Im am curious to know who is using the Curve without the $30 BB plan because thats what I plan on doing once I get it. Hopefully that will be soon. How are you guys liking it without the BB Plan? Besides the push email do you feel like your missing anything that would justify the extra $30 a month

I love this conversation...
Using the Blackberry without a BB plan is like buying a Porsche and then putting the motor from a Yugo in it.
Sure it looks cool, and it will get you from point a to point b but this is a no frills ride.
You can't see how well it handles because it has no get up and go, you spend most your time coasting.
You find yourself getting out of situations all the time becuase it's something you can't do. Sprint Nav? no I have Yugo Nav. or I can show you my dot as it moves around on a map, but it don't speak directions.
Serriously if you make the BB investment, get the plan!

You really didn't state anything that makes me say "OMG I have to get the BB plan".
Spoken directions can be done with other software, and push email is not that big of a deal for me.
What specifically is in the Blackberry plan that makes it worth it? I can't find anything that spells out some killer features of it. It's like paying to use AOL through your local DSL provider. It still takes you to the same internet so why does it matter?

you get push e-mail, pin messaging, gps included, unlimited text, and navigation, and access to sprint tv.

There we go. That makes much more sense. They don't detail any of that on sprint.com where I was looking.
So what we are talking about is BIS right?

they do detail it, its just a mess to find. the easiest way to find it is to act like a new subscriber, choose a BB as your phone and choose a power pack plan, then it lists the different BB plans available and there features.

I think the key is it don't take you to the same internet. In your example it would be using aol 2.0 with the winsock hack but enexpectedly breaking aol itself. Now yes you can get to the internet but much of the content don't work, and those aol features, they don't work either.
Oh wish it was 1996 again.

i have free power vision (sprint tv access also) and free texting. i never had a blackberry before..so i wouldn't be able to use the web at all?? all i do is go to espn etc to check scores and use google maps once in a while.
how will the blackberry plan factor into this?

you wouldnt be able to use the BB browser, you would have to load the opera mini alx and cod files onto the device to be able to browse the web.

Is the difficult to do? It would have to be done thru the desktop right?

Not at all. Download it to your Desktop, run it and it will install to your device.
Excuse me, you'll have to transfer it to the device then install it. I don't have my device yet so I can't give you better instructions, but once I get it this morning I can if you like.

As I already use my 8830 (and 7130e previously) without a BB plan, I will be doing the same once I get the Curve. I know all the arguements about getting the plan, and while the BB is still quite functional without BIS, it's just not the same. I get it. The whole point for me is that Sprint won't do like T-Mobile and allow you to add BIS by itself for $10. They want to bundle it with other things. I have SERO, so I already have unlimited internet and text. If I could just add BIS for $10 (like T-Mobile), then I would in a heartbeat. But as of now, it's not worth it enough to me to 1) mess with my plan and 2) pay twice what I am currently paying just for BIS.

Well I think my BB dreams are officially dead. :( After reading and researching I realized that without the BB plan its just too limited. Yes i can use Opera to get online but I cannot set up any email accounts, download anything OTA, cant use IM and pic messaging (does the Curve have pic messaging?). I have all access now with my Touch on my current data plan as as much as I love the Curve I cant go backwards and my budget right now wont let me spend a extra $30 a month if i dont absolutely need to. I guess im stuck with Windows Mobile lol

You're right in that you can't download OTA, but pretty much anything I want to install i can do via desktop manager. No there is not pic messaging, but yes there is IM (I use JiveTalk... best client IMHO).
