Hi, I'm Daniel from Opera Software.

Looking around in the forums here I notice that many of you are using the Opera Mini Web browser.

I'd like to get some feedback from you on how we could improve and enhance the browsing experience on Opera Mini. In addition, I'd like to know which new features and capabilities would be useful.

I'm collecting all the feedback over at Opera Watch (http://operawatch.com/news/2008/01/what-would-you-like-to-see-in-the-next-version-of-opera-mini.html). Please send me your feedback. Thanks.

Oops... posted to the wrong thread. I meant to post this to the Vision thread.

Nah, you posted it in the Vision forum but it doesn't go there ;) We keep all Opera Mini stuff in this thread because it's an add-on application, so I wanted to keep it in the same subforum that all other Opera Mini threads are in.

And I'll follow this with what I'd like to see... I love the latest version on my M610. Just love it. However, on my Palm Centro, there's a bit left to be desired (specifically when handling java-file downloads, like JAD/JAR midlets). For regular browsing it seems to handle fine, but that added support would be fantastical. I know jack sh-- about what it takes to implement that kind of functionality, though. Most of the time, when trying to download a java midlet from Opera Mini on my Centro, it takes over 5 tries. At the point where it tells me that it will need to exit the browser to continue (it will then pass the download through to Blazer, if it gets that far), and I say yes, it freezes the phone.

I'd like for the connection not to time out all the time, plus maybe predictive entry when typing popular addresses (like TeaShark).

I noticed today that your newest default version when visiting opera.mini.com is 3.XX?
Isn't this a downgrade? I remember seeing the 4.XX up as the default one you download...

I miss having different color backgrounds. It may seem minor. But smoother scrolling an altho it would probably make the app biger in size but flash video would be nice. It would be a first for cellphones lol. Im sure im wishful thinking. right ??

to be able to download without exiting the program

video and music playback

skins would be cool too

a landscape view, though I have no clue how key control would be implemented holding it sideways :)

Oooh, you know what else I thought of, and I'm starting to think now that this would require Opera to develop a version of Opera Mini specifically for the Palm Treo's--With the Centro, at least, there isn't a way to enter specific symbols like underscores (_). Right now, with other applications and general entries, you have to hit the Alt key for special characters and in the current version of Opera Mini, hitting the Alt key just enters a question mark. I didn't really play around to see if there were any other key combinations I could do to get to an underscore, but the usual keys didn't work.

So, again, I don't know if this is feasible or would prove to be valuable enough to Opera to develop a Palm-centric version, but I'm just throwing it out there! We love you guys :)

i would like to see better support for forms entry, i have issues on most my devices when it comes to form submittal it seems that sometimes the information just doesnt get sent so i end up having to try to log in twice

also the color themes, i liked that feature of opera mini 3, yet 4 doesnt have it

uhh well thats about it im quite satasfied with Opera Mini.

1. Better support for PDA phones. I know that's what Opera Mobile is for, but a lot of us like the Mini better.

2. Ability to chose our own start page.

3. Option to disable blank full screen when entering text into fields.

4. Folders in bookmarks.

5. Option to add address bar on top.

6. Option to turn off virtual mouse.

7. Tabs.

8. More options in general.

Am I asking for too much?

Copy and paste would be nice for links and stuff. :) Nasa look in your Java apps in the programs menu. IE is a different browser.

Thanks Daniel for coming on here and starting this thread, I'm a long time Opera user and fan (been using Opera Desktop since 1998) and read your blog daily.

Anyways, I would love to see theme support like we had for Opera Mini 3.

Streaming video would be nice, but keep in mind it's also a Java application and not all phones can do streaming. *I think they are somewhat limited to the amount of memory the phone offers.

He's on vacation in Florida for the week :) But pretty much the comments here are the same feature requests that are in the comments on his blog and also on Opera's own forums. **

(Picky Picky)

I never used opera b4 this version. so i'm loving it all around.

1. better forms support (as noted, doesn't always log-in)

2. Better keyboard support (I have a rumor, and theres a few chars that come up incorrect)

3. Tabs

4. Video/Audio support

5. Download without having to close. I understand having to go to my browser, but does it have to close?

6. Bookmark folders. (Yes, i bookmark everything)

7. Flash support ()

A browser specific for BlackBerry?

I don't know if that would still be a Mini version or a completely new version. But still, it would be great.
