So I made the switch to my first blackberry after using Windows Mobile smartphones, PPC's, Palm, and Seris 60 smartphones. After a few days (got my Curve on Monday) I'm very happy with my experience thus far.
The priorities I have in smartphones are: 1) Internet Browsing 2) Messaging, text and otherwise 3) Multimedia support.
So far I've had excellent experiences surfing on the internet and using hte messaging features of this phone. Surfing the internet has been relatively snappy and I enjoy the uncluttered layout of the BB's browser so far. I mostly surf forums, the NY Times, and various technology blogs when i use my smartphones. The BB Browser has done a great job so far. I've had a much faster and snappier performance than on my Moto Q9C. Although, pages are rendered much more accurately and with greater HTML and Javascripting support on PIE (Pocket Internet Explorer). I'm willing to make that trade off with the BB since my Curve doesn't have the sluggishness that PIE does in rendering and browsing large pages.
Messaging has been very good on the BB. The UI for email and features on the BB are definitely more intuitive and more powerful than on my Q9C. I used to use a 3rd party app, Octrotalk on my Q9C, which was excellent. The BB's native AIM and Gtalk programs are very good so far and I really like how when you get messages they all show up in the message section. It makes it very easy to check new chat, text, and email messages all at once.
I haven't had a chance to play with the BB's multimedia features so far, so I'll refrain from commenting at this time. On my Q9C and Mogul, I used to use Pocket DIVX Encoder to make the movies and TCPMP to play the movies on the phone. Both apps were excellent and free so I expect the BB to have some tall shoes to fill.
P.S. I also have some pics on my GF's Canon SD600 which are a side by side comparison of the ATT 8310 and the Sprint 8330. Sometimes I think they are the same color but most times I think the 8330 looks darker. Might just be my mind playing tricks on me though. I'll post pics when i can figure out how to get my Win XP Thinkpad to recognize the SD600 as a hard drive.

Sprint Navigation is amazing although i wish the refresh rate was faster for new course adjustments. I didn't use this on my WinMo phones since it wasn't included in my data plan, its free with BB plans I think.
I just used Fonebook to sync up my BB address book contact profile pics with Facebook ones. For some reason, I could never get this to work on my Windows Mobile phones but it seems to work well now.
One of the most improved features of the BB is the lack of sluggishness when making a call. Windows Mobile has an inherent amount of lag when performing simple phone features and the Curve seems to be much snappier in this regard. When I place a phone call it usually starts ringing right away.

Welcome to the other side. Some say dark side. I come from many years of WM as well. No looking back.
I feel that though the BB may not do everything, what it does do it does well.

I was a big WM Standard supporter however I'm really digging the BB experience so far.
What shortcomings have you found compared to WinMo?
I have to admit that I'm a little disappointed with the quality of the screen and display so far. My Q9C seemed to have a brighter and more vivid display.

I have to admit that I'm a little disappointed with the quality of the screen and display so far. My Q9C seemed to have a brighter and more vivid display. The Curve has light sensor to save battery life .When in low light area brightness of screen automatically lowers. In bright light areas screen brightens.
I think theres setting that can be adjusted turning off light sensor.
As far as your QC9 screen hmm
Many owners found them to be dust collectors...like dust getting underneath plastic housing covering screen:ohcrap:
The Curve blows the QC9 and its dusty screen away:)

Lol. That's what I was going to say... With or without the dust under the screen.
No, in all seriousness. 240x320 is the same in both devices. I think that the screen on the curve is smaller therefore given a sharper look.
Welcome to the SU Blackberry forum. If you like WM... There is a windows mobile forum. You will be welcomed there as well. We are all nice.

east , If you want the QC9 make your eyes water backlight setting turn off screen dim.
Go to,
Options , Screen/Keyboard .....from there scroll down to "Automatically Dim Back light" and turn off.
Exit that screen ,save setting box will pop up ,select save and you screen will no longer dim in low light area.

This light sensor is for saving battery though. With it turned off you will run though batteries.
Although, the q9c had a rotten battery life as well. Everyone had those extended batteries sticking out of there previously thin phone.

Like Cody I am a BB convert after being a long time WM advocate. I had his threaded messaging cab in my 6700, 6800 and Touch as well as his battery hacks cab as well. I really enjoyed my Pearl and I am liking the Curve even more. MY main 2 requests for BB is HTML support on the emails and improved multimedia codecs support (XVID and DIVX mainly).
Regarding the OP issues with the BB browser, I love Opera Mini 4.1 it does a really good job at rendering those difficult pages (pron, banking, you name it...) and speed has improved significantly.

I've gone from a WM5 Smartphone to WM6 PPC to Blackberry. I would argue that the BB is superior in every way except for the fact that there is no true threaded SMS (either that or I'm just biased because I got so used to how it was on my Mogul/Touch).

I switched from the 755P to the curve. So far I love it. Only thing I do not like is the way you have to swap calls, or goto your headset or speaker phone.
On the bb you have to goto the menu and then find what you want to do and click it.
On the Treo it was right on the screen during a call. Which was much better

There is a button on the keypad for the speaker phone. You also just have to hit the phone button to switch between calls. Not sure I understand your issue.

hows the signal reception on the Curve compared to the WM for those who switched... Any notice of better call quality on the BB to the WM?
east

Signal quality seems to be better on the Curve. I didn't really have any complaints with my Mogul or Q9C though. However, the biggest difference is the speed the BB connects the call. Not sure if it was the WM OS or the hardware but calls would always take at least a few seconds to connect before. With my Curve the calls connect quite quickly.
Does anyone have any recommendations for tethering software? So far I've been unimpressed with mobishark's speed and ease of use. PDA Net was a superior product.

I had a Touch and the lack of a physical KB was too much of a liability. I switched to the Q9C. Personally for me it goes like this... Curve > Q9C > Touch.
The Touch is a decent phone and I like that it had a decent amount of memory but its software KB's are too much of a drawback for me.

I also came from the Touch, and I have other WM phones as well. Like East said, the no keyboard thing starting to get to me. At first it was cool and different, and I adjusted but then the novelty wore off and it wasn't practical for everyday use. I was going to switch to the Q9c until the Curve came out so I got that. I'm loving the Curve over the Touch, I dont miss it at all. Only thing I miss is the pic speed dial I had on my homescreen. Call quality, volume, reception, speed, typing is all much better on the Curve. if the extra $30/month starts to get to me then maybe I will go to a Q9c, but for now its all Curve

Yeah Cody I turned to the dark side too .... left the mogul and the touch for the curve.
The curve is a very stable device and really like it:clap:
