I have an a900 currently.

I find i do a lot more texting than talking. I also check my gmail a lot via
gmail mobile app, which runs pretty crappy.

I am thinking of going to the BB curve.

is it overkill? for one gmail account, and texting, with a few voice calls now and again. or would anyone recommend other phones for me to look at?

i'm on the $30 SERO plan, so going with a BB is going to double my bill as well.

thanks for any input

You may want to consider a Palm or Windows Mobile device. They will let you have smartphone features without having to add anything on your data plan. You are essentially paying extra for push e-mail with RIM devices, which most everyday users don't need anyways.

thanks for any inputPalm Centro would be the best phone for you based on your usage. I should know, I was the same way coming from my V3m. I did about 300 minutes and 1000 texts with the V3m, got the Centro and texts went to 3000+/ month.

thanks for your feedback.

I looked at some reviews on the Centro. While it seems many
people love that phone, it would seem to be less reliable, and have shorter battery life.

sounds like palm does sms well though, people seem to like the threaded conversations.

grrr, decisions decisions. i think it might be worth the extra plan charges to have a more reliable device.

The Centro is a good phone. i've had one and my sister currently has one. First one I had got stuck in a endless loop and i had to get it replaced. But thats about it. Only problem with the Centro is that is suffers from serious call quality issues.Every person I know with one says the same thing. background noise is crazy, unless your in a very quiet area any noise in the back is going to sound like a war zone to the person on the other end. But you can purchase a app called Volume Care that will help with that.

Yes the Curve comes with the extra cost but many people (like myself) find it worth it for the stablity. There is no perfect phone but the Curve has gotten excellent reviews and no one really has any major issues to report about it. Also if you are just going to text and use gmail you may not need the extra data plan. Opera mini browser and the Gmail java app both work just fine with the plan you have now.

Thanks for all your replies. Figured i'd post my experience.

I ended up getting the Curve. The phone is as great as everyone
says it is. The apps are great, the battery was great, I really liked the
phone.

That being said, i ended up returning it. The extra $30 a month just wasn't worth it to me, and i didn't want to have a "crippled" curve by not having a BB plan.

Still thinking about trying the Centro. Or I may just wait another 1/2 year and see what comes out.
