so im gonna upgrade to a Q but there is a 100 dollar difference between these two phone. ive noticed Q9c has extended battery and runs windows 6. regular Q has short batter life but i have SamsungA900 so im used to charging every day. Regular Q also runs windows 5. what are major changes between these two phones? is there any major upgrade from windows 5 to 6? im gonna use it mainly for texing and msn messenger, but im gonna have a data plan too. ive read the regular Q has a better qwerty pad but they look the same. need your guys opinion. look forward to having a Q or Q9c. thnx

the major differences between the q9c and q, is

1) battery life, which you mentioned

2) GPS the q9c has built in standalone gps

3) Sprint tv, the q9c has it, the q does not.

I wouldn't buy either of them. One of my friends had the Motorola Q and his phone would randomly dial up people by itself. He showed me once by turning on the power and letting the phone sit on his desk. About 5 minutes later, it was calling someone. I think that phone has the poltergeist.

I purchased the Motorola Q9c and it crashed after only having the phone for 1 week and 1/2. I had to do 3 master resets, because it kept cutting off on its own and one day it just crashed and Sprint acted like they didn't want to take it back.

Due to the phone crashing and Sprint piss poor customer service, I'm no longer a Sprint customer.

i think Brett held back a bit cuz the Q9 is really all together a better unit than the old Q, really im surprised they are still trying to sell the old Q and im surprised people would buy it...but I saw a post from today where someone was talking about buying a 6700 so I guess what do I know... I got my Q9 on special @ bestbuy free with new line, if money is an issue just wait till it goes on sale. ive had both Qs and the old one was yukko...

Can you please be more specific about the original Q main problems? I just ordered a SERO one for $29 and I'm still within my trial period so I'd like to know what to look out for to see if I should return it.

I'm upgrading from a Samsung A850, so I can't imagine it's any worse than that!

:fingers:

I dont know about being more specific because we had the old Q so long ago it was when it was 'new', but I remember it wasnt that great....but I can tell you I really like my Q9, I also like my wifes touch and she likes it better than the Q9, we both liked the mogul but it had issues. hope things work out.

I just bought the Q9 after I've have the Q since it was first released. Thanks for the comparison. I look forward to getting my Q9. Will the clip on holster for the Q work for my Q9?

First off, I just want to point out that taking technical advice from an iPhone user is not always the best.

I had a Q before, but quickly upgraded to the Q9c - It was well worth the upgrade. The Q9c has the best battery, quickest GPS, and by far the best reception out of any phone I've ever used. Plus, with 6.1 on it, it runs smooth and looks great. There's no real specific reason to upgrade from WM 5 to 6, or 6 to 6.1, except for the aesthetics and numerous minor upgrades. Nothing too major though.

Honestly, I really do miss it, now that I think about it - I never really had any complaints with it and it always did what I needed it to. I would highly recommend getting the Q9c as your phone over the Q. I can't believe the Q is still being marketed.

The Q9c is better than the Q in every way. And it has the best physical qwerty keyboard of any smartphone, period. Better than Treos, HTC sliders, or Blackberries for that matter.

I had an ACE... wasn't the best phone out there but It did everything I needed it to do. My wife used to have a Moto Q and that thing was a pig. It was slow, buggy and the battery didn't last for more than 8 hours. I have heard nothing but good things about the Q9C though.

Well fortunately or not I'm temporarily stuck with a Q. My Katana's keyboard froze, it no longer responds and at other times, everything moves so it looks like an ADHD phone. So while I can answer an incoming call by flipping the phone open, I cannot make calls. This happened a week ago while I was ill so I didn't really miss being able to use a cell.

Today, I took a meal to an ill friend and her husband overhead me lamenting the loss of my 3 year old phone and he dashed inside emerging with a used Q for me, in exchange for the dinner I've given them. It looks fine, no scratches, etc. So, I brought it home, and successfully swapped the ESN number and now I'm back to making calls. I've never done this before but I followed the instructions and the Q is set up and working. While it's not the best and it's probably as old as the hills I can now get calls. I'm so grateful.

Now, I need that same good luck with finding a reasonably priced HTC Touch for my son who has an old old Sanyo 8300. The hinges are attached somehow by duct tape..

doh! I've never had to duct tape a phone, thank God.

I had a old Sanyo that had a broken hinge. It had to be held closed with a big fat rubberband. And I had to use two hands to make calls to keep it from completely falling apart... Good times. Fortunately it was only like that for about 2 weeks while I was waiting for my new phone discount elidgibility to kick in.

I made sure to add TEP to both children's lines but the one with the duct tape idea has gone through the Sprint/Asurion process several times before where he is left without a phone for 2+ days. When he first went away to college, he did not have transportation to get to the Sprint store and now he just wants a new phone. His cell is his only means of communication while he is at school but he prefers to try all other methods than go through Asurion again. He's waiting for a Touch Pro

The second child started out with a Blade, when this malfunctioned he was sent a Razr and has had several replaced. He once had 3 replaced in 2 weeks. We learned the hard way about the problematic Razrs. When his Razr froze for the final time he got a Rant. He is now our GPS and is even doing his SAT Question of the Day. The powers of a new cell.

They have been through the realities of a cell phone with the exception of paying the monthly bills. In all fairness to them both, they've only lost 1 phone and never had water problems, etc.

Q9C is Waaayyy better than the original Q. I had the Q for well over a year. I liked it for awhile and tried to overlook all the flaws. I think I went through 3 of them in the first month or two to get a good one finally. I grew to hate it. The good one had several flaws that seemed to get worse with time. Finally it refused to log onto powervision at all. My local Sprint store replaced it for me. I was very lucky and ended up with a Q9c as the replacement. IT was like night and day difference. The flaws with the old Q were gone! The new battery life is GREAT! I have mine set to go get my email every 30 minutes from yahoo (free) and just plug it every every night. If I were not doing the email pulls it would probably last a few days even with some internet usage. It is MUCH faster than the Q. Everything about it is better. It is a big phone and at first I wasn't too thrilled about that, but for all it does, it is worth the size difference. The only problem I ever have with the 9c is dropped calls sometimes. I just got a PRL update and so far no more dropped calls. Hope that really has fixed it. (I had already done this through tech support but the phone wouldn't accept the PRL updates that way for some reason...had to go into the store and have it done.)

Do NOT BUY an original Q...the Q9c IS MUCH BETTER!

Whittier, I know, I know, but my Katana was dead and the Q was FREE (given to me by a friend) and if/when it dies prematurely, I still have my phone upgrade discount that I could go to. In the meanwhile, it's been all positive and I'm even having fun figuring out xml. Thanks for sharing your experience you really had a rough time with your Q.
