View Full Version : How Many of You Purchasing the Curve Will Be New to the Blackberry Experience?

I had a BB 7520 years ago for like 2 weeks. I wasn't familiar with smartphones, pdas, etc. and I wasn't ready to make the leap back then. Since that time I've had treos and a WM device. I will consider this pretty much a first experience. I wonder how many of you will be new to the BB experience and will be learning with others come next week when you get your Curves.

First timer here. I've been reading up on Crackberry's lecture series "Blackberry 101 (http://forums.crackberry.com/f3/blackberry-101-how-lecture-series-4716/)" in the meantime.

I am new to smart phones period. I have played with many..but I have been kinda stuck in my ways and not wanting to mess with them. Now I am very excited.

This will be my first BB as well. I hope it works better for me than the Touch has.

Agreed. Same phone I am coming from.

What draws you to the BB platform from the touch? They are much different phones in terms of functionality and target audience.

I have had many smartphones and my 8830 has been the most functional and reliable so far. But I do a lot of e-mail and messaging, which is the BBs virtue. I am curious to know what entices Touch users about the Curve or BBs in general.

Nothing really draws me towards it. I've had nothing but problems out of the Touch such as it freezing up, not coming out of standby, and cutting on/off as it pleases. It may not be a Touch thing (although I did not have this problem with either my IC502 or IC902) but, I've also made and received calls that I would have to tell the person to let me call them back because it have so much static in the call. The Curve, to me, is just another phone to try and see if it satisfies my needs.

I've had some problems out of my Touch. Freezing, cutting on/off, not coming out of standby, static in calls. I, like you, send alot of emails and texts daily. I've always heard BB was the phone to have for this. I think it work out alot better for me in the long run than the Touch has. I will still have my Touch but, will have it swapped over to my personal line and the Curve will be activated as my company phone.

The Curve will be my first BB experience.. I'm going back to school for a grad degree starting next fall and figured in the academic world e-mail is king, so it was a good time to take the leap. Can't wait til Monday!!

I'm also coming from the Touch. I have no real problems with the Touch, but the constant need to pull out the stylus to write or type got real old. I'm getting the touch because of the size and feel of the keyboard. My co-worker has the at&t curve and I loved the "feel" of the phone. I have also been looking at the crackberry 101 and sprints 101 site.

I too came from the Touch...But to the already 8830.

And let me tell you guys, you will love what Blackberry brings to the table, plus the rock-solid OS.

I plan to buy the Curve in June and this will be my first BB and PDA phone ever. Like Mike above, it's a long time coming for me too. I work in Broadcasting and communications so I should have had one of these a few years ago. It will be so valuable for me to be able to have instant messaging and e-mail on the go, not to mention mobile internet. My productivity will go through the roof, I can't wait! I know I'll have no problem learning the world of BB based on my technology background so I'm sure I'll have my Curve loaded up nicely in no time. :tu:

The battery life on the touch is extremely disappointing for me. I purchased multiple wall chargers and the like but I don't get to use my touch for much more than a 10-20 texts and a few short phone calls before it needs recharging. Everyone recommends an extended battery but most of them change the size of the device. I'm also looking forward to a more stable OS. The lack of keyboard on the touch wasn't a problem for me.

When I jump on the Blackberry bandwagon, it will be my first time with RIM products. The stability of the operating system is what will be drawing me.

I had a Treo for about two days last year until I realized I didn't need it and the thing froze for no reason. Now that I am out of college, working and starting a small business on the side the necessity has ramped up to the point where one would be beneficial.

Its our first BB for my wife and I. Very excited and cant wait i get it next week. Im sick of Treo freezing and handicapped bluetooth function(not working very well and quality is poor). Hopefully BB Curve will provide everything to near perfection.

First time BB user. :wavey:

I have been waiting for a reason to get a Smartphone PDA.
~
One of the guys at work got the ATT Curve and I saw how compact & yet very functional.
:tu:
I need to text page for both business & personal use. :bang:

The full size keyboard was the one the biggest reason for 8330. I was almost ready to get 8130 Pearl but the Curve came out just in time. :D

I had a Blackberry when I was in field but this is my first time as an owner for personal usage.

I am excited to learn something new and see why people go crazy over their curve.

first timer for any real use of bb as a PDA. For over a year now I have been carrying various treos for phone and PDA use.

My company issued balckberry 7290? on cingular for A3 service software and lotus notes mail so I have been carrying both.

I have never used a bb for calendar, contacts or anything like that. IMO with the older berries the palm treo blew it away.

So now I switch to the curve and hopefully I can get my company to put A3 software and push mail on it and stay on sprint so I can get rid of my 7290 and the treo.

I started with the Treo in '02. Have graduated to the PPC and am fed up with the instability and Sprint discontinued the PCS business connection push email service, so this will be my first BB. Most all coworkers have either the Curve, 8830 or Pearl. All have excellent experience and they are jealous of the additional features that Sprint provides with Telenav GPS as well as BB Maps. The TV/Radio is a huge differentiator and will help me in travelling when I'm faced with the typical delays in the airport.

This will be my first BB. Have been a treo user for 5 years, and am totally fed up with my treo 700p, it is a POS. Constantly have to reboot it, freezes up at least once a day, text messages don't come through... I could go on and on about how bad the 700p is. Since my contract is up I am going to order th 8330 as soon as I see what color it is. I prefer the black color. Best wishes to you all!

I'm a first timer and am super excited to start the blackberry experience. I'm a little concerned about being a Mac only guy, however. I've heard horror stories about the crappy Mac software. Maybe there will be new software announced at WES. Makes sense if RIM is serious about competing with iPhone.

This will be my 3rd BB device. Started with the 7520 on Nextel then switched to the 8703e on Sprint when it was released.

I would be more than happy to help others with questions they have on BB's.

This will be my first BB.

I can finally justify using one at work now so it is time...

I have been with sprint for about 5 years now and I have only had only 2 different phones: My current Sanyo MM-7500 that I've had 2 years, before that I had a Samsung VGA-1000 for over 3 years.
So needless to say I am ready for the world of Blackberry!

I just hope I can get the same mileage out of my Curve that I've had with other phones...

First BB, coming from Treo 700p.

Main reason, treo battery performance is poor.

I hope the BB Curve's PIM is good if not robust.

For those of you new to the experience, here are two SU forum links that might be of assistance after you get your Curves tomorrow:

This one helps with those who have Mac's and want fully automated iCal, Google Calendar, and BlackBerry Calendar synchronization.

http://www.sprintusers.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1803764&postcount=6

And this one will help for people who have Gmail or most other email providers. It helps with the common problem of some BlackBerry users receiving the sent messages that they send returning to them as new messages in their own Inbox:

This will be my first BB....I consider myself a gadget person....I have the PPC 6700, Palm 700wx, Palm Centro, Palm 755P (those are Sprint)....Sidekick Color, Sidekick II, Sidekick III (those are T-Mobile), & the IPhone.

Now, it's time so start selling off some of those, well, I'm gonna keep the Palm 755P as a backup.

My reason for the leap to the Blackberry is I am tired of the constant freezing up my 75P does, it reboots sometimes when I try to open an attachment, & gives me error msgs when trying to access links in my email msgs. Only down side to getting the Curve is I have shelled out a lot of money on apps that are not Blackberry compatible on my Treo, but anyway, I am looking fwd to my hopefully special delivery today!!

This is my first BB, coming from the Touch, I just didn't like the phone and everyone had something bad to say about it in the forums, I hear the BB OS is better and more stable so I decided to go BB instead of Windows... I hope that [I] will be as enthused as all of you seem to be once I get to play with it and get used to it.

I feel like an old timer.. I've went 7250 --> 7130 (a joke) --> 8703e --> 8830 --> 8130 --> 8330

I just freaking love the blackberry platform.

This will be my first BB. I used to carry one for work about 5 years ago don't remember the model number but it was on nextel. So its been long enough for me to forget most of the functionality part of the blackberry. The reason for me to move in to a blackberry from my sanyo 8300 is because i need a smart phone. Mostly for contacts and calendar appointments and stuff. My memory has been slacking lately and really need something which would remind me of stuff and not just show up as a calendar even like my 8300 does right but also give me a brief description of what i'm suppose to do or what is the appointment about. Also would be nice to see my emails from anywhere. I ordered mine on the 12th. I've been reading SU forums almost daily and trying to absorb most of the useful info about the blackberries. My co-worker carries a curve from att. So he'll get me up to speed and then there is the information highway :) such as this forum. Lets see what happens when i get my curve. Oh the other thing i need to mention is. Everyone once in a while I do go to gym and would like a mp3 player of some sort. I've contemplated on getting the ipods but thought that if i could have it all on one device it would be sweet. since I have to carry a work cell, personal cell. Now i'm going to try to get my work to pay for the data plan. Hopefully they'll go along with and offset my monthly bill. Wish me luck :)

I was going to be a first BB user, but I had Sprint send me a 8830 in the meantime to get me acquainted to the BB. I'm coming from a Mogul, and I've had the 700p and 700wx. I've also had the 650. So far, I'm enjoying the 8830. My Curve came today. I can't wait to get home, activate it, and start toying around with it. I've been reading all of the Curve threads today to see who is doing what, and get some ideas on programs.
