eclipse look a bit silly. Hopefuly there is a setting option to turn them off.

If I knew the VE20 would have Sanyo Quality and signal strength, I would buy the VE20. If I had to gamble, I would still choose the Eclipse.

Black, pink, and silver. There are pics in the thread of all three.

From what I am hearing, the eclipse's claim to fame is its lights.
The Eclipse sounds like an upgrade to the LX and it just seems that sanyo/kyocera is going in a new direction. i dont know exactly what that direction is, but it is not the direction that has been occurring with Sanyos over the past few years which had been to improve on the features of the previous models.
It appears that the DLX may have been my last Sanyo cellphone purchase.
It was a good 8 year run but nothing lasts forever, except death.

Sanyo has been such a great phone in the past. I don't know whats going on with it. I think I am going to move on to the Touch Pro when it comes out. I was really looking forward to seeing a Sanyo that could replace my M1. I don't see that day coming anytime soon.

have been wondering the same, seems like they are all a gamble? If I'm wrong sure would like to hear it! leaning towards the moto... and praying ;)

I'm so disappointed in this phone. I'm regretting that I didn't get the Katana DLX when I had the chance. I like the external looks of the Eclipse but the main screen is so small. Perhaps I should just get it and try it out for a few weeks. I wonder what my chances are of tracking down a new Katana DLX in champagne from Sprint....

The DLX was a good phone. Of course I can't say how good it is compared to the Eclipse. The DLX wasn't the most exciting phone I've ever owned but I do miss it sometimes. If you can't find a champagne in store then there is always Ebay. If you live in the KC area I would try calling the Leawood store in Kansas in Town Center. That store is very helpful and if you're by there then ask for Davids help, I forgot his last name but he is very very helpful, not really your average Sprint CSR.

they need to cut the price of this phone to $50 bucks like yesterday. no way its worth $100.00 after rebates

Not that it makes a lot of difference but Cnet rated the Moto VE20 a 7.3 and they rated the Katana Eclipse a 7.7.

I am wondering to if the Katana DLX will be my last Sanyo phone who knows. I just watched the You TIbe Video and I don't care much for the lights. It's ok and I might use them if I had them but not that big of a dealbreaker for me to upgrade just yet. Is the touch Pro a PDA phone? If I didn't have to change plans I would consider the instinct. I'll wait it out till the end of the year maybe. I like the LG Rumor with the slide out keyboard but I have never owned LG and I know it's not PV. I wish the Instinct had a slide out keyboard does the Pro have one? I'll have to read up on it. Rose

The Pro has a slide out keyboard. The Diamond does not.
I will most probably get the Diamond.
No more Sanyos for me.

Those that are so attached to Sanyo should really re-access their loyalty. This isn't even close to the same brand that brought us the 5600, for example. Yes this is an opinion, but one coming from someone who has owned 10+ of their handsets so I'm not coming here just to bash a phone. I swear, some of you are wearing blinders.

It was time for me to set aside my MM9000 in favor of something with all its features plus bluetooth. (excepting the famed DUN, RIP)

The Eclipse screen was mediocre at best and the cheesy lights really turned me off.
After many faithful Sanyo years, I became a Motorola man (again) today. (Startacs from WAAYYYY back when.) I picked up a VE20 and am not regretting it. (yet)
The display is "fantabulous."
The outside mirror and fingerprint magnet, not so much.

Sorry Sanyo, but you've continued to underwhelm me with your past few flip phones.

i think sanyo will be losing alot of customers. bad for kyocera/sanyo and good for other manufacturers.
Also, is Sanyo going to be referred to as Kyocera? This would do Sanyo justice as they used to be known for manufacturing some real high quality phones. Ultimately known for their great reception and durability.
Attaching the Sanyo name to the last couple of phones may be doing Sanyo an injustice? imo.
Btw, i have owned only sanyo phones for the past 8 years purchasing a new model maybe twice a year.

I kmow i have had nothing but Sanyo phones since I started back in like 2001 I think it was. There was a phone before the 4900 the 4500 candy bar speaker phone with non color screen and I guess it had wireless web. I never thought of doing internet on a phone until I got the 4900 and paid 10 bucks for unlimted internet and that is when I had to do short mail. And then it was 8200 not so great 8300 was good and the 8400 I loved. But I wanted a slim flip in pink with blue keys and I got it in the DLX. I actually love this phone and will probably keep it for a while longer. Rose

The sanyo eclipse may be going the way of the sanyo LX.
Once the phones are released, not too much to talk about, although it is still early with the eclipse.
I remember when the DLX was going to be released. Before the release, there was alot to post about regarding the phone, regarding its features, the supposed features, pricing, etc., etc. much the same way it was for the eclipse.
But the big difference with the DLX is that the posting did not stop. From the first day it was released to way past its release date, people could not purchase the phone fast enough or post quick enough regarding it pros and cons. Not so with the eclipse.
I dont know many who purchased the sanyo LX and I dont know if many will purchase the eclipse. By the postings or lack of, it appears not many.
The good old sanyo days look like they may be over:)

I'm real close to getting the Eclipse. I am dissapointed with the lack of QGVA screen and I can turn the silly lights off. I want it for the mp3 player.
If it came in black I would probably get one ASAP!

Does the Eclipse or Eclipse X come with a Sanyo buddy? does it have animations? (fish? dinosaur, penguin...that type) . What is the internal memory?

I've read that some think it's a step down from the scp-8400 with regards to specs. Is this because of the quality of the screen?

I'm asking because we are now able to get new phones. My wife and daughter have old LG fusics and I have a sanyo scp-8400. They are sort of stuck on getting a samsung instinct, but I'm not sure. Even though at first glance the instinct looks cool I doubt that it will compare with my current phone with regards to volume, ability to get a signal, and battery life among other things.

I do like blinkie lights even though i'm not a 15 year old extasy eating raver, but i'm guessing the novelty of those lights would wear off.

hmmm... the eclipse likes to shut off when it wants to huh? Does it come back on?? I don't like the sound of that. My current phone has a habit of crashing and then coming back on immediately at times, but 95% of these 'crashes' I avoid by closing the phone slowly. Don't want to go there willingly with a new phone. :-) Thanks for the info.
