View Full Version : No Ev-DO?
I recently bought a Moto Q9c and I'm loving every bit of it... except for one.
I recently did a phone # swap and after I did that my PCS wasn't working so I had to call tech support and they led me into the PCS programming screen and told me to reset it and after that it worked. Now I'm not sure if this also happened before because I was on vacation in Baltimore but when my phone has the [Ev] icon at the top I usually have 3-4 bars of signal and if I try to open a data connection (PIE, Mail) it will fail to connect then switch to 1x and connect just fine.
Any thoughts?

Don't know if this would have anything to do with it, but you said you did a phone number swap - did the number you swapped from have a vision or power vision plan? Maybe that account only has access to a slower speed. Or something.

sounds like your akey is not programmed correctly you would need to get the device re-provisioned to get it working correctly
go to ##3282# (##DATA#) and select restore that will re-provision your data and should then re-program your akey and get your evdo access restored
Thanks for the advice guys I found it's because the retentions rep who gave me my sweet deal of a plan didn't tell me it was an archived family plan that only supports 1xRTT so if I want to get Ev-DO speeds I have to drop my plan.
Anyone think it's worth it to lose unlimited data + 1,000 minutes for $40 to goto a newer plan that supports Ev-DO? I figure if I explain my situation they might give me a discount on a newer plan.

Try and get your plan changed but ask them if they can match the price. I think that there is a big thread on this if you search for grandfathered vision plans. You may be able to find out what they were offering other customers with the same problem. But I def. think that you should upgrade to the Power Vision plan. If you live in a good EVDO coverage area, it makes a world of difference.
I live in the heart of Raleigh and I get 3-4 bars of EvDO. I'll take that into consideration thanks for the help.

I live in Cary, and I love the EVDO. It works perfectly almost anywhere in the triangle.
That's fantastic news because I go around the triangle quite a bit, thanks for the info. Going to hit up eCare and see if they can't help me out some.

You should still get evdo on your current plan. I would do what Brett said.
No, my plan doesn't support "Power Vision" only "Vision".
The reason for this is the plan I have is an old family retention plan and it has Vision on it and because Vision is on the PLAN and not my line features Power Vision cannot be added. :(

Doesn't matter. If you are in evdo coverage then your evdo phone will use that connection. I have a vision plan and use my 6800 and 9000 with evdo.

there is plenty of people with grandfathered vision plans that get full PV access, trust me try it you dont need to change your plan
I've done it 4 times. Just saying what tier 2 told me. :\

tier 2 as with any other department is trained to try to sell you on newer plans to make sprint more money...
you could also try doing a ##786# reset that will erase the entire radio memory and device memory but you will have to re-program the entire device, and if the Q9c is like the Q it may also tag your phone refurbished also
So what you're saying is, no matter what plan and/or features I do/do not have I should be able to access Ev-DO because from what I've been told you need to have access to Power Vision to access Ev-DO.

Yes since you live in a PV area.

yes....
Ok called Tier 2 again they said there's an identifier on the older plans that indentifies if someone has PV or not and he flipped it and now I'm getting 700+ kbps on Ev-DO thanks for the help everyone. :)
Get to keep my plan. :D
