Does anyone know when WiMax is supposed to be fully implemented?

Q4 of 2007 was for test markets, but no real completion date.

It's a bit outdated, but here: http://www.crunchgear.com/2007/08/27/nyc-getting-sprints-wimax-service/

I still need to get Fiber Optic connections.

What's going to compete with WiMax? WiFi?

I've started to take EVDO for granted. Rev. A service here in Lincoln just made it that much sweeter. I give our Verizon rep hell every time he comes in. Sprint and Alltel have EVDO in Lincoln, AT&T has HSDPA in Lincoln, and Verizon has...1X! LMAO!

Most carriers have adopted a different platform for their next generation data network, based on the GSM standard. Verizon recently accounced they were choosing the GSM based platform for data.

What that means, is that Sprint and Clearwire would be the only domestic companies offering national WiMax service. If Sprint or Clearwire do not find your area worthy of coverage, you just wont get coverage.

If I'm correct Sprint has put the whole Wimax plan on hold until further notice. They're doing this because of the whole corp. management change up of CEO and other execs. I thought I read in an article that Dan Hesse was putting it on hold because of the costs and unsure ability to properly launch it and that they would rather work on fixing the company before spending more money on Wimax.

really I heard the Hesse said that wimax is on schedual.
xohm.com should have some info because XOHM is the actual name name of the wimax service. But as far as everything with wimax is going, it will probibly be launched in major cities arround the US sometime this year.

Will Wimax replace our current EVDO (for handsets) ? If yes, what will happen to all of our PV plans (esp one's that are "included" at no cost) ?

Wimax will eventually replace the older technologies like EVDO. But with that comes new handsets, etc... Of course if I were you i wouldnt look at anything less than a year before device swaps are being offered for wimax devices, mainly because they still have yet to develop alot of handheld devices.

It's going to be even longer before anything other than Baltimore is launched. Clear Wire is putting a hold on everything.
