if it happens again i will, im starting to think i may just be tripping but 90% of the time im on FF with adblock, it just happens @ work on my primary computer im on IE6 with no popup protection the only sites i had open was my timesheet, my schedual, bankofamerica.com (which i know it didnt come from as it was just the homepage), and sprintusers which i was navigating, and i kept getting this same popup asking me to take a survey (it wasnt one of thoes professional survey popups, just one of an image you click that re-directs you to a spam site to signup)

Using Firefox at home I get no ads or pop-ups ever. :headbang2

Using IE at work (during break) I get the full page pop ups that take awhile to load and then at the bottom you get a countdown (15, 14, 13, etc) that tells you how much longer the ad will display. You can then click it to get rid of it.

The pop ups don't happen right away, but usually by the time I click on the 3rd thread, I will see them.

Still getting that freaking HP full page ad. There's a RadioShack one too. Getting really fed up. I need to use IE7 for work. Apparently Lee and the powers that be just don't care. Too bad. I don't mind the other ads(never get any popups) and I know that ads help support the site, but if I have to stop viewing the site while I work and exclusively with Firefox otherwise (which blocks EVERY single ad) so be it. I refuse to have full page ads forced down my throat any longer.

Of course they are fully aware of the ads. Maybe not the mods, but certain other people with more power. Im not really complaining cause he deserves to make his money but that still doesn't make the whole full page ad less annoying.

Matt
01-04-2008, 07:04 PM
I am only aware of them because I am tired of seeing them. I understand ad revenue, but sheesh.

Spruce da Bruce
01-04-2008, 07:06 PM
Yes he deserves to make his money, but pissing off his users with obnoxious full page ads is only going to hurt his bottom line in the long run-especially if it forces everyone to either go to other sites or use FireFox, because then NONE of the ads he runs will be seen. I am just disappointed in his lack of communication about the issue.

My work laptop is set somehow so I see NO  ads on SU when I use it to read the forum at home or lunch times. It has IE6 but it is so slow - it would be impossible to read the forum if I had to wait for ads to load.

IE7 on my personal computer, I get the annoying  HP ad with the counter, even though I have popups blocked. I can read SU really fast using open in new tab except when that ad pops up. I have not figured how to reset my IE7 settings to block the popups on SU.

Well Lee has been ignoring this thread so I guess we are stuck with them. I'm going to have to go to Firefox which blocks ALL the ads on this site. I hate to do that because the banner ads and such don't bother me and I know they help support the site, but I refuse to put up with the full page garbage any longer. I'm disappointed that Lee refuses to address the issue, but apparently he wants them to stay, and he's the boss.

im starting to agree with others which is lee just doesnt care, this sucks because this is what i do in between calls when im bored at work, i guess i have to find another outlet, fark and ppcgeeks and hofo and xda-devs will have to work, it just seems this site is much more lifely then ppcgeeks/hofo/xda-devs but im slowly being left with no choice.... and firefox isnt an option these machines have 512mb of ram, which firefox is a bit of a ram hog if you have about 3-4 open windows in it, it sure uses alot more then ie6 does with this same in this situation, at home its not a problem but here @ work it just cannot be done.

If you have to remove them one at a time, then I'm afraid it's a losing battle. I just got another full page one at work...something called Workapolis or something like that. You remove one ad and another takes it's place.

I just got the talking ipod one just now in my control panel. I didn't see what banner it was coming from though so I couldn't do a screen shot. I also had the floating VZW popup go through my screen again.

These things aren't really bothering me, I'm just keeping you guys updated since this looks as if you're working on these particular ones.

I also just got the talking one; not sure what it was as I quickly closed the browser (I'm at the office), but it was loud and very annoying. To be honest, I'd rather deal with the silent Verizon ad than this obnoxious talking one. I absolutely hate websites with any type of audio/sound effects turned on by default.

Well, looks like the Verizon pop-up is still here; I just got it again a few minutes ago.

Verizon add is still here. Almost every time I go to the top of the page, there is is, waiting for me

And the iPod one is at the bottom for me too. That is almost as bad as the smiley going "OMG!! NO WAY!!!!!!!!!"

Working on this now...sorry guys...I can't stand those talking ads either.

EDIT: UGh, sorry guys. I had been searching for ipod but these ads were labeled NANO. I have found them and killed them. They should be gone in a few hours. :bang:

That Verizon add is at the top of EVER page when I go to the top. And usually when I click the "X" it makes that add white and it doesn't go away and I have to refresh the page like 3 times to get the page to show up without the ad.

How often are you seeing it?

For me, the VZW popup's seem to vary on when I'll get them. It's completely random. I didn't get any in 2 days and yeterday I got 5 of the Verizon ones. I haven't heard the talking iPod ad since they last time I mentioned that one.

I have a theory on the VZW popup. I have a feeling that there's a cookie that might be causing the floater to keep reappearing. I might try clearing my cookie cache and see if that does the trick on my end.

I only saw it once yesterday. HOWEVER, that can be deceiving, because the only time I will see it is during the day, when I visit the site from work, because at work, I don't have an ad-blocker running(I do have one running, at home). Since I'm at work, I also don't visit the site all that much(about once or twice a day, at most). So keep that in mind, when considering how often I am seeing it.

The network told me the delivery per user should be capped at 1 per day. I am hoping this means they have their part working.

Here is a new one. Pops up, covers part of the screen, and if you accidently moust over it, it expands, covering more of the screen and plays some annoying voice stuff.

For Nevada tourism.

When you highlight the Page back button, it shows the last page as either ww w.toontowncentral.com/forums/........ or ww w.h4ck3rz.com/.......And if you click on the page back button, it doesn't go back......you have to click on it twice really fast in order for it to work. I thought it was just my computer, so I formatted my hard drive and did a fresh install of windows, but it was still happening. Then I noticed it was only doing it with Sprintusers.com, so I looked in here, and sure enough, everyone else is having the same problem.

EDIT: The screenshot that Johnny Hotsauce posted at the top of the page shows the full links to the sites that are showing up in the history.

Lee, check out my screenshot a couple post up, it shows what bcaroo is describing.

I'm having the same problem as well, if I hit the back button on my browser while on SU, it won't go backward and just keeps me on the current page. If I drop the browser history tab down, it will show the toontowncentral and hackers.net as the last 2 sites visited.

Here is the whois for the hackers.net net that stays in my browser history in case you need it.

Oh my........that was a lot of work. You have guts - I won't touch my Windows setup unless I am positive I really really have to do it - then I cringe all the way while I do it.

My "Back" button always used to work until yesterday night - now I seem to always get that toontown and the h4ckrz in between the actual last SU page. This is the only site this is happening on.

I am using IE7
