Hi guys. I'm kinda new here so any help would be appreciated.

Specifically, I'm here because I'm trying to use my new Katana as a bluetooth modem with Vision service without paying the PAM fees. I'm not trying to abuse the service, I just think it'd be cool cause I got a deal on my Vision service package....

Is there any way to do this or am I about to be flamed for not searching thorough enough.... I read the Katana FAQ and that's basically what it says, that it can't be done.

I tried looking around the ##DATA# menu for a way to turn off the NAI, but it doesn't seem to be in there. Some have said that non-EVDO phones don't even need this to be deactivated. I am on a MacBook Pro that's running OSX leopard as well as Win XP through VMWare Fusion, and they both can pair with the phone as a modem, but give me different errors when they actually try to dial and connect. When I try to do it through windows it seems to get a little closer than through OSX. In XP, I set up a DUN connection using the phone as the modem and the number as #777 with my username@sprintpcs.com as the username and entered my password. When I click dial the computer's screen says "opening port" and then "dialing #777," then the little bluetooth icon on phone's screen lights up green and the phone says "Data Connection:" with Tx and Rx bars underneath and under that it says "Connected as data modem to macbook." Then it all goes away on the phone and back on the computer it says the host server did not respond....

Also going through the OSX dial-up I get the bluetooth icon to light up green and the data connection screen to come up briefly on the phone, but then it just scolls "connecting" for a minute on the computer and I get an error message that says "modem error, check device" or something similar.....

Am I missing something?? Why isn't this working? Or has anyone else got this to work? Is there anything else I can try to work around this? :1zhelp:

no dice, you cannot tether on the katana without paying the PAM fee, sprint can see you tethering, and really you shouldnt need to enter a username or password to tether i never do when i do on my devices

there is no way to disable nai on the katana (or any newer sanyo phone by that matter)

thanks for the response. i realized this after searching for a bit..... darned hackers and crackers out there need to get on top of their sh*t.

for the record, which phones can do this?

I also heard that boost mobile phones will let you tether via USB and get 1xRTT internet access for about $0.35 a day, which is about $11/mo. So maybe I'll look into that.
