Official first impression, coming from an HTC Touch Phone...!

Well what can I say, I haven't been able to stop playing with my curve since I got it yesterday...it is indeed addictive and although I had to bump up my plan an extra $22 a month for BIS and PAM, so far it has been well worth it because EVERYTHING WORKS on this phone compare to the Touch...

I got fed up with the touchscreen on the Touch phone I mean I avg about 2500-3000 txts a month and that was becoming unpractical on the touch due to the lag on the onscreen keyboard.

The size factor of the curve took only about 10mins to adjust too. The only thing I find weird with the curve and I guess is standard across all berries is that it doesn't wake up when a text is received from standby.... A lil different but I guess the battery will last longer this way....

Moving on sprint navi is GREAT, I found a shortcut to the airport this morning that I never knew existed! It was dead on accurate, I'm highly impressed with it. Voice command works. Using jivetalk for IM is flawless and I wish text msgs looked just like the IM program.

Phone is great loud and clear and my bluetooth headset is louder as compared to the vol on the Touch. Better camera better media capabilities.... LOL like I already said EVERYTHING WORKS on this phone I mean this is probably the first time I will agree with sprint on the pricing of this phone is indeed worth the $599 retail!!!!

The only aspect where the
Touch crushes the Curve is PAM over bluetooth! I ve been avg'in 300- 650 kps where as the Touch would do 650-1100 over bluetooth! Oh well its still very usable so that's almost a non factor....

I am glad I made the switch and I will be a happy camper for a while with this phone!!!

heck i can't believe i just typed all of this on the curve itself...i wouldn't have tried it on the Touch!

I'm also coming from the Touch and this is my first BB ever and I love this thing. I still find myself touching the screen sometimes out of habit from using the Touch so long but I'll get over it. Sound quality is great, earpiece and calls were very loud and clear. The BB OS is definitely a big change from WM but in a good way, its way smoother and doesn't have the lag that the Touch had. I'm loving the keyboard. Its the perfect size for my hands. Now im much more motivated to reply to emails with the Curve, the Touch had no physical keyboard so typing out anything longer than a few words gets pretty fustrating. Installed Opera Mini and works like charm. Even though the BB browser works well too. I perfer Opera. Haven't had a chance to play with all the features yet since I've only had it about a day or so. Only a couple things I dont like is the trackball (have to get used to that) and like Badboy said the phone doesn't wake up with new texts/emails (maybe its a setting im overlooking)
and the $30 BIS plan i had to add on but so far its been worth it.

Came from the Touch and I loved my Touch. But I needed a change form a Win Mobile platform...Well my su buddy Lenny got me excited about the Curve and even my son who is an ex employee of Sprint talked about this Curve being a phone I would love...Of course I had to buy one because people love their bbs....after owning it since Monday I can see why. The phone has been flawless and works without me loading a different ROM...I am impressed...its a keeper for me which equals about 6 to 9 months for the best of them.

Well I took the plunge and am giving up my Q for the Curve. Has anyone else switched from the q9c to the Curve? How does it compare? I am hoping it's a little snappier than the q. I hope I can easily port my contacts over also.

I go through about 5-7 different phones per year because I get bored real easily. I love this phone a lot, I liked the Q9C but it was too bulky and felt like a brick in my pocket.:headbang2

I've been using BlackBerries since the 6510, all being on iDen. My last one, the 7100i I had used for close to 2 years. I liked that phone, by far it was the best iDen one made. I didn't want to leave iDen, but I wanted/needed something new. 2 years with a phone is the longest I have ever lasted.

By FAR the trackball is the coolest feature. It blows the Thumbwheel out of the water. My uncle played with it today and couldn't believe it. He's on ATT with the 8700 and he's was impressed. I didn't think they could come up with something else and if I would have known how much cooler and easier it was I wouldn't have lasted with the 7100i for as long.

I dislike the automatic brightness on the screen. I like my screens bright at all times. I am not completely turned off by it, I'm trying to see if I can get used to it. I don't like how you can't just hit a button and go into Speaker Phone. But rather have to click the ball and activate the speaker phone, it was real handy just hitting a button the the iDen ones and going right to Speaker phone was very convenient.

I've only had a few quirks. Whenever I dial *2 it says it's activating and when I disconnect it says it's failed. I don't know what that is about because when I first called it went through the update and said everything was successful.

I've heard people complaining about battery life on iDen for forever now, but my 7100i blew this thing to pieces in Battery life. By 4pm this needs a charge. I am hoping that will level out since I have been playing with it so much since I got it.

I don't know if it's just a mental block with not having an antenna, but the signal fluctuates constantly. I can't recall a time that I have gotten full bars, but it's always jumping around. Haven't dropped a call yet (usage 1:04:21:14 whatever the hell that means), but there's been a few times that it's gotten garbled and I was worried the call would drop. I think there might be something wrong with it honestly. Because I've used it in several different towns since I've gotten it and today I was even in a different state 130 miles away and I never seen full bars so it's not just the area I am in.

When in a phone call it sounds really good, a lot better than I remember CDMA sounding like. The handset has great voulme and clarity when listening to other people.

SprintTV is fing useless. All I get is an initial image and then it's a slideshow and all movement just makes trails. Again I tried this in a different area had the same results.

My previous BlackBerries were slow and the Curve still has some significant lag in it. Like when you go from one of the folders (Communities, IM, Entertainment) getting back to the Home Screen there's significant lag. But it's a million times faster than the other iDen BlackBerries i've had.

Overall I am thrilled with the phone, it's a major improvement of the 7100i and I don't regret for 1 second giving up Direct Connect for this or even spending $179 + Shipping. (Hopefully the guy did the instant credit.)

First time BB owner here and my first impression was:

It's same.
Keyboard feels cheap and too plastic feel

After using it for a hour. The keyboard I wish was rubber keys but thats ok its not. I have not found anything I didn't like. Its so stable and have not had to restart phone b/c it was being slow like WinMo. Sound quality is good. Email is great. Sprint Nav is great. All and all its a great phone and I will have for a long time and will most likely continue to buy BB.

Well... I am coming from a basic flip phone to smart phone. Just got it yesterday and getting to know the curve. I know its going to take some time because its been a while since i last had a bb. Just like most on here. I have the same complaint but i'm excited to find out all that this phone can do. The data still doesn't work. So i'll be calling the bb support. Hopefully over the weekend i'll get familiarized with this device :). Wish me luck otherwise i'm going back to a flippin flip phone ;)

Actually... there is a button on the Curve to go into speaker phone. It's the key next to the return (enter) button that has the speaker and money key on it. When you press that button in phone mode it switches between speaker phone and handset. Hope that helps you out a ton! :tu:

I must agree with you about the keyboard. Coming from a great keyboard on the 8830 to this plastic one-piece feeling keyboard on the Curve is disheartening. Almost feels like I'm playing with a child's toy vs a high quality (or high priced) phone.

But don't get me wrong.... I'm on the BB train forever! I love BlackBerries. I was sold with the 8830 and even more with the 8330. When they release the next BB with q-chat I'll jump all over that too as long as it keeps a small form factor like the Curve.

CONGRATS to all new Curve owners. I know you'll love ya berries! Remember, don't think the curve will be anything like a Q or Touch! Think differently.

I just got the curve and there is no browser or anything showing up. Also under instant messaging all that is listed is blackberry messenger. I thought aim and yahoo was loaded. Or do I have to get the $30 data plan for the apps to show up on the phone?

I think thats the only thing I dislike about the phone..... love everything else!!!!

Isn't there a feature where you can manually adjust the screen brightness, just like any other phone?

Could this be your service area?

Again, check your coverage area on Sprint.com to see how the EVDO is.

I finally got my curve up and running. Blackberriess are nice phone. I came from the touch. The touch was good but it did freeze alot recently. The Curve is really sleek IMO. I am still learning how to use it. The case that came with it isn't much of a case. I will have to find one.

I have not taken the little plastic off the screen yet but I will once I find a screen protector. I will be working hard this weekend to get the curve going.

Coming from an 8830, I think I like the 8830 a little more (minus having to restart after losing BIS coverage due to an OS issue).

Maybe I need a little more time to get used to it, but I like the bigger feel of the 8830.

The 8830 is bigger than the Curve? Really? I held an 8830 in a Sprint store the other day and I thought it was smaller in person than I had seen online. So I was expecting the Curve to be a little bigger. Hmm, I hope the Curve is not too small.

Yea, strangely enough I do like the bigger feel. I can text faster on the 8830 than the 8330. Again this may just be a "getting used to" factor. I went from Mogul to Touch last year, and didn't have any issues other than losing the QWERTY. So generally speaking, going to a smaller phone has yet to be an issue for me in the past.

I didn't have any problems with the Verizon Q (first version) when it first came out--form factor-wise. Perhaps my preference has changed since then. :thought:

I know what you mean. I went from the 8830 back to my 8703 because I liked the bigger 8703. I do have a curve now and I think I'm starting to get used to it but IMO the 8703 feels better and is easier to type on than all other bb's.
