is there any way to be able to send ringtones and pics over bluetooth?
Do some searching dude and check out your manual. It depends on the phone. You have to have a bluetooth dongle and get your phone paired with your computer. Once your computer recognizes your phone you should be able to dump them over. You'll have to enter a few passcodes, probably 0000 and they will dump into a specific folder on your phone. Then you can move them from there.

The only way to send ringers on a sanyo is if they are video ringers and they go in the dcim folder. What phone do you have?

Yep, all this is true. The capability of ringer transfer is dependent upon the model phone you have. You can transfer ringers, pics, whatever you want if you have a MotoRazr v3... if you have a Sanyo, you have to upload them via internet and receive them via txt msgs.
There's always a way, and there is always a (more or less) free way.
Take for instance, my Katana DLX:
pics, music, screensavers... all xfrable via bluetooth
ringers? Oh, no. I've stated this in a previous post about the DLX... but why can't users, once they buy their phone, have total control over it? If I had to change one thing about the DLX, it would be that anyone could transfer ringers or ANY file for that matter to the phone and use it properly.
...and, just for the record... you actually CAN transfer ringers to the DLX, you just can't put them into the correct folder to USE them as ringers... talk about, hey?
Anyway, your manual should have the info you need... or you can tell us what make/model you have, and we can answer it for you.

*sigh* Our friend is correct. Without internet, the Katana is quite limited.
When I was looking at new phones back in Sept, I already knew to pass up the Katana (and should have known to pass up the Katana II) due to my friend and his experiences with it. He wound up taking his Katana back and getting the Razr (V3). He's now an iWhore, but he's happy, so I can't complain. :D
If she wants custom ringers, internet is the only option for the Katana (any of them... including my DLX). On the bright side, Power Vision and Unlimited Texting isn't all that expensive from Sprint... so it can always be added later (with a contract extension, I believe).
If nothing else, the Katana is great for headhunting (the person that sold it to you). :hee:

I make my own. I use WavePad (someone else from here posted about it, and I tried it. Works well). I can change my mp3s to wav format, edit them, and then save the 30sec file back into mp3 again. Then I use the Focus Uploader (or Rumkin when Focus isn't working) to upload them to my phone.
Weeeee... fun!
There's a tutorial on how to do it in the multi-media section of this forum, I believe. Hope this helps!

Does it convert to QCP or can the katana play mp3 as ringtones?

No you can only use qcp for music ringers. Yes they are of low quality and volume. You can try wavepad to boost and equalize your ringer before converting to qcp. It helps a lil lil bit.

I've had qcp ringtones that I made through wavepad, and they were just fine for volume and quality. A lot of people have commented on how loud some of them were. I went with mp3 for the reduced size.
I'm rather surprised the Katana can't take mp3 ringtones, especially when the DLX can... but then again, it isn't called "deluxe" for nothing, I suppose.

The Katana doesn't support AAC ringtones? They sound so much better...
Has anyone tried Bitpim and Sanyo's? I got the contacts off a 3100 before I sold it, so I'm just curious if that'll work with ringers too.

can't say I have, but then again... I'm happy with what I have for creation/ upload of ringtones. I'll check it out, though, just to see what it is/ has to offer. Off I go!

It seems bitpim does not yet support the DLX, so I will not be able to do much in the way of checking it out, it looks interesting, though. Also does not say whether it supports bluetooth, which is how I transfer all of my files. This'll be cool for people that use data cables, though.. and yes, it does support the 6600 (katana), so maybe it will solve Skullmonkey's problem. What's more is it is free, so it can't hurt to try. :)

Right now i can only send contacts and a business card (useless. you cant edit it on the phone) over bluetooth. I was thinking there might be a hack or something that would let me send ringtones and games and stuff.
Additionally, i cant even change my bluetooth passcode from 0000. The makers are kinda dumb for adding features that are useless because they done let us edit anything.
The wavepad ringtone maker is better BY FAR! I can actually hear the ringtone in a crowd now (amped by 350%). Ill be using that method for all of mine now.
As far as i know, i can only use the QCP format.
What is this BitPim i am seeing?

Again: the standard Katana does not have the technology for doing much of anything via bluetooth other than a headset.
Bluetooth passcodes are set by the mfr, and cannot (as far as I know) be changed. They are encoded into the devices.
For the ringers, are you saving them as .m4u format? I think that was what I used, and I got great ringers without having to amp them up. All I ever did was normalize, high-pass filter, and save as m4u. I love wavepad... unfortunately, I bought it and then found out that my soundforge software could do the same thing. :P Ah, well... it was time to update my software anyway, and wavepad is easier.
bitpim is a software program that allows you to edit/ transfer data (it's opensource, so it's free) from your computer to your phone (and back, I think) using the data cable. So... instead of having to buy the software, at least you could use bitpim and have an easy to use FREE software, since you can't do it without the software. Nice way to LEGALLY get around the system there. :)
