I just sent our new CEO an email. dan@sprint.com I'm sure you've seen the commercials. I encourage everyone who would like MMS on our smartphones to do the same. Keep it professional and polite. Perhaps the "masses" will help persued him.

So you mean if you have a Blackberry and a Simply everything plan you can't send pix or video messages? That's crazy.
If you can't then I would bet you could still take a pic or video and e-mail it to someone right?

Yeah I have the option of sending in an email, sending to one of my BB Messenger contacts, or sending to FaceBook.

Sprint has said that MMS is coming this summer (to Blackberry). So we shall wait and see...
The Curve has MMS capabilities, but Sprint has to enable to service books for it to work on their network. So once the network side works, then your Curve will MMS in theory.

I feel silly asking this because I'm sure the process for a Blackberry is no different than with other MMS incapable phones, but the trick is to simply know the email address for your recipients phone, such as xxxxxxxxxx@vzwpix.com, correct? If so, I suppose the greater difficulty is to get your contacts to remember they must sent their MMS messages to you at your @pm.sprint.com address.
I'm hopefully getting my first Blackberry (Curve) very soon and I want to be sure that this is the case. It's too bad it doesn't have MMS, but at the same time I'm not a proponent of Sprint's regular Picture Mail product.
Can someone confirm that this is indeed how things work in this MMS-free scenario? Thanks!

There is actually a huge difference.
For Example:
With my Treo, I could havd a threaded conversation with someone and simple attach "media" to the next message I wanted to send to that person. With the Blackerries now, I have to sent a seperate e-mail to that person

I've been utilizing this way to send picturemails to people. However, I'm learning that 95% of them never get to their intended people. But when I utilize the same method online oin front of a computer then it does go through just not through my bb. I wonder why this is an ongoing issue. When I talked to someone in BB support they told me the samething that it will more than likely be something that is released this summer. I'd still put my money on it being done via a software update. I went thru this same exact issue before with the 7100i and they enabled MMS with a software update.

What irks me is that my old Nextel 7100i had MMS that worked great but all these new Sprint ones don't.
Yep, thats the phone that I am using right now and I was about to go get the curve until I read this..
No MMS = waiting to get a new phone for me..

Finding out the mms isn't the hard or disappointing thing for me. I've tried MANY times using MMS addresses for my friends and then I would add them to their contact listing to make it easier. However, 99% of my friends don't get their pictures I send them. When I log online in front of a computer and use the mms through my email online, it goes through just fine.

Interestingly enough, I haven't had any luck forwarding sent emails while logged into my computer. My recipients (Verizon customers) still don't seem to get them. I wonder if the attachments are getting blocked or if the size is simply too large? Anyone else have this problem at this level?

Also to add to my comment above, this happens no matter WHO the person is, regardless of carrier, EVEN SPRINT! At minimum, a sprint customers MMS address is 1111111111@pm.sprint.com. However, if I do this in front of my computer through my same email, the person will get it, just not through my Blackberry. And i know the picture is getting uploaded and such, because i'll get the sent message popping up on my BB saying it's been sent or delivered. I don't get it. I can send pictures, e-mail to e-mail from my BlackBerry, so I know it's not Blackberry crippling anything. I thought this was the issue. I'm thinking it's something on sprints end that is crippling customers with Blackberries to send to otyher people.
W/e of course I'm only one person that is willing to say nsomething about it, but sprint has a habit of not listening to its customers and doing whatever the heck they want to do anyways.
w/e what options are we left with anyways.
Does anyone else know if the other carriers have the same issue? This would be something interesting to look into and see what the end result is. Any TAKERS??????:thought::thought::thought::thought::t hought::thought::thought::thought::thought::though t::boohoo::boohoo:

I just switched over to Sprint from T Mobile in anticipation of having a curve with a Video camera (T mobile's doesn't until a software update) and with Sprint being out of Curve's right now I ordered one and am waiting on it. Now after reading all of this I think I may cancel my order and go back to T Mobile. Their Curve's have full MMS Capabilities. I can MMS pictures, ringtones, full songs, pretty much whatever on their network to any network. I send my buddy on Verizon ringtones that I made on my PC all the time. I think having a BB without the MMS capabilities is pretty much worthless even if my plan with T Mobile is 20 dollars more a month.

Im hearing that MMS will come with the Sprint 4.5 update, and since the GSM version is out now, it should be only a matter of time.
Sprint is releasing the WM picture mail update in July. So i think it should all come together by July, lets hope. Although being able to send files via PIN and BBM is IMO betting then MMS (Downside not everyone has bb's lol).

Honestly, Sprint should have had this done before the Curve hit the market! As soon as the decision was made to bring the first BB with a camera to thier network, MMS should have been active from day one! I still don't get how I can send "real" PM from a phone that costs $50, bit here I am with a phone that retails for $600 and I cannot, sucks!

Yes you can send pictures via PIN and BBM, however, the file size is limited to 15k. I thought I got around this. I tried sending a picture through just a bbm conversation that I was having and I got stopped saying that i was limited to 15k. So I went right to the picture itself, thinking I was getting around this limit, and told it to send to "messenger contact." Well infact it did, however, my device redid the picture do that it could fit at or under the 15k limit. SO NO you cannot send just a plain picture.

But you need to keep in mind that "$600 smartphones" are now being marketed to both business and personal customers. If you are going to sell to individuals, you need to include all the features that people use and are available on the device. As I said before, Sprint dropped the ball by not having MMS available for the Curve on day one!

I have gotten around the MMS "snafu" with Sprint. I just use an email to the phone vs. true MMS option.
Problem arises that you need to know what "carrier" the recipient has on the other end, either vtxt.com, sprintpcs.com, tmobi.net etc.

It worked for ATT & VERIZON based cell users.
Indeed cumbersome, but does work ok. Basically your bypassing the MMS and using the BIS email functionality.
I hope the 4.5 code or soon thereafter Sprint enables the MMS functions. A friend of mine has the 8330 on Verizon, and he has MMS.

Make sure you're not blocking any text messages, go check in your my sprint account under "my online tools" and click on "open text messages" then go to settings
I did include area code and i checked my account online and nothing is blocked. :frustrate

Ok, I think I know what it is. I was playing around with some settings and now my gmail email is working to all carriers for pic sending.
What I noticed was, when I logged into sprint's blackberry site, they had my blackberry login pass as my email auth pass for my email accounts. So when I've been trying to send pics as attachments they wouldnt go through. After i entered the correct password, I sent a pic to my girlfriend, whos on VZW, and it went through like butter.
My advice is to go to sprint.blackberry.net and double check to make sure the password to auth your email accounts aren't auto-filled with the incorrect pass. ;D

But if you can send and receive normal emails...... wouldnt that mean the correct password is entered????

That pretty much sums up my mood right now. YAY! IF ANYONE ELSE IS HAVING THE PROBLEM I HAD READ THIS:
Not sure why I didn't think about this earlier, but when I tried for the zillionth time to send a picture mail to my pm.sprintpcs.com email - I decided to change my Default From email to my sprint.blackberry.net email address which I don't use for anything, it's just in there because the Spring lady set it up. IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It must be something with my yahoo email. I don't know if it's a setting within yahoo, or within blackberry. Anyone else able to send via their yahoo account? Regardless, at least i can make it work, just gotta change the Send From option.
:wiggle: :ty: :woohoo:

I think you have to have POP enabled. I know I had to on my Gmail for it to work. Either way, nice work. ;D

aha. that makes sense! i might upgrade my yahoo to get rid of all the Spam I'm currently getting and then it will enable me to "enable POP"
Thanks!

Sprint has said that MMS is coming this summer (to Blackberry). So we shall wait and see...
The Curve has MMS capabilities, but Sprint has to enable to service books for it to work on their network. So once the network side works, then your Curve will MMS in theory.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaand its Fall
we have no MMS :(

Is Sprint ever going to enable picture messaging on the Blackberry Curve? If you are not aware Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, Suncom, and Alltel have picture messaging on their PDA phones. Are your PDA customers not a priority to you?
I could understand if camera phones just came out that there might be some issues getting this feature rolled out but they have been around since 2003. Your customers and stockholders simply deserve a better effort to keep up with the times.
Thanks,

I'm a bit confused with Sprint's picture mail. I used to have an 8320 from TMO and MMS as we all know, was provided. Now that I am with Sprint, and if I use the (phone#@carrier.com) to send a picture message to, they receive it as a SMS text with embedded hyperlink.
However, if the person I am sending this picture to does NOT have a data plan, won't they be charged to pickup any pictures I send to them from their carrier?
And if I have this all wrong, someone please explain..

When you get a link to the picture, you won't be charged to follow it to the pic. It's included in the picmsg addon. Some sprint phones would decide if the pic was too big to be sent directly to the phone or not.. I had a RAZR2 V9M that would deliver smaller images straight to the handset, but bigger ones would show up as a link.
As for your friends receiving it as a link, that has to do with how their carrier receives it. I know that the people I send MMS to on VZW never get a link, and the people on Cricket do.

I read on here to send a picture that I can send it to myself then forward it to someone...well I have been doing that. It worked the first few times I did it but now when I email myself, I says that is sends but I never receive it to my phone so I cant forward it along.
