Help!

I cant get userID / password authentication to my sprintpcs.email using Thunderbird. I have set the servers as follows:

pop.sprintpcs.com (incoming)
smtp.sprintpcs.com (outgoing).

For for the outgoing server I have Authentication checked and the Secure Server radio button off.

I have doublechecked the userID and it is correct.

FYI .. I also cannot get in via the direct email link pop.sprintpcs.com ('Invalid username or password')

However i CAN get to my sprintpcs email thru the sprint.com site using the same username & password.

I dont have a Sprint voice phone yet, I only have a mobile broadband card (Sierra 595U).

Thanks in advance and i appologize i this has been covered before. I searched the board first and found a few similar threads, but none where the person asking was using Tbird instead of outlook. MY PC does not have outlook, or I would try it.

Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas

Matt

Here is a snip of my detail header:

Received: from lswmapl01 ([68.28.27.84]) by lswsmta02.nmcc.sprintspectrum.com

You might try to use this server name. It's also a DNS alias for 129.33.47.179

the POP and SMTP server names are right.

You need to check the outgoing server requires authentication option, but neither needs the SSL option checked, leave those unchecked.

Your username is your Power Vision username i.e. <username>@sprintpcs.com

Your password is your Power Vision password, that you setup by going to your account info on Sprint.com and changing it in the Settings & Preference link.

I'm able to access SprintPCS mail on my Q9C just fine using those settings.

Heh laidback,

I use Thunderbird for my sprint mail but my ISP blocks any outgoing mail using port 25 which typically spammers use so I have to use my ISP's server for outgoing. Incoming is set to pop.sprintpcs.com port 110 but outgoing is my ISP's server address and my ISP password -can't use the smtp.sprintpcs.com as outgoing. Many ISP's are blocking outgoing email through port 25 when using a server other than their own. So I do have it set to port 25 but using their outgoing server.

thanks a bunch looselips.. sorry this is a bit long, but i think something just clicked with me here. i am somewhat of a novice with this terminology.

First off .. from the message I get that sounds like the exact issue. I am trying to send outbound thru port 25. If i switch the outbound server name back to my old ISP it will probably work. I'll try that.

But it has just occured to me that I may be assuming incorrectly that Sprint ISP service comes with my wireless broadband account. Is that sold separately, or do they even offer ISP service?

Long story short here is that i've been using AT&T as my ISP. I've had everything bundled with them -- ISP; cell phones & land lines, blahblah. But they dont offer ANY broadband in my area, and after endless suffering with dial-up i got fed-up with them and started researching other options. thats how i discovered sprint wireless broadband and that their coverage ares includes me. so i bought a wireless card & account a couple weeks ago.

My thought was to dump at&t completely and move my stuff over to sprint.

I think i am beginning to understand that 1) ISP service is not offered or is a separate product that i have not purchased yet and 2) My sprintpcs email is just a convenience they provide to their wireless customers etc etc..

Can you guys confirm that? I know i could just call sprint, but i'm finding their phone reps dont seem to know any more than I do.

I really appreciate your help. Thanks again and Happy New Year.

If you're using Sprint's broadband card, you're using Sprint (and not AT&T or anyone else) as your ISP. What everyone is saying about using port 25 is correct, except that it doesn't really apply in your instance. I guess you should make sure that you're actually accessing the internet via your Sprint card and not via your other provider.

Definitely not my other provider .. this is a brand new notebook which has never accessed them.

so then i have to think something isnt right on sprint's end. i do notice i get an invalid user/pw error trying to get to the inbox directly via pop.sprintpcs.com.

time to call them back i guess.. :frustrate

i am having the same problem!

(can log in with sprint.com) ..but always get invalid username.pw with pop.sprint.com
