View Full Version : Retention: Does this sound reasonable to you?

Some background:
We have had 3 Sprint lines for 5+ years, maybe have called once a year, if that. Two of the phones are out of contract and the other phone is going to be out of contract at the end of the week.

Right now, I have the following plan:
Line 1:
$50 - Free and Clear 700, Shared
$5 - 7PM-7AM Nights and weekends, Shared
$15 - Unlimited Power Vision Pack
$7 - Insurance
$0 - Unlimited Text
$0 - Mobile to Mobile, Shared

Line 2:
$20 - Free and Clear 700, Shared
$7 - Insurance

Line 3:
$20 - Free and Clear 700, Shared
$5 - Unlimited Vision Pack
$7 - Insurance

We also get a 17% discount through employer.

I called Sprint last night and they said they could offer me a 500 minute shared plan, 200 additional minutes for each line, unlimited text and vision for the other two phones for $80 a month, so that'd be $101-17%=$83.83 (compared to $135-17%=$112.05) once I add the equipment insurance. So basically a $28.22 monthly savings, good, but not great.

As far as the phones go, we all want to upgrade, we want a Touch, Mogul and S1. She said we could get them for the internet prices, instant rebates, so $249, $199 and $19, respectively.

Neither of these seem like a great deal and while I don't want to screw Sprint over, I think they could do a little better.

I saw this post:

1000 Shared ATM 50.00
Free Roaming
Free 7pm Nights and Weekends
2nd line Free
3rd line Free
500 Free Text Messages on each Line
Pick 3 Free on each Line
10.00 Vision on Line 1
10.00 Vision on Line 2
18% Employee Discount

So I am thinking I will ask for a deal like that. And for the phones, Touch, Mogul, S1, asking to pay $200, $150 and $0, respectively.

My brother and I really like the iPhones and keep talking about going to AT&T, however we do like Sprint and could be convinced to stay, So does that seem like a lot, or does it seem reasonable?

If you are willing to pay more for a plan, you may get more of a break on the phones. There is alot of variables there but my suggestion is shop around and see what the other carriers are willing to offer you price-wise. Then, compare the offers and speak to account services again. You really want to find something that works for both you and Sprint as a company.

Also, as I remember, ATT does not allow I-Phones to be on a shared plan so you would end up paying more than you are right now. Just something you may want to keep in mind.

Thanks. I'd rather save on the plans than the phone. I'm just asking if that sounds possibly do-able of if I'm asking for way too much.

The lady I talked to at AT&T said there is a shared plan we could do with the iPhones. I realize that it will cost more going to them, however then I'd have the iPhone, the phone I truly want. At the same time though, I'm not that hard pressed to have one. It'd be nice to have one device rather than my iTouch and my Sprint phone. And if it's a significant enough savings, I'd be willing to stay and deal with having two devices.

I suggest you to call Retentions a couple of more times and mention that you are considering iphone. It's all depends on the rep that you talk to. Some rep will give away the store to keep you while others may be really grumpy. But if you get a really nice rep, try to work out a deal that accetpable to you. Try not to be too greedy.

Well I talked to retentions last night and that's the offer she gave me. I told her that "I wasn't sure and I'd have to sit down and figure it out", she asked if I'd like her to call me today, and I said "that would be great", so I told her after 5 would be good. I am hoping to hear back from her, she was super nice. I am going to ask her about seeing if I can get a better offer, like something I posted above.

It can never hurt to ask for these nice plans. And with your track record, I think you have a better chance than most to receive what suits you. Good luck!

Hopefully you got a good rep, and it sounds like you did. If she is good, she will comb through your account and figure out, as far as a plan, what is going to work for you. Remember, Sprint has to make a profit too, so usually, if it makes business sense, we can do it.:deal:

Personally I like the iPhones too - I love my iPod Touch which is basically the same thing without the phone and the crappy ATT network. However, the problem is that you will end up paying a lot more for the phones (no discount) and a lot more for service. So you have to decide if it's worth it to get the iPhone features. Personally I prefer a flip "phone" and use the Touch for everything else.

As for your retention plan, it's definitely better than your old plan. You could ask for one of the standard retention plans: $50/1000 anytime minutes and free AAP. I think they would add a 3rd AAP for $10. But by the time you add on vision and text messaging you would be back at $80/mo or higher.

As other have suggested, your best option will be to call back, ask about the $50/1000 plan and then see what you can get on reducing the vision charges (they will often go 1/2 price or free on the AAPs). I wouldn't worry as much about text as you can usually get some type of free texts through ecare or subsequent calls. Ditto for the pick-3.

You can easily save $21/mo by dropping the "insurance". I have never needed it. If you lose or break one of the new phones, you'll still have the old ones as backup or can easily replace them by buying one on craigslist. "Insurance" of this type is a complete waste of money for most people. You may even have coverage already if you pay with a credit card that includes such protection.
