Ok after a couple of days with the Pro 700 I have noticed that twice today my phone power cycled. I found this out because when I went to use my phone it was locked (I have it set to lock on power up) it also did it once yesterday. Not sure what caused it to do this, wondering if a software update may fix it :fingers: Has anyone else experinced this or any other bugs. Might be a good place to document anything.

I think that problem started when the media player was installed, never had the 5.6K, but my 9K and M1 do that too.. even when in use. I had to unlock because it was bothersome always having to unlock them due to a phantom power cycle

I have not had any problems with my Pro 700 at all. The issues I have had come from Sprint and getting my plan changed.

I don't have any media player installed so it can't be that.

What software load do you have on your Pro700?

picked mine up on Sunday, no reboot problems. Did take a day for the DC to start working correctly. it was off and on all day Sunday. I did notice yesterday I was getting errors using the web browser on the internet but may be problems in North Denver.

Deval it says 1.008 for software version. I too recently got browser error 403, once last night and again this morning. Did a data update, seems to be temp fix.

I am having battery issues with my PRO-200. I can't seem to get through the day without having to charge the battery. A few DC calls, 10-20 minutes of PCS calls, & 5-7 minutes on the browser & I'm down to 1 bar. All settings are still factory... I'm hoping it is just the phone or battery as the reviews of the 200 have been glowing!

Hmmm...do you travel a lot between areas with no RevA coverage?

And yeah, I believe 1.008 is the final version. Hopefully the issues resolve themselves. I actually like this...I can't wait for the Moto V950

So I have 3 Pro 700s set up on my F&C plan with a DC $10/mo add-on (THAT was a 3 hour nightmare).

All 3 started with firmware version 1.006. On one, I scrolled in settings to "Phone Info", and there was an option to "Upgrade Firmware" (as well as "Upgrade PRL"). So, I clicked on option, and it upgraded Firmware to 1.008. Only difference I can see so far is that with 1.008, the menu options to "Upgrade Firmware" and "Upgrade PRL" are no longer present. Otherwise, I have yet to notice ANY difference.

Before I upgrade my two other Pro 700s to 1.008, does anyone have any idea what the difference is between the two firmwares, and what the changes are between 1.006 and 1.008?

Thanks in advance for any info.

probably small issues with network handoff, etc.

So does everyone feel it is worth it pick up a pro 700? Right now I've got the ic502 and thinking about either purchasing one outright from Sprint or swapping as i've only had the 502 for a week. I do live in one of the 46 launch markets.

Unless you travel a lot and need the iDEN coverage, go for the Pros.

The only thing you have to remember is with the Pro series, you have to be in a RevA area, otherwise the PTT will not function.

For example, I always am in NYC or NJ, which is totally blanketed by RevA, so having a Pro phone would work better for me.

So I tried using the PAM option on my Pro 700. Got my USB cable (what a pain to find!!), plugged it in, and set it up, both with and without SmartView (the new Sprint Connection Software).

My download speed (www.dslreports.com/stest (flash test)) was only in the 600-800 kB, and my upload speed was in the 290-350 kB speed. Download speed looked suspect, so I looked for slow downs.

Turns out that the modem driver is hard set for a cap of 230400. I can change my Windows XP speed, but the modem driver does not give an option to go to 921600.

Any thoughts on how to raise that? Registry edit? Modem driver hack/update?

Thanks in advance to all.

sd_matto:

I've been waiting for someone with this phone to try tethering.

I have a Win XP laptop. I think 921600 is the fastest the OS will let you make a com port.

And I honestly don't think that should be a limiter on the downstream side. The network will limit you (I think) to speeds below 921600.

Now the upstream speed you're seeing IS suspect. I think EVDO Rev A supports three or four times that speed on paper. And it seems to me that you should be able to get 500 Kb/s upstrem, or something on that order.

I guess Sprint can control this. It may be that their software is installing USB modem drivers that may limit this.

Have you tried Bluetooth (2.0)? The nice thing about Bluetooth is that it doesn't depend on Sprint's drivers. Make sure you don't have a Bluetooth 1.1 dongle. That's too slow to do Rev A.

Let us know how this proceeds?

So you just added a $10 charge to your Free & Clear plan? That's interesting. 'Not much different than what I want to do.

I understand your point about WinXP speeds capped at 921600 (and I can make that adjustment at the serial port/connection level in Win XP).

The problem is that the port speed pull down menu in the SmartView-provided modem driver (Start->Control Panels->Phones and Modems->Driver) is capped at 230400; there is no option for 921600. And, I have posts (unanswered) in other places trying to resolve this. Any thoughts you have about how to edit a *.sys file (4 of those comprise the modem driver) would be much appreciated.

Regarding bluetooth, my PC does not have it, and I am awaiting return of my MacBook Pro from AppleCare to try BT PAM out.

I cannot wait to get this all working, as I will then FINALLY be able to take advantage of my grandfathered, $0 MRC PAM on this line (yes, I somehow (don't know how) got it added on, and I soooo cannot wait to use it).

About the $10 add-on on F&C, I got it set up with retention as part of a contract extension, but I have been trying to negotiate the price down. They aren't budging, though.

Wish me luck (and do provide me with any info you have re the modem issue above, as I want to top this out).

EDIT: It turns out that my Pro 700 is not much slower than my Rev-A equipped Mogul when used as PAM. Mogul has 921600, and Pro 700 only has 230400. So, I dont know what to make of all this (though I am looking for speeds on the Mogul's modem driver, something I have yet to find).

sd_matto:

Do you keep any older versions of Sprint PCS Connection Manager around?

It would not surprise me a bit if you installed the "Sanyo Drivers" from this
that they would work on the Pro 700 (even though they don't explicitly say they will).

I haven't done a clean install (i.e., gotten rid of ALL traces of past driver installations), so this information is not complete.

Having said that, when I delete the modem driver, and then replug in the phone, it prompts me for a specific file. And, no, old Sanyo drivers don't work.

I will look to do a clean install over the next few days, and see where that leaves me.

Hopefully, it will work (if not, I am still open to suggestions on how to modify a modem driver file to allow for more variation on pull down menu).

I am having trouble adding the talk/message/dc plan to my new pro-700 phone. I live in the charlotte region and bought the phone in winston-salem. What i have been told from the sprint reps is that they cannot add that plan to the phone because my address falls in the charlotte region and they have not released the phone for that region yet. I can talk on my phone and text message but i am not provisioned for DC on my phone. Anyone else having the same issues or problems?

Yes, if your phone number is not in the 46 markets which NDC is available, you are unable to activate the DC service.

so what if i transfered my number into one of the 46 markets? would it work then or does it go by which market my billing address is in? Sprint is telling my billing address is what it goes by, and when my area is available then it will work. I have transfered my number from a area that does not even have Rev A evdo and now i live in the charlotte area which has Rev A evdo.

This isn't really a problem with the phone, more of a problem of where you are.

Well let me explain it this way.

I live in NJ, and have a 201 phone number, which is a NJ number, and get a Pro phone and get the NDC working on it. Now, let's say I move to another address. It depends on 2 things, the area code/CSA of the phone, and if there is RevA coverage there, and the network is enabled for NDC.

I know that in NY, NDC was enabled before the phones launched, but if you tried to activate it, the system would not allow it. One of the cell site guys that I know was telling me that they were testing it before it launched.

I think that is a sprint prerequisit. And if you have multiple lines on a share plan, not all lines get updated when you change the plan.

Just FYI, after you update to the latest firmware you don't see the Update Fireware and Update PRL options anymore in the menu. You just have to go to Settings>Phone Info>Version. Then scroll down to what you want to check for updates (firmware or PRL), and the left softkey turns the option to Update.

I'm on software version 1.008 and it shows update when I scroll to it so I'm wondering if software updates are still to come. Time will tell.

With that being said, how can I find out if my area has Rev A yet? I am waiting very, very, very patiently for the new Pro 700 for in my area.:frustrate I have had sales rep from Sprint (phone and e-mail) tell me that I can get this phone (about 50-50 for yes and no). If the towers where I am at have been up-graded, then it will be soon then, right. I WANT IT NOW!!!:fingers: I work in Ann Arbor MI and live a mile north of Toledo OH.

Also, I have read a lot of reviews. I want to know this. I want the phone for the Sprint Voice, NDC and text/pics. Is this phone the right one. I need something rugged because I work construction. Other fellow works have the ic phones and say they are terrible. I read that there are some glitches, but on things that I would probably never use. I just want to know if what I want the phone for, is this the phone

If you want a pic phone this will not be your choice as it has no camera. Try the Samsung z400 if you want rugged and cam, or wait for Moto v950.

Sorry, my plan has text and pics. The pics are really for the other phones on my plan. I have read reviews about that phone, and they have not been good. The reviews have all been 8 to 10 for the Pro 700, less than 7 for the Z400. Depending on when any of these phones become available in my area, the Moto v950 might be available by then. Everything still working good with the 700?

I have went to the coverage on sprints web site, but it does not show a difference between their Rev A network and their other PCS network. I think that it is called CMDA 3Q, or something. Unless I am looking at something different. Do I have to type in a zip code from an area that has Rev A to see where it is available? Just wondering. I check Sprints web site about 2-3 times a week, to see when the Pro 700 becomes available in my area.

According to a Sprint sales rep in Toledo, OH. Sprint is about done with upgrading the towers in Ohio, so that means, in the words of the rep "the Pro 700 could be available tomorrow, or it could be available in three months".:tu:

I would look up the Data/Email and Multimedia section with your zip code, and the orange coverage area is Rev A, which means PTT coverage.

picked mine up on Sunday, no reboot problems. Did take a day for the DC to start working correctly. it was off and on all day Sunday. I did notice yesterday I was getting errors using the web browser on the internet but may be problems in North Denver.

Do you still have the DC problem? Did yours go from working to not working, just by letting it sit ilde for a little bit? My evdo connection will disappear, and then I loose my PTT. I try to connect to someone, and it tells me to try a voice call, then the screen goes on to tell me that it is connecting, then the call will go thru. About 15 to 30 secs. I can then use it to PTT different people, and it works fine. Let it sit for more than 30 minutes, and it has to "reconnect". Just activated it on Thursday night. Today is Friday. Other than that, I love the phone. Speaker sounds a little funny. I did find out that this phone is still not available to Joe-Q public in my area. How I got the ability to use it, is beyond me. Let me know if you are still having the DC problem.

It is up and working now. Sprint is the one that e-mailed me, tell me that it was available to me. I checked with the phone sales guy three times to make sure that it was for my area, and he checked, everytime, and came back and said yes. I have used it all weekend, and it works great. No more of it not working when it sits idle. I live near Ohio and work way up in Michigan, and it works in all areas that I have traveled in. My in-laws live in another area, in Michigan, and it worked over there also. I am extremely pleased, so far, with this phone.
