No matter what app i'm running, the Q automatically returns to the homescreen after about 10 seconds. I assume this is a setting that I'm overlooking, but I had the original Q for a year and never had this problem. I can't for the life of me figure this out! Any help is much appreciated.

theres no automatic keylock AFIK, only a manual

but even without the keylock on i havent had any accidental dials because the send/end buttons are recessed compared to the keyboard

yes it can charge, but it mostly only works with onboard usb, not front usb or usb hub ports

My 700WX bit the dust today. In a panic I ran to the sprint store and was looking at the Centro, Moto Q9c, and one of the Blackberrys.

BB was out of the running in a flash. If the Centro came w/ WM6, I probably would have gotten it. But it didn't & I didn't.

So I get home w/ the Moto Q9c and for the most part I like it. It's going to take some time to get used to not having a touchscreen, but it may be a hurdle I can clear.

However, I TERRIBLY miss the Threaded SMS and the Picture Mail/Text. Does anyone know if and how I can get one or both of these apps to work on the Q9c? If so, please advise.

I can't believe Sprint would leave PicMail off of any phone that has a built-in camera. It's just plain ignorant. Anyone else have any ideas regarding picture text?

Assuming your browser is IE you can change the homepage in the registry. I don't remember the path but there is a thread about it at everythingq.com in the q9c forum.

outlook email is exclusively for use as an e-mail account you synchronize as an exchange service OR that you synchronize with a local pc

so the answer is yes and no

yes, if you set up an exchange server and have your outlook forwarded to it or aggregated through it

no, you cant set it up as your gmail account exclusively

BTW, it does not matter if I have the smart backlight enabled or disabled, the screen never goes completely black.

I have this issue with my Q too. I just lock it to keep the light off, and the light on mine doesn't come back on if I hold down the backlight button.

It should go away after a hard reset, I think it has something to do with TCPMP.

yea tcpmp has allways had minor issues with the Q so i would assume they apply to the Q9c also, just power off and back on (softreset) and it goes away

I was able to log in to my online banking with no problems with my Q. Now, with the Q9c, every time I try to log in, it just keeps taking me back to the original login screen. I get no messages regarding certificates or anything like that. I imagine this has to do with WM6. Is there a setting anyone can think of that might let me in to my bank site?

you would need to contact them and see if they support the newest version of pocket ie, otherwise you can try other browsers such as minimo or opera and see if they work

yes yes yes yes yes yes anything from the Q hardware will will work and software should work, id say 95-99% works but thoes 2 apps i know work ive seen people who say they use it

What kind of issue? Only thing I have noticed is that the type seems to be rendered a little smaller than most websites. Doesnt bother me though. I have been browsing and repling quite a bit in the last few days on the phone.
Only thing I am wondering if there is a way to access the real hmtl SU from the Q9 and not the wap site. I like the way Google and Phonescoop give you the option for either or.

Not really to sure about that. I havnt used opera mini since a had the a900. Ive gotten to used to real hmtl web browsers. Although Im not sure how the new versions are now days. Might be worth a download to check out.

It's set in the registry. The key is \HKLM\Software\Microsoft|Internet Explorer\AboutURLs\home. Go into that key and put the URL for your desired hompage (including the http://).

These things can be managed pretty easily with some home screen edits, on my Q I had the counts for six different e-mail accts (outlook, sprint, gmail0, gmail1, hotmail, comcast) and SMS all displayed on one line.

Theres a bunch of stuff on homescreen customizing in Qusers, I think. It's not really hard, you can mostly just take the existing modules in the homescreen files and tweak them. It's not like really learning XML, or something.

If you don't need the Outlook entry, you can probably just go into the .xml file for that home screen and delete that module. Just make sure you save a backup copy so you can restore it if it doesn't come out right.

Since I've moved over to the Q9c from the Q, I've noticed that some of my .wma audio files don't work. I don't remember having this problem before. Is there a TCPMP .wma plugin I'm missing? If so, anyone know where I can get it? Though I like WMP on the Q9 better than the Q, I still like TCPMP better and would prefer to use it if I could.

One thing I noticed on the Q9c compared to the Q is that in Internet Explorer, a lot of keys are mapped to function, e.g., pressing 2 is Page Up, pressing 8 is Page Down, etc. I've figured out some of them, but some I can't figure what they do. Anyone have or know of any info on this?

Nope no indicater light that I know of. I am wondering if there is an app that will make your screen flash when you have a text, missed call or voicemail. I know there is an app for symbian phones that works real well. So gonna have to start diggin around.

I thought that I read one of the changes with the q9c was a missed call light. The centro didn't have one either but I was a app that could do it. It's stupid that some easy things are left out. A flashlight feature option would be nice to. I like that photo the caller id picts are a little bigger from the q and now when you call out there's a picture.

I silent mode, everything is silent unless you edit the profile. Reminders will vibrate in Meeting mode. I think PhoneAlarm is programmable for different reminders. Here's one I have tried before that has many features: DontForget (http://magazin.softimage.cz/dontforget/news/)

And will they continue to alert you at preset intervals? There's nothing like that on the Touch and PhoneAlarm isn't 100% compatible with the Touch. It's got a nasty bug that screws up the ringers and notifications if you use the long press of the End key to switch your phone from ringer to vibrate.

opera mini is so much faster.. the zoom feature is nice. the ONLY thing i hate is it NEVER logs me into myspace, my mail.com site, nor anything requiring a log in/password. which accounts for 80% of the sites i want to use it for.

you copy the files from wherever they are stored on your HDD into any directory on the device or onto its SD card, if they are songs purchased from itunes, if they are the version with DRM they cannot be played on the Q9c without removing the DRM from the tracks

ringers will work either in the my documents folder, windos folder, or root of your memory card (not reccomended to put them there as it can cause a delay in your ring)

and otherwise any other files put them where you want, i store mine on the memory card because the Q9c doesnt have alot of storage space

digital rights manageemnt aka copyright protection, any song purchased through itunes has it unless you paid more for the DRM free version, you will know if the file is DRM'd because it will have a filetype of m4p

if it has m4a, mp4, mp3, wav, etc the Q9c will play it fine

How do you type symbols? How do you (if you can) access symbols that aren't written on the keys. I'm coming from a regular phone where you select Menu and then:

-Alpha
-Symbols
-Number
-etc

I'm trying to find some special characters I need to type and I can't! Is there a menu option somewhere?

is there any way for me to delete ALL of my inbox mail (email not sms text) when I download it from the server? Right now I have to manually delete each email, and then go to the deleted folder adn there's an option under tools that says "empty deleted items". Is there a quicker way so that I can save my soft left button from getting worn out? Thanks in advance.

Oh thanks! I found it. I haven't messed with the Profiles option, cool beans. It even has the "ring THEN vibrate" which is great for class. I used to have a custom ringtone that would be silent for 5 seconds then come on.

As a newbie, I inadvertently "removed" all the apps on my q 9c while messing around in the active sync menu on my laptop!!! The apps that I remembered having loaded were Microsoft, Live Search, Sprint TV, and On Demand. I remember having Google Maps before, but don't know how I get it back on my q 9c..... Also, what other apps were loaded on it right out of the box, and how do I get them back?????

no negitives other then make sure your contacts are backed up, it resets your device back to as it was when you first got it

Go to Connective Tools (http://www.connectivetools.com/) and get the SwitchProfile or CTScheduler program. SwitchProfile works like a charm - I have mine set to go silent at a certain time each night and back to normal in the morning. CTScheduler can do this plus run programs at specific times - I do a soft reset automatically each morning at a certain time.

You are allowing 30-45 seconds after the reg change before resetting, right? I remember I did this reg hack 3 times before I read that somewhere - if you do a reset immediately after the hack, it does not "stick". WM needs time to refresh.

I like to send a text by pushing the first letter of a contact from the home screen then highlight that contact then hit the menu key then send a text. I did a reset and now it seems to be acting different. It's cutting off the contacts name/number and just going to the body part of the message. Any idea why? I know it's kinda dumb but just a little annoying to have to scroll up to make sure I'm sending a text to the right person.

yea, you still get a msg if it failed (i had to test for my own curiousity so i used my cell jammer and tried it)

Anyone know how to replace the "Email" on the Home screen with a personal email account? I thought I came across a thread yesterday that showed how to do it, but I can't find it anymore.

I went into the xml file I wanted to edit and opened it with Notepad. Then I changed "ActiveSync" to the name of the email account I wanted (let's use Comcast for example). Now let's say I have 5 unread emails on Comcast. It'll show "Email (5)", but it won't open up.

Am I doing it right?

I can fill in a few more:

Blacksoftkeys - is a cab that makes your upper and lower screen boarders (the right and left softkeys on the screen and the top) black - looks good if you are using a black theme.

Jeyo - is a cool little app that dups a few other things (like add/remove programs) but has one neat little feature that will allow you to pick the first 7 apps that show up when you hit the "Start" softkey.

Right Menu - gives you that PC-like feature that turns your right softkey into a menu pop-up that you can customize with fav programs - just like the "Programs" menu on your PC.

I use PHM (http://www.phm.lu/Products/Smartphone/RegEdit/) - it is free and it works. Though it is old, it works. I use it on my Q now and I used it on the Mogul when I had one. I bought Resco for my Treo and found after the initial tweaks I did, I never used it again.

A Q9c is probably coming my way next month. I am still "looking" at everything and thnking about waiting for the 800w, but the Q9c just seems to be the best choice for me.

if the keyboard backlight wont turn on, try going into a dark room, if it doesnt come up then you may have a defective unit

I take it this feature is called "Smart Backlight"? Because if I go to Settings > Power Management > Smart Backlight > Disable, then the keypad will light up whenever I touch the phone.

thats interesting it sounds like some software is taking over the button, the q-hack no sent sms msg cab would have no effect either way it just adds (or removes) 1 simple registry entry, i would say hard reset, if it still happens you have a defective unit, its not unheard of for buttons to stop working properly on the q9c unfortunatly, luckilly i havent had any isues (yet knock on wood)

Does anyone else have problems with Sprint-T.V. working well on this phone?

I have had mine for about a week now and the sprint t.v. sucks balls on the Q9c

It worked flawlessly on my two year old sanyo scp-8400, but can't even play 30 seconds of cnn mobile live without stopping and having to re-initialize.

I also can't even access some of the channels that i KNOW are free like the NFL network and sprint music. I just keep getting errors.

I have no other connection problems so i know it is just the Sprint t.v. program. Is there an update or something that i can use to fix this crap? I used sprint t.v. A LOT with my sanyo phone and now i can't even use it with my new phone. WHich is B.S. because this phone should blow the sanyo scp-840 out of the water.

Hahah, it was funny. The same thing happened to me today while I was talking on AIM. I can't get the "?" to appear. I had to go into the symbols category to get the "?" to show up.

After I did that a few times, the "?" seem to work again when I press it on the keypad. Hope it does the same thing to you.

I had nothing but problems with my SprintTV and my Q9C..... I spent well over 2 hours with tech support to try and get my SprintTV to work (all I got was the ERROR) screen.

FINALLY I got a tech that knew what she was doing...... and told me to turn off the phone..... and then sent me a text message with a link to a new spritnttv cab file

When I downloaded the new file my sprinttv has worked everytime and I get CNN, NFL, Fox News, Holiday Classics. as the "basic" teaser channels come with the vision plan (sero)

Does anyone else have problems with Sprint-T.V. working well on this phone?

I have had mine for about a week now and the sprint t.v. sucks balls on the Q9c

It worked flawlessly on my two year old sanyo scp-8400, but can't even play 30 seconds of cnn mobile live without stopping and having to re-initialize.

I also can't even access some of the channels that i KNOW are free like the NFL network and sprint music. I just keep getting errors.

I have no other connection problems so i know it is just the Sprint t.v. program. Is there an update or something that i can use to fix this crap? I used sprint t.v. A LOT with my sanyo phone and now i can't even use it with my new phone. WHich is B.S. because this phone should blow the sanyo scp-840 out of the water.

Yeah so i have a few different home screens on my Q9c and somehow while changing to one did something or something changed that my start screen is now blank. I uninstalled all my home screens and changed all my stuff back to sprint default screens to see if that would help but no go. Anyone know of a common mistake that is done that will have your start menu show up blank. No matter what color scheme badkground image i do the home screen works fine its just when i go to the start menu theres no icons its just blank. Any help here would be much appreciated.

yea, but it slows down IE way to much while it writes to the card i wouldnt recommend it just download sktools lite its free and will clean that cache right upw

you dont extract a cab, copy the cab to your device and open it on the device, a .cab in windows mobile is the equivalent of a compressed .exe installer in windows

if documents to go doesnt handle it adobe should http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2_mobile.html#pocketPC it says pocket pc but it may or may not work with windows mobile standard give it a try if it doesnt work then i dunno

I am thinking I will go ahead and setup gmail on the email program and see if I can properly download pdfs, and then open them up with docs to go.

Awesome! That was the trick - I was using the mobile version. Going to the html version did allow me to download, and the pdf immediately opened with Docs to Go!

I am able to save images in IE. Depends on if the pic is embeded into the page or not. If your on a picture site and able to click and expand the pic then IE gives the option to "save as". Much like right clicking on the pc.

Hmmm...I can't seem to find the option to "save as." The properties of the expanded pic een show that it's a jpg, so I would think that the option would show up.

I do see an option to "send link" via email or text, but that's it.

No. I only see Favorites and Menu - and when I select Menu, it's the usual options. I'll try a different site to see if it's just the site...thanks for your help!

But i was wondering alot of thes programs and applications have great features and functions, some much smaller than others, so is there such thing as having TOO many??

i have alot of apps, ill list them when im home and able to openly access my device

i know i have Route66, google maps, live search, sprint navigator, on demand, a couple games, sktools lite, phm reg edit, and total commander installed going off the top of my head

and my device is running just fine, same goes with my Touch, i have even more installed on it and it runs fine

its all based off how many apps you have running in the background

Yeah, you don't want to install too much stuff. It cuts into battery life and stability, at least it did for me.

installing too many apps shouldnt affect battery life unless they are apps that run in the background one time use apps such as in my case navigation and mapping apps(apps that are closed when one is done using them) dont affect battery life or stability, now apps that run all the time such as IM apps, optimization apps, connection apps, etc thoes can cut into stability and battery life, the only things that run in the background on my Q9c are a DYNDNS updater, and the SOTI Pocket Controller app, so i can connect to my phone @ any time and work on it, preform maitnence, or in the case of theft locate it :-) (i tested this once, had a friend take my phone with him while he ran errands it worked quite well, i was able to text him and tell him everywhere he was and went, it kinda freaked him out lol.) and in the end my battery life is the same as it was when i got the phone (although i charge every night, and never once have i seen it drop even 1 bar lol, this extended battery is crazy)

If anybody is not sure how to view streaming video, such as Youtube on your Q9c, here is a link, http://discussion.wmexperts.com/showthread.php?t=148801. The post does a pretty good job at walking you through the programs needed and the steps you need to take. I have been trying to figure it out for a while searching the internet. However, the sight, at the link listed, did the job. I am not very computer savy, so it took me a while but I finally got did it. I hope this helps anyone who is trying to view flash videos.

yep, theres no way that cab could cause that issue seeing as it only creates 1 reg entry and does nothing else you could even do the entry manually and not have the issue,

you said you were having issues with it while going in and out of and/or using the IM app, im thinking that caused the problem, because the IM app uses text messages in the background (when idle) just as sprint mobile e-mail does on the touch/mogul. and my guess is it may use a similar reg entry or bypass to get around you actually seeing the messages, and in the conflict it makes your ? go screwey

in my case when i activated the q9c, PV worked near immediately that 4hrs they quote is to cover there asses in case there is a delay for any reason they can fall back on it

media player is a ram hong yea, i use it regardless there really is no other solution for what i use it for, otherwise there is tcpmp which works well also

i have 2 apps in the background a dyndns app, and soti pocket controller for remote access purposes

Anyone else use Sprint Navigation?

I've noticed that it will occasionally lose its ability to offer voice prompts, and the only way to fix it seems to be to delete the preferences file and make the application reinitialize, which of course requires you to login again, set up your preferences, again, etc.

There's an app called Inbox Extender that adds a Delete All option to the Pocket Outlook menus. I can't point you to it right now, but it should be very easy to find with a little googling.
