The San Antonio Spurs, fresh off a Game 7 win over the New Orleans Hornets, were planning a quick getaway to Los Angeles to prepare to face the Lakers in the Western Conference finals.
Instead, they spent the night in their grounded plane in New Orleans.
The Spurs' departure from New Orleans after eliminating the Hornets 91-82 in Game 7 of the Western Conference semifinals was delayed several hours after their plane had mechanical problems, the team said Tuesday.
The team could not find hotel rooms in the city, so the players had to sleep on the plane, team spokesman Cliff Puchalski said.
"We slept on the plane -- as much as you can sleep," Puchalski said. "We tried to keep some normal semblance of order."
Puchalski said the team slept on the plane with the mechanical problems before boarding another plane that was brought in from Minneapolis. The team took off about 6:30 a.m. Central time, Puchalski said, and landed in Los Angeles about four hours later.
San Antonio uses the charter company Champion Air, which has announced it is ceasing all operations at the end of May.

Yeah, that's pretty crazy. I'm glad that they finally got to take off. Hopefully they'll find a better charter company. But yeah, gotta say. Welcome to Sunny L.A.! :D
The Spurs may be fresh off a Game 7 win, but the Lakers WILL be ready for tough match ups and a long series. You as Spurs fans know as well as I do that this will NOT be an easy series for either team. In fact I see THIS match up is more like the NBA finals, rather than the Western Conference Finals.
NEWayz, here's to an awesome WCF! :tu:

To analyse what? You've forgotten that you're playing against one of the greatest minds in the history of basketball? Phil Jackson is NOT just ANY coach. Need I remind you that he's won 9 NBA championships as a coach? He shares that record with ONLY Red Auerbach. And the fact that Kobe has been playing by far his greatest basketball this season, shows that he's ready for ANY challenge. And with Gasol and Odom completing the Triangle Offense, both playing awesome games, you'll need more than Duncan to defend in the paint.
Now DON'T get me wrong, I give the Spurs the up-most respect when it comes to great teams, and I am glad that the Lakers are playing you instead of the Hornets because there's RICH history between LA and SA. And this series brings the two teams back to the 2003 season when you knocked us off in the second round, ending our reign. Kudos for winning the championship that year BTW. Basically this will show if the Lakers can "re-pay" the favor and take back what's rightfully ours! :D
All in all, this match up is extremely exciting and no matter what the outcome the truth still stands,.. the West is still the BEST!!! :tu:

*shakes head* Well everyone is entitled to their own opinion, so it's all good. Hating is still acknowleging greatness (The Patriots are a PRIME example).

Not a hot start, but the series should shift when you play @ home. Billups hopefully will be 100% when you play at home. The problem only lies with you winning on the road, not at home since Boston has NOT won a SINGLE game on the road. So if Detroit can win at the Garden (which will NOT be an easy task) then I can see the Pistons in the NBA finals. :tu:

Whoa whoa whoa, who's hating? I love Phil Jackson and respect him as one of the best ever. Its just that one guy who thinks he can erase years of crying and complaining with one year and $9000 watches. :td: Lets not forget he wanted out of L.A. Other than him Im fine with the Lakers.
