Im sure this has been covered but I need quick opinions. I was a 8200 and 8300 user who got a Samaung M520... which I am selling because it has been dropping calls. So right now I am using my OLD 8300 and am about to buy a used phone and can't decide between the 8400 and the 8500 Katana DLX. Is the Katana really worth the extra money? Are they both able to play MP3's on the phone? (without power vision or sprint music store) Which was better for reception?
Thanks for helping me decide... I just want to make sure the DLX is really worth the extra money.

I currently own the 8400 and I would have to say it is probably the best phone I have owned to date. You can play mp3. I have a 1gb card in mine and it holds plenty of music and pics. Battery life and recepton are good too. Cannot comment on the DLX as I have not owned one. Hope that helps some.

I like my M1 wayy better than those two phones. it is a bit bulky, but it's media player is awesome. I like the built in EQ. Reception is great compared to other phones. 1 gig built in memory for your files

ive had both the 8400 and 8500 ...both great phones and cant go wrong on either...however... i give the edge to the 8400 for style./.. otherwise...they are basically the same phone...except style change...and the dlx has stereo bluetooth and the ability to run more than one game or app at once and musica store in background... however it has half the internal memory for games/apps/ringers etc...(the dlx has the half the memory)

it's probably trivial but this is my take
hardware/software the phones are the same, which is great

i hate the shimmery gaudy look of the 8500- but love the BLUE keypad and button texture
the 8400 is pretty old-school, the green buttons are ugly

again, trivial. loved my M1 the best.

Also I forgot to add, texting was a little hard on DLX - buttons weren't that easy to press - you had to press down wayyy harder than my M1

What color? It's a great phone, but the keypad got on my nerves a little bit. The app manager is really nice though, wish I have that on my M1

I got the silver in mint condition for $140 on ebay.
The keypad got on your nerves.. meaning the buttons are harder to press?
I hate the volume control on the top and not the bottom.
time for me to find out how to get music playing without web acccess

Yea the keys were reallly hard to press compared to my M1.

I use the media player to play music, the Sprint music store sucks.

I owned the Katana 8500 DLX. The resolution on the screen is excellent. I thought the screen look better (because it was brighter) than the M1. I didn't like the speaker phone on the 8500, it had a very tiny sound and was not loud compared to Sanyo phones in the past. What happened? I owned the Sanyo 7500 before that, the speaker phone was super loud and sounded good. I did notice that the Sanyo 7500 was Made in Japan, while the Sanyo 8500 was made in Malaysia. The M1, buy the way is Made in China.

Does anyone know if the Sanyo 8400 speakerphone is on par with the Sanyo 7500 speakerphone for volume/sound?

Also, in what country is the Sanyo 8400 made in?

Thanks,

AC

^ My M1's screen is definitely larger.

What does what country it's made in have anything to do with the quality of the phone? My M1 (Made in China) lasted longer than most of my other phones...

Hi,

Opinion:

It matters to me and others that hold the same opinion as me.

Because with my experience with some Made in China goods is for that they don't last as long as the Made in Japan product. Thats good to hear though that they M1 has lasted long for you. I've heard reviewers say that the plastic seems cheap on that unit though. There are certain products and the M1 may be one of them, that are an exception.

There are always some exception to the rule, mostly for companies that simply assemble there Made in Japan good in China (assembled in China). Although, this M1 product says that it is Made in China.

Because, not only are they Made in China with not the same Japanese Q and A, but they can use circuits, plastics, lead paint, etc from the Chinese region that they are made. Chinese made products are known to go cheap on certain parts/details and thats why whey are made in China right, to save money? :td:

Knowing good and well that there are many higher quality Japanese or even Malaysian Sanyo products out there, its hard for me to get the Chinese product unless its a high quality product and its the only one out there.

In this case, the Sanyo is probaly the most full featured Sanyo phone out there in America. Although, there is one negative on the M1 that I don't hear mentioned, being that many people in the past have already stated that the inner antenna reception was not as good as other Sanyos and displayed less reception bars when compared.

Lastly, I think that a good example of an exception to the rule is that Motorola/Nextel (Made in China) make some high quality products with some really loud speaker phones.

Well that's your opinion, I have mine, I won't argue over this. As you said, there's exceptions to everything. Where do you see what country the phone is made in? On the box?

The M1 says that it is Made in China on the phone and on the box.

I wonder if the first ones released were Made in Japan and then they decided to start making them in China, I'm not sure.
