My contract ends August 2008 and I received a call from Sprint offering me a new phone. I choose the Katana DLX. I wanted the BB Pearl (only because of the way it looked), but I was told I would have to pay $39 for BB service. Now I'm thinking that since I normally keep my phones for about 2 years maybe I should go with the BB Pearl in case my usage increases. I rarely text or use the internet. But there are some months where I text like crazy but then I'll go 2 months with about 5 text messages total.

I'm currently on a family plan with 3 phones that shares 1000 minutes ($49.99). Two of the phones have Power Vision with Nav. The third line only has talk. With the new share plans, BB service is included, but I'm not sure I want that price increase just to get the BB Pearl; but if my needs every changes, then I don't want to pay $300 for a new phone.

I think I can change my Power Vision Nav plan to a Power Vision BB plan for $10 more. Is my logic correct or am I just searching? Or should I just stay with the Katana?

Unless you need BES, you can get the Blackberry plan for $30 with Nav/Text included.

So it seems that since I have Power Vision with Nav on this phone for $20 and 300 text for $5, I can drop that and add the Blackberry plan, which would result in $5 more a month.

Now I have to decide if I can deal with the smaller buttons on the Pearl.

The Pearl uses SureType, which is a hit or miss feature with the user. It takes a while to get used to.
