I just recently started using the Sprint SmartView connection manager for my air card. Previously I had been using the older gray connection manager. When using that connection manager I was able to also connect to a wireless network or a wired network. Now with the SmartView connection manager when I connect to another network it disconnects me from my cdma connection. If I try to connect to the CDMA connection while connected to a network it says
"An External Connection is already present, conecting is not allowed".

Does anyone know a work aroudn for this? My main problem is that plugging my Mogul into my computer is detected as a wired connection. Also I often want to connect to another computer in an adhoc or cross over fashon while using my aircard, for a couple of reasons, one inet connection sharing of the air card (which is what I assumet they are trying to prevent) and also for gaming or other peer to peer activities while traveling.

Thanks in advance

- Right click in the main SmartView window.
- Click on "Settings".
- Click the "Rules Engine" tab.
- Check the "Use Rules Engine" if not checked already.
- Under "Connection Maintenance" choose "Maintain estalished connection regardless of other network availability".
- Click "Ok"

That worked for me.

Somehow I never noticed you replied to this. I wish I had because this has been frustrating me for months. However when I look I cant find the "Rules Engine" tab in settings. Any ideas where it is hiding these days?

Let's try again. This is for the latest SmartView, Version 1.18.0003.0.

- Click on "Tools" in the top menu of the first window that has the "Connect" button.
- Click on "Settings..."
- Click the "Rules Engine" tab
- Check the "Use Rules Engine" if not checked already.
- Under "Connection Maintenance" choose "Maintain estalished connection regardless of other network availability".
- Click "Ok"

If you still have issues, you may have to also adjust the folowing:
In the "Rules Engine" window, under "Network Connection Options", click on the down arrow for "When automatically switching technologies:" and change it to "Keep previous connection open".

Hope that helps!

I am having problems locating the rules tab in v 1.20.0016.0. Is there any update on how to disable this stupid auto disconnect in the new smart view software?

I wrote a long reply and lost it! So the short version is that I installed and tested the newer SmartView version 1.21.0006.0 and while the "Rules Engine" setting no longer seem to be available, it may not be necessary, as I was able to use multiple connections without an issue. (Sprint card, WiFi, and LAN)

I also noted that the "Help" must not have been updated, as it still shows 9 tabs, while the actual Settings now have only 7 tabs with "Rules Engine" and "WiFi" tabs missing.

My version was preventing multiple connections while maintaining the wireless connection. I used the version that came with my device. I found the website had a newer version with the rule engine put back in. So i un-installed the version that came with the device and used the sprint.com version. All is well now.
