I FreeCycled 2 of my phones. Now, they are asking for the "unlock" code? What do I do or what do they have to do? This has never come up for me before.
TIA:irked::confused:

Well, I'm not sure what 'Freecycle' is....but if they were Sprint phones then there really isn't an 'unlock' code. As long as the account the phones were connected to has been cleared and no money is owed on them or anything like that - or weren't reported stolen - then the phones are free to be activated again on Sprint. Or I think there are also prepaid carriers like PagePlus that can use them also but that's going off topic. Unless they were wanting the MSL, I guess.

I did see that but didn't feel like looking into it any deeper than that - I'm lazy...

are you trying to activate them again?

the unlock code is the password for the security menu - yes sprint has these - When your phone was programmed, the lock code is automatically reset to the last 4 digits of your phone number. So give them the last 4 digits of the phone number that was last activated. They shouldn't need this though, because the lock code will be reset when a new subscriber activates the phone with a new number/MSID.

In all of my years with Sprint and more phones than I can remember, I've never encountered this.

Yes-FreeCycle is a good thing :) It saved me many trips to thrift stores to donate stuff I was clearing out before this move!
I sent a cut/paste of Knytphal's post so will see if it helps.
Thanks!

I thought that the only time the phone was locked was if you bought a new phone from CS/Telesales/not in person, and had it mailed to you. Then it was locked and you needed to put that info in.

Like above, I've never ran into that. Not that it doesn't happen, I guess.

What are they trying to do with them?

They want to activate them. I never encountered this which is why I posted here. I will give them the last 4 of the # and hope that helps them. And, before you ask, I don't know who the carrier is that they are using.

again, the last 4 of your phone number is to access the security menu on the phone - not to activate it. If they were Sprint phones, they will only be able to activate the phones on a Sprint account - the sprint phones will not work on any other network. There are no such "UN-LOCK" codes for sprint phones (that I am aware of, other than the ones set up by the user)

I think this only worked on certain models and believe that this procedure is mostly obsolete - I did have two phones that I know for sure that this was true. Probably something that has been phased out with newer technology.

Well when I posted them to offer I did specify they were Sprint phones so we will see what happens. I'll let you know if they give me any added info.

If they want the MSL then they most certainly can use it to unlock the phone. Small time carriers allow unlocked CDMA phones to be activated on their network. That's why it's the MSL.... It's the kudagra (spelling?) of codes for the device.

Coup de grace (pronounced Ku de Gras)

I always knew that the most common meaning was "mercy killing", but I also thought it meant "ultimate", "end all be all", etc....

:D

so is freecycle legit or do they get older phones from the cdma carriers then sell them to potential cricket subscribers to get flashed?

FreeCycle allows you to get rid of ANY USABLE ITEMS! It is not just cellphones but anything that you would normally donate to a thrift store, or even just toss in the trash! I have FreeCycled phones, pdas, printers, fax machines, furniture, books and usable household goods. The purpose is to keep items out of landfills. The phrase "one mans trash is another mans treasure" comes to mind.

just got my centro today and in the quick start guide, it states "To unlock your device, enter the last four digits of your wireless phone number."

I guess I was right. And apparently, this is not old-school programming.
