Hi, I have a Katana DLX and want to listen to music on it. The headphone jack is small so standard headphones don't plug into it.
I've tried two different adapters (3mm to 2mm, and the equivalent non-metric kind), from Radio Shack and Fry's, and in both cases, I hear sound from only one ear. If I pull the headphone jack halfway out of the adapter, I can hear both channels, but it's loose and won't stay like that.
My wife went to the Sprint store to buy an adapter from them, and they told her we needed to be a $40 headset, including microphone. This sounds like bull to me. I just want to listen to music, don't need a mike, and have plenty of headphones around the house. Shouldn't I be able to buy a $5 adapter to get this to work?
Thanks...

it sounds like the problem is the 4 conductor jack on the phone and the 3 conductor plug you're trying to use. the sprint store may be right in that that is the only thing they have that will work with your phone.
i like my katana but the more i poke around i want to call it a "can't tana".

While it is unfortunate the DLX has no headphone jack for music, a bluetooth headset works just fine for such usage. I have a bluetooth headset from Sony that works perfectly for music. Since I also have a bluetooth dongle for my computer as well, I can listen to music, watch movies, or anything else I want with this same headset. Pretty nice set up, actually. I think the reason the DLX does not have a jack for a headset is the growing trend toward bluetooth technology- though it is hardly in a stage that would justify the total lack of a jack. Just my thoughts on it, however. The DLX requires the use of a bluetooth headphones, or a bluetooth headset that is set up for music enjoyment as well (hard to find).
[edit] and to answer the original question... no, there's no adapter. This also made me sad, as I was really hoping the headphones I use for my laptop would also work on my DLX. *sigh* Bluetooth is so expensive... thank goodness it is cool enough for me to warrant the purchase. :D

^^^ "...and a high-capacity microSD Card slot and 2.5mm headphone jack..."
The DLX does have a hadphone jack...it's 2.5mm
to the OP, you can get an dapter at Radioshack for $10. It's in the phones accessories section.
well dang, it's not on their site anymore, but I'm pretty sure it's in the stores still.
it's a 2.5 to 3.5 adaptor

I'm thinking the reason for the lack of HC compatibility is probably due to its development before the HC stuff was available *shrug* just a guess, though. Er... and yes, you're right... it does have a headSET jack... my bad for wording it the way I did. And yes, the adapter is for changing it from a headset jack to a headphone jack. Either way, the phone is rather lacking in that respect. A headphone jack would have been fantabulous... but alas, tis not to be (without adapter).
As for a cheaper price on the adapter, you might want to check out newegg or Ebay. Just some ideas to help get a solution to the initial problem.

All right I guess when I went to Radio Shack before I asked for a 2mm to 3mm jack and you're saying 2.5mm to 3.5 mm. Weird since the one I got seemed to fit. But I'll head back to Radio Shack and try to get the larger one and see how that works.

All right I went to Radio Shack and I didn't see any metric system units for the adapters. I saw 1/8 to 3/32, will that work?
I'm still kind of surprised that a 3mm to 2mm seemed to fit physically, although it didn't work in two channels, and you're saying that I need 3.5mm to 2.5 mm. But if you say so, I'll keep looking.

Radio Shack has two different 3.5 to 2.5 adapters. One is Mono and one is Stereo.

^^^ yea, gotta get the stereo one.
If you buy off ebay, which I don't recommend for this thing, make sure it says stereo.
@wallpad, are you seeing that in the phone accessories section? don't look at where all the other adaptors are, my radioshack has the right adapter next to car chargers and cases

OK thanks, I was looking in the phone accessories. I'll go back and look at the car charger section. It was depressing because the kid that worked there had zero clue what I was talking about.

the official name is 3/32 to 1/8 adapter. my upc code was 40293 64472, and theres a code on the front of the box, 274-004. i think the 274-004 is the part number, have them look it up

If you view that thread I referenced, it does have the system part number. I do believe you are correct, sde780.

OK this is good to know. I think they had 3/32 to 1/8 there, but I was looking for 2.5mm-3.5mm so didn't take it.

I finally found it. Thank you so much for putting the part number and UPC code in your post. That was extremely helpful.
