My gf wants to switch phone carriers since she's tired of cingular, she wants a NEW number. So it's either Verizon or Sprint.

I told her to come to sprint, with the idea that I could just add a second line and let her have that. Also I've been trying to get a better plan and a centro, but have been going the threat of cancellation route. Do you think it'd be easier to get what I want by adding a second line and bringing in a customer, and getting good stuff for both of us? (SERO or similar pricing and new phones for both of us not just her)

I would not threaten to cancel. Instead, I would call retentions explain the situation. Something like "I have somebody wanting to change their plan, but I would like to know what the advantages would be to add a line here, vs adding a line to another carrier like verizon"

I agree, the retention reps always seem to be more giving when they know you're going to be adding services then when you're telling them you're thinking of canceling. Seems kind of odd, but every time I've talked to them it has seemed that way.

In that case I think that I'll call retentions, mention that both my gf and I are looking for a new carrier to get lines together, or that I may stay with sprint and bring her if they can offer something good.

Hi, I want to cancel

Why do you want to cancel

I want to cancel because I want to add another line of service to my account

So you are calling to cancel service because you want to add another line of service?

Yes, I want to cancel because i want to add a line of service.......

Please update us on your result :) I currently have a SERO but I'm looking to add another 2 line family plan. So would like to have a decent minute plan (not looking for perks like free text or vision)

Maybe that was an attempt at humorous condescension?

I would have your girlfriend sign up for her own SERO account. Then I would call and get my contract canceled with no ETF because of the change in terms see the big thread. Then add a second SERO account to your girlfriends account.

Can't you just add SERO, then call?

I wouldn't do that unless 'girlfriend' is going to be 'wife' for sure and pretty soon. Maybe I am overly cautious but I would not want 'girlfriend' to have account control over 'my cellphone'.

If he wants to keep his number, than cancelling without the ETF would not be an option. Unless he ports it out and ports it back in with his girlfriends account.

We've been together for a few years, and live together.

I want to try to keep my number while getting us benefits.
