So I chat with someone on Sprint to do an ESN swap from my Treo to my old Nokia 6225, because it might be a rough weekend and I don't want to risk damaging my treo. Anyway, after trying to do the online esn swap and it says to chat, So i chat. He says he can't do it. I figure OK, hes probably just incompitent like some echat reps are, so I call Tier 2.

They spend about 5 minutes tapping on the computer trying to do it, then says he can't because Im on SERO and it only allows me to stay on an EVDO plan and so I can only have EVDO phones on my plan. He offered to put me on free incoming, and I said no because it wasn't as good a deal as SERO

um, WHAT. This is probably one of the more ridiculous things I have heard in my life. I was recently transfered from P2K to Ensemble, I used to have regular vision phones on my account with no problem. Why now am I unable to do it?

I pretty much have a box of old phones that I have collected over the years, and now I'm told if theyre not EVDO I can't activate them? Um, what the heck?

Does this mean if you have SERO with a vision phone, you can't activate an EVDO phone, or once you activate an EVDO phone you can't go back? This would be fine, but Sprint STILL sells 1x phones, like the uber popular Rumor.

This better just be a glitch because it makes no sense.

When I had my PPC6700 activated, I had called to activate a non EVDO phone and was able to do it. However this was in the P2K system. I haven't tried to activate a non EVDO phone on Ensemble yet. Hope someone can shed some light on this because am curious too.

it is a p2k/ensemble issue. Before my conversion to Ensemble earlier this month, I could switch to 1X phones with no problem.

This better just be a glitch, or i'll be seriously POed

I'm in Ensemble and I've been able to switch from a Touch, to a 3100, to a 3200 and now on a 755p with no hiccups...

But I think it is possible. Because I had a non EVDO phone on one of my lines before when I was migrated to Ensemble. And everything went find, I didn't have issues with anything, bill, plan, nothing at all.

Technically the SEROEVDO and SEROVISION plans are two different plans with each data speed hard coded into the plan. Switching from an EVDO phone to a 1x'er technically requires the plans switched (from the EVDO SERO to the VISION SERO). Granted, in p2k you could force the ESN swap through, which was the case with people that had grandfathered vision plans and they activated EVDO phones. However I don't think there will be any work around at all in Ensemble unfortunately. Email dan@sprint.com

In P2K you had to either be placed on the SERO with 1xRTT or SERO with EVDO. The question is, does SERO with 1xRTT exist in Ensemble?

Natuicaboy503, I think your wrong. Read my post #6. I think its all about if the REP knows what code(s) to put in.

If you in Ensemble. Did you try to do through the website? Did it have the option for "activate phone now"?

I agree with you, it does depend on the rep that knows what to do. Sometimes things went through okay from p2k to ensemble. Some migrations weren't audited towards the end and things got pushed through that weren't suppose to. From the time I left sprint in this past year, I'm just saying that ensemble (in FDT) there was no work around to get them back onto EVDO or vice versa.

I truly hope there is a way and that I'm wrong. I think all data should be interchangeable.

Yes. It said it couldn't do it. It said I should chat with a rep in order to complete it. I find this pretty upsetting. I deffinitely am going to call them today and complain.

OP: Thank you for your patience sir. You now are on the newest available SERO plan in that you can freely swap ESNs to/from a EvDo to non-EvDo phones.

The plan is affective as of today, and all add-ons have been kept during this plan change.

Glad I could help you today. Hope it works out good. If you have any problems, or questions feel free to PM me.

This makes me mad, having to struggle with situations like this when I was in the corporate retail store. SNI.SRD, if sprint knows there are plans like this that can extremely hinder a customers use of the plan, why don't they systematically swap them to the current working code of plan so a customer won't run into stupid problems, if it's exactly the same of course.

I hated having to remove grandfathered codes or tell people they had to change their entire plans to entertain new services. It was extremely frustrating.

Nauticaboy,

I am not exactly sure. But we are more than willing to switch plans upon the request of a customer who need the plan swapping to be done.

And most grandfathered features will switch plans just fine.

You really should relay the message of being willing to help customers with SERO plans. When I worked for sprint, signing up friends and family was fine, however now that I'm not working with sprint, if they have problems, customer service has been extremely negative with questions that arise about their plans and/or ESN swaps. I've had to call in for them countless times to make sure they weren't swapped onto free incoming plans, which somehow seem to be the norm for reps wanting to switch plans of people with sero plans. I won't get off topic any more but for how many hours I've put in just trying to keep things the same and not change, I feel like I should go back to work!

I'm truly glad there are other employees out there that actually understand the products and services that we had and and offered our customers!

I need to be able to do this with my SERO plan also, as long as it won't reset my contract, which happened last time I went to a vision phone. :( If someone could help out I'd appreciate it so much.
